Neil Patrick Harris Set For ‘A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas’ Posted: 24 Jun 2010 10:46 PM PDT In case you've yet to hear the news -- announced in July of 2008 -- yes a third movie in the Harold and Kumar saga is on the way and production on A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas is already underway as you read these words. In March, star John Cho claimed that the movie was not only coming but coming soon with hopes of filming by June. If you'll go ahead and check your calenders, you'll clearly see that we are in June, making Cho's comments rather refreshing considering how often quotes like that actually prove true. At that time, the big question mark was whether co-star Kal Penn would be able to return due to the fact that he had left his gig on House in order to take on the job of Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement for President Barack Obama. It was later revealed that Penn would be vacating his political post to take part in Harold & Kumar 3, leaving us only to wonder if the universally-popular Neil Patrick Harris would return or not. Posted: 24 Jun 2010 03:43 PM PDT Well here comes another romantic comedy, which seems to be the style nowadays. That's right Katherine Heigl, who plays Jen, and Ashton Kutcher, who plays Spencer, bring you Killers. While this film did not necessarily bring a whole lot of new things to the genre, if you enjoy this type of movie, you will probably enjoy this as well. While Killers was a by-the-numbers kind of movie, it was still a pretty fun popcorn flick, especially with the extremely beautiful Heigl involved. I definitely feel that the movie had a decent supporting cast to add to the two big names as well. When you add in Tom Selleck and Catherine O'Hara as the Kornfelt's, Jen's parents, this definitely makes the movie a lot more charming. Throughout the movie you get a lot of fun action and some pretty decent laughs, but where the movie doesn't come all the way together is in the execution of both of these genres to their full potential. The action scenes are not as spectacular as they could be and the comedy is definitely not as funny as it could be. The script just doesn't seem to have been fully realized, which is a shame considering how charming the cast is. Anyways enough of the chit chat, let's jump right into some SPOILER TALK! The following are my thoughts, sprinkled with spoilers and you should all put in your thoughts about the movie by stopping by the comment section [...] |
Posted: 24 Jun 2010 11:32 AM PDT Sweet Tooth #10 Written and Drawn by: Jeff Lemire Colors by: Jose Villarubia Letters by: Pat Brosseau Vertigo Comics Price: $2.99 Release Date: June 2, 2010 I am continually drawn into Jeff Lemire's genius mysteries for tons of reasons. One of those reasons is compelling characters as seen in previous issues of Sweet Tooth with Jeopard and also his series Essex County. Another big reason is the aforementioned mystery best seen in this issue, Sweet Tooth #10, and also his series The Nobody that gives me something rarely attempted in comics, a serious science fiction story. I have become captivated with all aspects of the story especially the mystery of Gus and this "infection." How can you not feel for Jeopard and Gus at this point as well? I am rooting for both characters as well as hating these scientists for their cruelty. The problem with hating them though is not knowing how they got to where they are now, especially if they have to continuously watch people die and all they really want, from what we can see, is to cure this infection [...] |
‘A Game of Thrones’ vs. ‘The Walking Dead’: TV’s Latest One-Two Genre Punch Posted: 24 Jun 2010 08:04 AM PDT Geek shows have gotten more recognition in recent years than they ever did in the past. Once upon a time the height of genre television was the Star Trek franchise, which, while always intelligent and ambitious, was still shunted by society into that niche of fandom reserved for the obsessive and the dateless. Thankfully, with the success of shows like Lost, Battlestar Galactica, and True Blood (and we'll just ignore the unjust deaths of shows like Firefly, Dollhouse, and The Sarah Connor Chronicles for the moment), genre television seems to have entered into a new golden age, much like comic book movies did ten years ago. Two of the most recent -- and, it could be argued, most anticipated -- such shows share a unique mission statement, despite their vastly differing subject matter. Both are adaptations of decidedly adult material, from mediums often given the short shrift in live-action television. Both will attempt to subvert genres that come heavily burdened with the preconceived notions of the common audience. And both feature a surprising pedigree of creators who are dedicated to their success. Those two upcoming shows are AMC's The Walking Dead and HBO's A Game of Thrones [...] |
