James Newton Howard To Replace Danny Elfman As ‘Green Hornet’ Composer Posted: 03 Aug 2010 04:58 AM PDT For a while now, Danny Elfman has been attached to compose the musical score for Michel Gondry's upcoming crime fighting action-comedy The Green Hornet, but it looks like a last-minute change is unfolding. The Playlist is reporting that they're sources are saying that Elfman is now out due to simply having too many other projects on his plate. They're also hearing that the man currently in talks to replace him is James Newton Howard, who also happens to be handling the score for Green Lantern as well. Fancy that. Newton Howard has been around for decades, creating the scores for movies like Pretty Woman, Glengarry Glen Ross, and The Fugitive. Dating back to 1985, he has accumulated 121 Composer credits for movies of all genres. For many (myself included) it was his work on most of M. Night Shyamalan's earlier films where he really made his presence known, and even you hate The Village it's hard not to love Newton Howard's score. Other memorable more recent works include Collateral, Peter Jackson's King Kong, and The Dark Knight along with Hans Zimmer. [...] |
Krona To Appear In ‘Green Lantern’ Movie Posted: 02 Aug 2010 08:46 PM PDT We learned at the Green Lantern panel at the San Diego Comic-Con last month that every Green Lantern Corps member would be shown on the planet Oa in Green Lantern. But what Oan citizens will show up in the upcoming Warners Bros big-screen adaptation? According to Comic Book Movie, the character of Krona will make an appearance in Green Lantern, which stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role. Krona will be involved in a scene that features another character from Green Lantern lore named Parallax (the panel also yielded the news that Parallax would be in the film). The scene is reportedly Earth-based, but what Krona's involvement with Parallax is is unknown at this time [...] |
Matthew Vaughn Cuts 12 Pages Of ‘X-Men: First Class’ After Seeing ‘Inception’ Posted: 02 Aug 2010 07:23 PM PDT The LA Times had the chance to speak to Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn recently, who shared an interesting story about a recent movie-going experience. Vaughn has been working away on his next film -- an adaptation of the Marvel comic book series X-Men: First Class -- and decided to go out and take a peek at Christopher Nolan's Inception. What seemed like a normal night at the movies actually turned into a tricky situation; Vaughn realized that some aspects of his movie were going to be very similar to things he saw in Inception. Most would probably just ignore this, but Vaughn is clearly determined to make something unique and thus, decided to remove these parts of his movie. I saw 'Inception,' which I loved. But my heart sank when I saw that a few of the ideas we had were up [on the screen]. So it's either leave it in and look as if you're copying or change things. We completely ripped out about 12 pages of the script and the storyboards. [...] |
Geek Peek: First Glimpse At Nick Frost & Simon Pegg’s Alien Friend ‘Paul’ Posted: 02 Aug 2010 03:54 PM PDT There's been a heavy dose of excitement behind Greg Mottola's geek-friendly road trip comedy Paul for a long while. The movie re-pairs one of the best acting teams in movies today, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, as a couple of quintessential fanboys named Clive and Graeme who meet an incredible acquaintance after attending the yearly San Diego Comic Con gathering (which just recently ended last weekend; read all of our coverage here!). After their visit to Comic Con, the British duo also decide to see some other sights while in the area. One of their stops includes the mysterious Area 51, where they happen to bump into an extraterrestrial named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen). The thing with Paul is that he isn't like most aliens we've seen in movies and TV shows over the years, and actually has quite the vulgar tongue (or whatever anatomy aliens possess). One thing those who have been so excited for was what Paul the alien would actually look like, and Bleeding Cool has your first glimpse. Click on over to the other side to check him out for yourself! ‘Sin City’ Director Robert Rodriguez In Negotiations To Take On ‘Deadpool’ Posted: 02 Aug 2010 02:31 PM PDT While nothing is official here yet, many whispers of Predators producer and Sin City director Robert Rodriguez being a potential name to helm the Marvel Studios film adaptation Deadpool have been floating through the air. These whispers have been denied by all involved, but now it appears there's some truth behind them after all. According to the LA Times' 24 Frames blog, Rodriguez is in fact in some form of negotiations with 20th Century Fox to take the wheel on Deadpool. The movie is expected to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds returning to his role of the Merc with the Mouth, an ultra-sarcastic mercenary named Wade Wilson who while dying from cancer was offered a cure within the Weapon X program. While there, the procedures scarred him greatly and were considered a failure, leaving him confined to an area for failed experiments. Other prisoners of the facility had a betting ring for who would die next, and Wilson was the top bet. This ring was called the dead pool, and when Wilson suddenly healed up and escaped, he adopted the name. [...] |
Ashley Wood’s ‘Lore’ Getting Big Screen Adaptation Posted: 02 Aug 2010 08:37 AM PDT Comic-Con International has been very kind to Ashley Wood. Last year, Wood and wife/collaborator T.P. Louise sold the film rights for their book World War Robot to Jerry Bruckheimer. Keeping the Comic-Con streak alive, Wood has now optioned another property for a big-screen adaptation, IDW's Lore. The producers are trying to launch an action-adventure franchise along the lines of the Men in Black series, with a focus on mythological creatures. Originally published in 2003 as a five-issue miniseries, the story focuses on a young man who reluctantly becomes a member of an elite secret order charged with protecting humanity from the beasts of folklore who invade our world [...] |
