‘Predators’ Writers Hired To Pen He-Man Flick ‘Masters Of The Universe’ Posted: Fans of He-Man have not been thrilled with the way things have gone in trying to make a new movie based on the powerful prince hero these past few years. Nevertheless, studios keep on trying, and Columbia Pictures has hired Mike Finch and Alex Litvak to write a shiny new script for Masters of the Universe. A new, re-envisioned take on the He-Man character using modern filmmaking technologies has been floating in purgatory for quite a while now. At one point we even had a script that was getting great feedback and being compared to The Lord of the Rings as well as Kung-Fu Panda co-director John Stevenson set to captain the movie, but alas, even that was killed, revived, and killed again within the gears of the Hollywood machine. Finch and Litvak are currently making a name for themselves as the writers behind Robert Rodriguez's Predators, and they have other noted projects on the horizon such as Medieval, which they both worked on, and the latest retelling of The Three Musketeers, which Litvak was part of. Kevin Pollak Vampire Web-Series ‘Vamped Out’ Debuts On Babelgum Posted: Popular actor/comedian Kevin Pollak has a new web-exclusive comedy series called Vamped Out, and it has debuted on the website Babelgum today. The series is about a documentary filmmaker as he follows around a real, live vampire who's trying to make it as an actor. Unfortunately, he can't even land the roles of characters who are themselves vampires. Pollak (Grumpy Old Men, The Usual Suspects) make his directorial debut on the series, and will also star as the filmmaker. Joining him is Jason Antoon (Contact, Minority Report) as the vampire subject, Samm Levine (Freaks & Geeks, Inglorious Basterds) and Seana Kofoed (Broadway's Proof, Men in Trees). Click on over to the other side to check out a trailer for the new web series Vamped Out, and be sure to head to Babelgum to check out the first episode now! This isn't the first time that Pollak has dabbled in the world of web-exclusive content. He previously hosted Kevin Pollak's Chat Show, his own mini talk show with lots of special guests. [...] |
‘Family Guy’ Creator Seth MacFarlane To Voice & Direct R-Rated CGI Bear In ‘Ted’ Posted: Seth MacFarlane has made quite a name for himself over the last decade. It all began in disastrous fashion when his new show Family Guy ended up canceled by Fox after a few seasons. Thankfully, it found an massive following on DVD and eventually was revived. After that, the show caught fire and MacFarlane ended up bringing a new show to the network called American Dad, and eventually signing an unbelievable $100 million deal. One thing that MacFarlane has not done over the years is direct a movie, but that's all about to change now. Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to Ted, a movie developed by Media Rights Capital and written by MacFarlane, Alec Sulkin, and Wellesley Wild. MacFarlane with make his feature directorial debut on the film, which is said to be a live-action/CGI hybrid about a man and his teddy bear, named Ted. While this sounds like it could be a movie based on the popular toy Teddy Ruxpin that would join the likes of Alvin and the Chipmunks, Scooby-Doo, The Smurfs, and other popular old cartoons and characters that have gotten this same treatment, Ted will be just a little bit different. Drumroll Please… Conan O’Brien’s New Show Will Be On TBS Posted: Well now -- no one saw this one coming. After all of that madness with NBC, The Tonight Show, and Jay Leno ended with Conan O'Brien without a job, we all knew he would eventually end up somewhere else. At the time, and equally as much since then, it appeared that the likely destination of O'Brien would be Fox, who had been trying to break into the late night talk show game for a long while now and had been courting the popular host. It would appear now that something did not go right, as TBS has sent out a press release reporting that they have officially acquired Conan for a new show that will begin in November. The show will air Monday through Thursday at 11PM and will be followed by George Lopez's Lopez Tonight, which will move back to the 12AM time slot. This sets up what many think to be a strong 1-2 combo for the TBS late night lineup. [...] |
WonderCon 2010: Tips On How To Become A Convention Booth Babe Posted: Usually I avoid interaction with the booth babes -- the attractive girls who hang out around a particular booth during a convention -- when I attend big shows like WonderCon for a variety of reasons. These girls are constantly having to stay on guard against socially reclusive fanboys who fall in love easily, which means their defenses are up (as they probably should be). Also, most of them aren't any more geeky than the average Jane -- meaning their knowledge of what's presented at the booth is limited and thus of little interest to someone looking for information (like say... a journalist). Not to mention that I am not Chris Gore, so there's never any swooning. But when a booth babe actually is a geek, it really tends to make a difference. This was the experience I had when checking out the True Blood booth at this year's WonderCon, which featured samples of Tru Blood, the beverage consumed by vampires in the hit HBO drama. They were being served by, you guessed it: Booth Babes, including Meghan who asked if I wanted to drink her blood, posed for a picture, and then thanked me for it [...] |
WonderCon 2010: Cosplay Photos Posted: So in case you missed the mention at the beginning of WonderCon 2010 coverage, blogger Great White Snark and myself had a friendly competition going to see who could produce the best of the best cosplay photos. Well GWS kicked my ass as he predicted. Mr. @TChed will capture cosplay photos at #WonderCon this weekend that will be far inferior to mine in both quality and quantity. Ok, I sort of knew this would happen since I'm not a photographer and was equipped with only my shitty iPhone 3G camera. (Plus, my assignment at the Con was to cover movie, TV, and comic book panels, which meant lots of waiting and sitting in large rooms, with very little Con floor time to patrol for good photo ops). But based on Snark's logic, I thought it could only propel his photo features further, which it did. Fans of attractive costumed women would do well to check out Great White Snark's WonderCon 2010 Costume Gallery [...] |

WonderCon 2010 Video: Kevin Smith Q&A – ‘Red State’ Details, The Govenator & More Posted: After a four-year hiatus, writer/director Kevin Smith made his triumphant return to WonderCon for his usual convention Q&A where anything goes. And for Smith, usually that does mean anything, including how to work for his View Askew production company, why convenience store services won't deliver to his California home, and a conversation he had with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger that may have resulted in the state's push to legalize marijuana. If there was any newsworthy bits to the session, it was in response to a fan question about Smith's upcoming film Red State, which has been described as very dark non traditional horror that only recently got greenlit by the studios. [READ: Kevin Smith's 'Red State' Finally Greenlighted...] Smith said Red State draws heavily from the 1975 horror film Race with the Devil, which is about two couples vacationing together in an R.V. from Texas to Colorado who are terrorized after they witness a murder during a Satanic ritual. We went ahead and embedded Part 1 of the Q&A below, which contains the full description of Smith talking about Red State for any who want to get the full effect. You should also check out parts 2-10 on the Geeks of Doom YouTube channel [...] |
