Brad Bird To Direct Tom Cruise In ‘Mission: Impossible IV’ Posted: 07 May 2010 08:00 PM PDT Brad Bird is best known for his work on animated feature films. He wrote and directed The Iron Giant, as well as both The Incredibles and Ratatouille for Pixar. Back in March of 2008, it was reported that Bird would make his live-action debut with 1906, a movie about a son trying to figure out who killed his father around the time that the devastating San Francisco earthquake of 1906 struck. While Bird is still working on 1906, it now looks like it will not be his first live-action title; after months of rumors and reports that the director was one of the names being pursued to direct Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible IV, Cruise himself has confirmed himself that Bird is indeed the man for the job. It looks like it came down to Bird and Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright for the gig, but with Wright currently working on Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, that situation didn't work out. Wright-constant Simon Pegg of course starred in Mission: Impossible III, allowing Cruise and producer J.J. Abrams to meet Edgar. [...] |
Posted: 07 May 2010 06:34 PM PDT Summer you say? Already? We thought it was like February still...no? Yes indeed, that joyous time of year when movie fans can put their brains away to hibernate for a few months (for the most part), and bask in the glory that is the Summer movie season. It's time to re-open the cinematic buffet and, as always, this year will deliver all of the bangs and booms, the violence and sex, and the shocks and laughs that you the moviegoers crave when the sun is at its hottest. This year is a little different than we've been used to -- almost like a year off in terms of true spectacle. There's more than your fair share of big names and sequels being released, but unlike last year and even next year, the summer won't be dominated by them. Instead, there's plenty of remakes, adaptations, and a mixture of all genres from the traditional action-packed firework festivals and comedies to less-traditional fare such as historical epics, science fiction horrors, cult classics-in-the-making, and psychological mind-benders. ‘Captain America’ Casts Toby Jones To Play The Villain Zola Posted: 07 May 2010 05:09 PM PDT Joe Johnston isn't settling for one villain in his upcoming Marvel Studios comic book adaptation, Captain America. The director has grabbed Toby Jones to play a second baddie, named Arnim Zola. Zola was an evil biochemist during World War II,who figured out a way to take everything about a person's mental signature and basically burn them into a cloned brain. His work was sometimes funded by Red Skull, who was the first villain cast in Captain America, to be played by Hugo Weaving (Lord of the Rings, The Matrix). Zola's desire to play God was put to use for none other than Adolf Hitler, whose brain patterns were imprinted onto what became Hate-Monger so that Hitler could live on in the event of his own death. He even burned himself into his own new body, which looks similar the body that Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles walked around in, only more robotic. [...] |
Posted: 07 May 2010 03:49 PM PDT Thor #609 Written by: Kieron Gillen Cover by: Mico Suayan Art by: Billy Tan Inks by: Mike Harris Colors by: Scott Cohn Marvel Comics Price: $2.99 Release Date: April 28, 2010 Thor #609 continues the story arc of what is happening with all the Asgardians during Siege. We get a follow up to most of our stories and a hint of what is coming for all of Asgard. Mysteriously, there is no Thor in this issue at all but this isn't surprising since he is still banished from Asgard. Kieron Gillen is doing a great job of juggling all of these storylines and I am extremely happy with this team even though I was very worried about the changeover back when it happened. I am happy to report that I am completely on board for everything that has happened and will happen in the Thor universe and that editorial has done a great job of letting the art transition and flow into Billy Tan's run. Billy Tan's art really stands out as a perfect fit to the Thor universe. This is very important to me as a Thor fan because there is a certain look that needs to be kept for the book [...] |
Comic Review: The Incredibles #8 Posted: 07 May 2010 11:56 AM PDT The Incredibles #8 Written by: Landry Walker Art/Cover by: Marcio Takara Colors by: Andrew Dalhouse BOOM! Studios Price: $2.99 Release Date: April 28, 2010 Well here we go again with a brand new story arc in the wonderful ongoing series based off a Pixar movie The Incredibles. If you haven't been reading the series up to this point don't get too uptight because you will be able to jump on with this issue. The fact that you can jump onto this story arc with each new arc is definitely a plus, especially since it is meant for the younger audience and it would be harder to expect them to go back and read everything that has happened up to this point. As always Landry Walker's writing is very fluid and easy to follow. Well at this point in the story we find out a couple things. There is a crime committed to set the mood for the book in who The Incredibles will be dealing with this arc. We also see that it is time for Violet to get a job because she needs to be responsible like the adult she says she is. The most exciting story point that I want to see more of is that Dash is now going to begin his training. Mr. Incredible makes it sound mysterious and dangerous, but hopefully we will see for ourselves [...] |
