As Expected, ‘Mass Effect’ Movie Is On The Way Posted: 25 May 2010 11:45 PM PDT Legendary Pictures has secured the rights to turn the incredible science fiction video game Mass Effect into a feature-length movie. The banner has previously delivered us great titles like 300, The Dark Knight, Watchmen, The Hangover, and Where the Wild Things Are...among many others. Avi Arad and Ari Arad will produce the film, and Mark Protosevich is currently in talks to pen the screenplay. Protosevich has previously written The Cell, Poseidon, I Am Legend, and helped to write Marvel Studios' Thor. Back in January, Casey Hudson, a project director on Mass Effect 2 Mass Effect 2 clearly stated that "Obviously we have a tremendous amount of interest from people in Hollywood to make a major motion picture about Mass Effect. The most important thing for us is, we don't just want to see a movie get made. We want to see a great movie get made, if it's going to get done at all." This was a great sign because of all the terrible movies that have been made based on games, this one could very well be the easiest to mess up, and mess up quickly. [...] |
Posted: 25 May 2010 06:04 PM PDT The Heroic Age: The Avengers #1 Writer: Brian Michael Bendis Penciler: John Romita Jr. Inker: Klaus Janson Colorist: Dean White Letterer: Cory Petit Price: $3.99 Marvel Comics Release date: May 19. 2010 After the last few years worth of Avengers stories where they are constantly on the run or fighting a lot of street level villains, Avengers #1 gets us back to the old school, "Let's take on a classic threat" story. The action gets moving quickly, and I'm glad to see that writer Brian Michael Bendis wastes no time setting up the team and getting straight into the story. Kang has come back with a line straight out of Back to The Future. It's your kids, mighty Avengers, you have to come to the future to stop your kids! It seems this issue is adapting the story from the Next Avengers animated movie from a few years ago. They have certainly taken the character designs for the kids from that movie and used them in this issue. It's an odd choice for me, and I don't know if seeing the movie will spoil the last page of this issue (I've never seen the Next Avengers movie), but this is the kind of story I think I would like to see out of an Avengers book [...] |
Movie Review: Shrek The Final Chapter Posted: 25 May 2010 01:05 PM PDT Shrek The Final Chapter Directed by Mike Mitchell Starring Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas Rated PG Release date: May 21, 2010 I was watching TV the other night with a friend of mine and a trailer for Shrek The Final Chapter came on. He's not what you call attentive, so when he looked at me and said, "There's a new Shrek movie coming out?" I wasn't surprised. But his response when I confirmed it was oddly insightful -- he simply asked, "Why?" It might be a good question since the series was wrapped up nicely with the last three movies, but if you think the answer is anything but money, you're crazy. So how do you advance a series that has nowhere else to go because the characters have everything they have wanted for three movies? Why, an alternate universe, of course. After a quick scene to catch everyone we see Shrek and friends just living life. Everything is going as it should, or at least how they wanted it. Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and Dragon are tending to their respective clans. Everything is good until Shrek starts feeling like every day is the same and remembers a time when his level of self-worth was much higher. People used to be scared of ogres. His life used to have purpose. Ah, the good old days [...] |
Comic Review: Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #1 Posted: 25 May 2010 11:07 AM PDT Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #1 Writer: Grant Morrison Penciler: Chris Sprouse Inker: Karl Story Colorist: Guy Major Letterer: Jared K. Fletcher Price: $3.99 DC Comics Release date: May 12, 2010 I suppose I should talk about this issue, since it is about to show how Bruce Wayne returns to our time following the events at the end of Final Crisis, but honestly, it's hard for me to get that excited about it. This is a fine issue, but I think I was expecting the story to get off to a stronger start, and this wasn't what I was expecting. As the cover shows, most of Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #1 is Batman as a caveman fighting other cavemen at the dawn of man. Bruce Wayne joins up with a bunch of cavemen and then fights a bunch of evil cavemen lead by the immortal caveman himself, Vandal Savage, gaining a caveman Robin (who somehow finds a domino mask in the bush apparently) before getting sent further into the future [...] |
Watch Now: Family Guy’s ‘Something, Something, Something Dark Side’ Posted: 25 May 2010 08:25 AM PDT Hulu has put up the Family Guy hour-long episode Something, Something, Something Dark Side, an animated parody of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back which sees the Griffin family and friends acting out the roles of the original film. The oversized episode is now streaming for free for residents of the United States and can be watched in its entirety here below. Something, Something, Something Dark Side is the sequel to Family Guy's Star Wars-themed movie Blue Harvest. It infuses humor into the much-loved Empire Strikes Back and pokes fun at it in all the right places by stating the absurdities of certain scenarios. (For instance, why do the rebels evacuate from Hoth right into the path of the Imperial fleet?) It's all in good fun, especially the opening crawl text (hilarious!) and has lots of other references to pop culture in it, as well as special guests, so watch it for free while you can! Something, Something, Something Dark Side is out on DVD and Blu-ray, both of which contain a bunch of bonus features [...] |
