Silent 1913 Abraham Lincoln Film ‘When Lincoln Paid’ Discovered In New Hampshire Barn

Posted:

Being born and raised in New Hampshire, I can tell you in all honesty that very little happens here. Peace and quiet you shall find. Beautiful locations and scenery; four seasons and mountains, oceans, and cities all within a short drive are all here to be had, without a doubt. But when it comes to situations and events that grab the attention of the news...well, you probably took a wrong turn somewhere in Massachusetts.

That all being said, something very cool was discovered here a few years back, and it's now making headlines.

While cleaning out an old barn in Nelson, New Hampshire that was being prepared for demolition, a man named Peter Massie discovered an old silent film projector and seven reels of nitrate films hidden in the shadows of a corner of the barn. Among these old reels was a 30-minute 1913 short film titled When Lincoln Paid.

Continue on over for more and to see two short video clips from this lost film courtesy of Keene State College.

The movie -- directed by and starring Francis Ford -- tells the story of a dead Union soldier's mother who goes to Abraham Lincoln to ask that a Confederate soldier whom she had turned in be pardoned. [...]

Live ‘Star Trek’ Show Coming To Kennedy Space Center In June

Posted:

CBS Consumer Products and Mad Science have officially announced that a brand new interactive stage show based on the world of Star Trek will make its debut at the Kennedy Space Center this June.

The show will present the best young recruits of the Starfleet Academy on their first day as they try and learn about space travel, living and working in space, and the science and technologies they'll be using. The show will run 30 minutes and deliver a bunch of special effects, some interaction with the audience, and a lot of very cool space technologies we really use.

The show is meant to be a lot of fun, of course, but it will also teach audiences all about the science and technologies of space using the massively popular and familiar Star Trek as the perfect tool for a fun and interesting show.

Chief Operating Officer of the Space Center Visitor Complex, Bill Moore had this to say. [...]

Surprise! ‘Firefly’ Creator Joss Whedon To Direct ‘The Avengers’

Posted:

When it comes to fanboys, no one is better suited for any job you can think of than Joss Whedon. The writer/creator/producer of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse has developed an army of followers who will love him to the end of time.

Marvel Studios has apparently realized this faithful following and how much Whedon is just a geek and fanboy himself. According to Deadline Hollywood, the maker of epic comic book movies is in final negotiations with Whedon to direct The Avengers, which is the film that will bring all of these massive characters and storylines into one film.

This comes as a major shock to most people. While Whedon is a genius writer, he has only directed one feature in his career -- 2005's Serenity. He has, on the other hand, directed many television episodes, including 22 episodes of Buffy, 7 episodes of Angel, 3 episodes of Firefly, 3 episodes of Dollhouse, and even episodes of both The Office and Glee. Oh, and let us not forget Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. [...]

Fighting Off Zombies The Regency Way

Posted:

By Steve Hockensmith

Keeping the undead at bay has never been easier. Thanks to such visionaries as George Romero and the National Rifle Association, we all stand ready for any onslaught of flesh-craving ghouls. My basement bunker is packed wall to wall with automatic weapons, ammo, and grenades, and I'm sure yours is, too.

Bring it on, coffin jockeys! America's got your brains right here!

Once upon a time, however, fighting off zombies wasn't so simple. Today, with our common household Glocks, Uzis, and AK-47s, it's easy to forget the challenges our ancestors faced when fending off their slavering, shambling, brains-craving neighbors. Not only were such miracles of modern science as the tommy gun and the Claymore mine still but wistful dreams, the manners and morays of the day often made zombie-killing even more difficult than it had to be.

I recently found myself with reason to dig into the undead-dispatching ways of our forefathers when I was asked to write Dawn of the Dreadfuls, a prequel to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. As my book would be a lightly fictionalized account of the trials and tribulations of the Bennet family, a real-life clan of English zombie slayers active during the Regency era, I had to acquaint myself with the zombie-killing methodology of the early 19th century. What I found were two very different approaches. On the one hand was the pragmatic if hard-to-master discipline known as "the Deadly Arts" -- the Eastern-influenced fighting skills the young ladies of the Bennet family would be forced to learn in the course of my book [...]

The Trailer Park Boys are Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles. When the film begins, they are being released from jail after serving two-year sentences. However, when they return to their beloved Sunnyvale Trailer Park, the whole place is deserted. Most of Sunnyvale's tenants have moved to a new trailer park run by their archenemy Jim Lahey and his boyfriend Randy. Lahey wants to run a sewer line through Julian's property, so he keeps trying to bribe him into selling the land. Julian refuses because he has used his land to open his new business, the ironically named Success Auto Body Shop. Eventually, Julian creates a crazy, illegal scheme to save their home and the hijinks begin [...]
