Tim Burton To Reunite With ‘Ed Wood’ Writers For ‘The Addams Family’ Posted: 19 Aug 2010 09:05 PM PDT Back in March we found out that Tim Burton would be part of a new stop-motion movie based on Charles Addams' classic work, The Addams Family, which ran in The New Yorker before becoming a TV series and pair of film adaptations. According to Deadline (who first broke the original news), Burton is still attached to produce the movie for Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures, and that he's reaching out to some old friends for help. It's been revealed that his Ed Wood screenwriters, Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, have been hired to write the Addams Family script. It was also added that Burton would be producing another project of the writing duo's called Big Eyes, which is based on artist Margaret Keane's works featuring large-eyed children, which were very popular in the '60s, and her struggle to gain credit for the artwork. This is a movie that Karaszewski and Alexander have set up with hopes of directing themselves. [...] |

Comic Review: Boondock Saints: In Nomine Patris Posted: 19 Aug 2010 03:58 PM PDT Boondock Saints: In Nomine Patris 1 & 2 Written by Troy Duffy & JB Love Art by Guus Floor Cover by Chris Brunner 12-Gauge/Innfusion Price: $3.99 each Release Date: May 26 & July 14, 2010 The second in the new line of Boondock Saints comics, In Nomine Patris, is the beginning of the secret history of Il Duce. This to me is a great way to kick off a serious stint in the comic line for the saints. It introduces all the characters and a lot about the history of their "business" without prior knowledge needed. This series does a great job in treating it like every issue can be someone's first issue. Basically in both issues we learn how Il Duce becomes a vigilante and why he kept it up throughout his entire life. We also learn how he got his vest and we learn it all through Connor and Murphy's eyes. The story is great and very interesting. I really enjoyed reading it. There are a few storytelling issues here and there, but it is more of a layout issue than a script issue. It is very hard to tell where we are in the story because of the jumps between past, present, and future. Something that would help is different times of day for each setting so there would be a more distinct coloring for each one. But that is just a minor issue which is great for Troy Duffy's second and third comic [...] |
Seth Rogen To Voice Ghost In New DreamWorks Animated Flick ‘Boo U.’ Posted: 19 Aug 2010 02:25 PM PDT Seth Rogen is no stranger to voice roles in animated movies and TV shows. The typically comedic actor's distinct vocal talents can be heard in movies like Monsters vs. Aliens, Horton Hears A Who!, Kung Fu Panda, Shrek the Third, The Spiderwick Chronicles, and TV shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy, and American Dad. A couple of his previous works are through DreamWorks Animation, and the studio seems to have a thing for Rogen. It's been announced that the actor will now be voicing the lead role in an upcoming DreamWorks production, Boo U. Rogen will play a ghost who isn't very good at being spooky, and as is such, he must return to Boo University (it's assumed; maybe Boo U. is just a nickname and not the literal name), a school to help and train ghosts to be the best spooks they can be. Boo U. will be directed by Tony Leondis, whose only other computer animated directorial effort was 2008's Igor. [...] |
Comic Review: Madam Samurai, Vol. 1 Posted: 19 Aug 2010 11:25 AM PDT Madam Samurai, Vol. 1 Written by Gary Young Art & Cover by David Hitchcock Edited by Shane Chebsey Scar Comics Price: $12.99 Release Date: June 11, 2010 Madam Samurai is the interesting story of an unnamed, mute girl who learns the ways of the samurai from a ronin, or masterless samurai. The story begins in Victorian-era London, but then jumps back to 19thcentury Japan, where we see a young boy named Kazuo watch his mother commit a ritualistic suicide to honor the memory of her dead husband. Kazuo is taken in by another samurai and quickly becomes rivals with his biological son, Toshiro. Their sibling rivalry sets in motion the events that lead to the birth of Madam Samurai. The writing in Madam Samurai is very captivating and cinematic. Gary Young's screenwriting background was very beneficial to the pacing of the story. Despite several flashbacks, the story does not get bogged down or obstructed by this device. In fact, every scene in the story was essential, which is a testament to the editing work of Shane Chebsey. The young Madam Samurai is an interesting protagonist, and we are able to watch her transformation from mute peasant girl to samurai's pupil to would-be defender of the less fortunate in old London [...] |
Geeks of Doom Interviews: Brian Clevinger Posted: 19 Aug 2010 06:58 AM PDT Brian Clevenger may be one of our favorite writers here at Geeks of Doom. If you're not reading his series, Atomic Robo, you really need to check it out, as it's one of the best series out there today. Now, he has parlayed his success with that book into a gig writing a reimagining of the classic Infinity Gauntlet storyline. Brian sat down to answer some questions about his new job, about Robo's origins, and also about his webcomics. Henchman 21: First I just want to say thanks for doing this. I think there are a lot of fans of Atomic Robo who visit our site, and I think they should get a kick out of it. I know a lot of our staff, myself included are big fans of the series. My first question is about the recently announced Avengers and the Infinity Gauntlet. What can you tell us about the project and how did you get involved with it? [...] |
