BOOM! Studios Reveals New ‘Cthulhu’ Series Posted: "There is a great one sleeping that will hear… The Calling" Yesterday, BOOM! Studios released a teaser image for a series coming out July 2010 that simply contained the words "IA! IA! CTHULHU FHTAGN!" Today at the C2E2, the comic book publisher revealed the name of the upcoming series -- The Calling: Cthulhu Chronicles -- along with some details. The on-going HP Lovecraft-inspired comic, which will be written by Michael Alan Nelson (Fall Of Cthulhu, 28 Days Later) and Johanna Stokes (Death Valley, Savage Brothers), is a supernatural horror series with a modern spin on the Cthulhu mythos. Sean Phillips (Marvel Zombies) and Federico Piatti will provide the covers, while Christopher Possenti is doing the interior art. The Calling: Cthulhu Chronicles will join BOOM!'s previous Lovecraftian titles Cthulhu Tales and Fall Of Cthulhu. See below for the official synopsis, as well as the covers for The Calling: Cthulhu Chronicles #1 [...] |
C2E2 2010: Marvel Producing Four Anime Series Posted: Marvel is producing four different anime series based on original superhero properties, according to the company, who made the announcement at their C2E2 Animation panel this weekend. Each of the four series will have 12 episodes. Only two series were announced by name: one based on Iron Man and the other on X-Men/Wolverine, according to Marvel's Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada. Quesada also stated that the shows were being produced for a Japanese audience -- not just anime-style superheroes for America, and promises more details will be announced soon [...] |
C2E2 2010: Disney XD To Air New Animated ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ & ‘Avengers’ Series Posted: A new animated Ultimate Spider-Man series and the previously announced animated Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes series will air on the Disney XD television channel, according to Marvel, who made the announcement this weekend at the Marvel Animation Panel at the 2010 C2E2. "It's nice to be a part of Disney," said Marvel's Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada in reference to the first fruits of labor witnessed since his company was acquired by the Walt Disney Company in August 2009. [Read: Disney To Acquire Marvel Entertainment For $4 Billion] The two new animated shows are just the first in what will likely be many more projects set to debut on the Disney XD network, which according to Quesada, was just one of the major benefits of the Disney deal [...] |
C2E2 2010: More ‘Super Hero Squad Show’ & ‘Iron Man: Armored Adventures’ On The Way Posted: New episodes of Marvel's Super Hero Squad Show are coming to Cartoon Network, according to Marvel Comics Editor-In-Chief and show producer Joe Quesada, who made the announcement this weekend during the Marvel Animation Panel at the C2E2 2010. "We are feverishly working on season 2," Quesada said, adding also that "the lay of the land will change this season... it's going to go cosmic," which seems to pick up with the end of season 1 that saw the Silver Surfer volunteering to once again become a herald of the planet-eating Galactus. While there won't be an appearance by Spider-Man, Quesada did say fans would see plenty of new characters pop up, including Bucky, Hercules, Zeus, and Captain Marvel. [...] |
C2E2 2010: Two New ‘Captain America’ Series Coming Your Way Posted: Two new Captain America series were announced at yesterday's MONDO MARVEL panel at C2E2, and one brings up a Bad News/Good News situation. Bad news: Dale Eaglesham is no longer drawing Fantastic Four. Good news, he's moving over to a new series titled Steve Rogers: Super Soldier. The four-issue mini-series launches in July and is written by Captain America mastermind Ed Brubaker. Marvel editor Tom Brevoort told the audience that the story follows Steve Rogers in his post-Siege role, and also looks into the creation of the original super soldier serum that changed him into Captain America. It will be a high octane espionage adventure and will set up events that will affect the Marvel U for the foreseeable future. Covers for the series will be done by Carlos Pacheco [...] |
C2E2 2010: ‘Atomic Robo’ Writer Brings Back The Infinity Gauntlet Posted: At yesterday's MONDO MARVEL panel at the 2010 Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) saw a bunch of new titles announced, and one that has me excited is an out of continuity project by Atomic Robo writer Brian Clevinger. The new series is called The Avengers and the Infinity Gauntlet and was described as a complete reimagining of the original story, published in 1991. Apparently Clevinger was told to read the original series, then forget everything he just read and come up with his own Infinity Gauntlet story. In the new story, Thanos has the Infinity Guantlet and a group of Avengers has to get it back before everything dies. We'll have to read the series to find out exactly how it differs from the original story, but if it's anything like Clevinger's other works, it will have a lot of action and humor [...] |
