Grant Morrison’s ‘Joe the Barbarian’ Comic To Get Big-Screen Adaptation Posted: 26 Jul 2010 09:57 PM PDT The film rights for Grant Morrison and Shawn Murphy's Joe The Barbarian comic book have been picked up by Thunder Road Pictures, according to Morrison, who broke the news today exclusively to Robot6. Thunder Road Picture is the studio that put out the 2010 Clash of the Titans remake. Joe the Barbarian, which is published by DC/Vertigo Comics, is a fantasy set in the mind of a boy who is having some very real world problems, and a film adaptation is going to need an intelligent use of subtlety to capture the brilliant nuance of this fantastic series. I almost cannot image the majority of Joe the Barbarian to be adaptable, as the fantasy plays almost like a kid's movie, while the grounded-in-reality segments can be terribly depressing. And the concept is even harder to buy into since Morrison is not writing the screenplay himself [...] |
First Image From Jon Favreau’s ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ Posted: 26 Jul 2010 07:04 PM PDT The first official image of Daniel Craig in the Jon Favreau-directed Cowboys & Aliens has been released. Check it out here at right. I got to see some early footage from the movie over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, where Craig and Favreau were in attendance to show off the film. [Read SDCC 2010: Jon Favreau's 'Cowboys & Aliens' Footage Description.] The image shows Craig's character with one arm outstretched. Over his hand and wrist is a mechanism which is lit up. This looks like the end of the footage we saw at SDCC where Craig's character uses that mechanism to shoot down a spaceship [...] |
Darren Aronofsky’s ‘RoboCop’ Remake Gets Killed Off Posted: 26 Jul 2010 06:06 PM PDT Very few were excited by the idea of the brutal 1987 sci-fi classic RoboCop getting a remake already. Despite the distaste for such a thing, knowledge that Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler director Darren Aronofsky would be helming the movie had us all very much intrigued by what we might see. None of that matters anymore with word that the RoboCop remake is officially dead -- another victim of MGM's dire business situation. In an in-depth report on the financial disaster going on at MGM, the Financial Times touched on the project and how Aronofsky had already cut ties with it. Then at Comic-Con this weekend, Moviehole was able to grab someone from MGM and see where things currently stood. The answer says it all: "Gone. Kaput. Canceled. It was one of the first casualties. [Darren] has lost interest anyway, I believe. Think we're all just going to have to be happy with the three RoboCop movies that are out there." [...] |
The Easter Egg In Hans Zimmer’s ‘Inception’ Score Posted: 26 Jul 2010 10:52 AM PDT After a recent screening of Inception, it occurred to YouTuber camiam321 that there may be some method to the madness of the dark, slow, bass-heavy theme that dominates Hans Zimmer's score. He took Edith Piaf's "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" (which is used as a recurring motif in the film's heist sequence), and slowed it down in Adobe Soundbooth by 300%. The result was a near exact match to the Zimmer theme. Watch the video here below and listen to the comparison. Thematically, this ties in perfectly with the film's plot device in which (MINOR SPOILERS) a dream can feel exponentially longer than the time it takes to dream it, and a dream within a dream can feel exponentially longer than the dream level above it, in other words, hours within a dream can take place over the course of 20 minutes in real life [...] |
Marvel Anime Coming To G4 In 2011 Posted: 26 Jul 2010 10:25 AM PDT Marvel fans got many reasons to smile at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con. Among those reasons was the announcement that G4TV will be airing four new Marvel anime series' produced by Madhouse Studios. Originally announced at last year's convention, we found out from Jeph Loeb, Marvel's new executive vice president-head of television, that each series will be 12 episodes and were all written by Warren Ellis. Get ready for Iron Man, X-Men, Wolverine, and Blade sometime in 2011. The Iron Man series will debut in Japan on Oct. 1. No official dates were given for the U.S. broadcasts at this point. G4′s teaser is below, and if you're interested, CBR posted the original trailers for Iron Man and Wolverine from last year [...] |
Watch Now: ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Comic-Con Teaser Posted: 26 Jul 2010 08:24 AM PDT During the chaos that was San Diego Comic-Con 2010 Walt Disney Pictures held a little panel. Within this panel, a tiny little movie called Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was touched on. Actual footage from the movie wasn't shown, but a special guest by the name of Captain Jack Sparrow did make a surprise video appearance to the roar of the crowd. Usually stuff like this doesn't make its way to the eyes of everyone who can't be at Comic-Con, but this particular footage has shown up online. We can't offer any promises to how long it will be available for your viewing pleasure, but you can check it out by clicking over to the other side now! The video is just Sparrow (Johnny Depp) relaxing outdoors with a bottle of rum and chatting about the upcoming movie to fans. There's no movie footage or anything, but for fans of the movies who are excited about this new chapter, it's exciting enough to see [...] |
