Comedian Robert Schimmel Dies At The Age Of 60 After Car Accident

Posted: 04 Sep 2010 12:57 AM PDT

Some sad news in the world of comedy tonight. The hilarious and popular Robert Schimmel died tonight at the age of 60.

On August 26, Schimmel was in a serious car accident in Arizona. His 19-year-old daughter was driving the vehicle, with Schimmel in the passenger seat and his 11-year-old son in the back seat. His daughter quickly swerved to avoid a collision and the vehicle ended up rolling over on the side of the freeway.

His daughter was later listed in stable condition and Schimmel's son was released from the hospital unharmed. Schimmel, sadly, was listed in "very serious" condition at first, and ultimately died as a result of his injuries earlier tonight.

Word of his death seemed to break via Twitter, as most news seems to do before actual outlets can report it these days. A slew of saddened fans offered their respects well before the passing was confirmed, including Jimmy Kimmell, who praised Schimmel as one of "the funniest and nicest guys in comedy." [...]

Dragon*Con 2010: ‘True Blood’ Panel Feat. Sam Trammell, Nelsan Ellis and Kristin Bauer

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 06:37 PM PDT

Some of the cast of True Blood made their way to Dragon*Con 2010 to chat about their characters on the show and a little bit about the season finale.

"There'll be blood," said Nelsan Ellis who plays Lafayette jokingly on the panel that also featured Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte) and Kristin Bauer (Pam). "You will definitely find something out about my dude [Jesus]."

Ellis spoke about how he wasn't crazy about the idea of Lafayette having a serious love interest, but said he changed his mind upon seeing the episodes because it showed whole new "tender" dimension to the character.

In reference to the finale, Trammell mentioned something about "death," but quickly retracted the statement and changed the topic to the subject of nudity on set. He couldn't recall whether his character is naked in the season 3 finale episode and as anyone who watches the show knows, it tends to happen often [...]

New Movies This Week: Which Will You Go See? [September 3, 2010]

Machete movie poster

I can think of no better way to commemorate Labor Day weekend then by seeing a movie about an American on vacation in Italy being contracted to do someone's dirty work; a Mexican on a mission in Arizona being contracted to do someone's dirty work; or a long distance romantic comedy... about a couple being contracted to do someone's dirty work (please let it be about that).

Well, I have no doubt what I'm going to be seeing this weekend. Here's a hint: Tom Savini is in it. What about you?

The three big movies of the week are: The American, Going the Distance, and Machete [...]

Preview For ‘Fallout: New Vegas’ Graphic Novel Now On iTunes

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 04:11 PM PDT

Back in May, Bethesda Softworks unveiled the amazing Collector's Edition they would be putting out for Fallout: New Vegas (Read: Behold: Bethesda To Release Awesome 'Fallout: New Vegas' Collector's Edition), and while the special package will run a little pricey (feel free to buy it for me...please?), those who can afford it will find themselves in possession of something all Fallout fanatics will want.

One of the items included in the Collector's Edition is a special graphic novel titled Fallout: New Vegas - All Roads, which is created by the game's senior designer, Chris Avellone, along with Dark Horse Comics to add a little more story to the mix. The graphic novel introduces us to the town of New Vegas, one of the few places left in the world that is still operational, and the many groups battling to the death in hopes of ruling the post-apocalyptic kingdom.

To help convince people the Collector's Edition with graphic novel is worth picking up, a preview has been released on iTunes, and as an app on your iPhone or iPad. [...]

‘Grindhouse’ Born ‘Hobo With A Shotgun’ Gets A Messy NSFW Trailer

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 01:54 PM PDT

You all remember Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's little co-venture, the old school exploitation-style double-feature, Grindhouse, correct? Some loved it, some hated it, and we all moved on. The thing about it that has since evolved, however, are the faux trailers created by famous filmmakers to surround the production and help give it that authentic b-movie bonanza vibe.

What you may NOT know, is that some other trailers were made for Grindhouse as well, and one of them was called Hobo With A Shotgun. The trailer was created by Jason Eisener and won a contest at the South by Southwest film festival for best trailer, and while it wasn't included in every print of Grindhouse, it did run in theaters up in Canada (where the director is from).

Put down what you're doing, grab some soap for after, and click on over to check out this dirty little treat and the original fake trailer immediately. Be WARNED: these are very NSFW trailers and contains a whole lot of graphic content that would surely send your nearest soccer mom into a vicious frenzy. [...]

First Poster For Paul W.S. Anderson’s ‘The Three Musketeers’ Is Here

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 12:13 PM PDT

The first poster for Resident Evil and Death Race director Paul W.S. Anderson's The Three Musketeers has been released online by Summit Entertainment.

As you'll be able to tell, the poster isn't the most eventful you'll ever see. Then again, the first poster released rarely is all that exciting. Even so, those eager to see how the movie turns out will be happy to take a little peek at the first official release.

There is a lot of concern for the movie, whether it be skepticism toward Anderson's abilities or the dreaded 3D it will be bathed in, but it's not all gloomy. As we've said, the movie presents a great cast, and they're sure to try and help it give it a good run. That paired with the fact that some of Anderson's films, though not heading toward an Oscar win anytime soon, can be considered a lot of fun gives us just a little bit of hope.

Be sure to head below to check out the new poster now. [...]

Comic Review: Boondock Saints: The Lost Gig

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 11:10 AM PDT

Boondock Saints: The Lost Gig
Written by Troy Duffy & JB Love
Pencils and Cover by Toby Cypress
12-Gauge/Innfusion
Release Date: April 16, 2010

I would like to start off by saying I am a huge Boondock Saints fan. I love both movies and own both of them on Blu-Ray. I was extremely excited by the idea of more Saints in comic form, especially when I found out the first story was revolving around one of my favorite characters, Rocco.

The Lost Gig is basically set as an extra mission that Rocco and the Saints go on somewhere in the time frame of the first movie. It would actually fit in right after the saints have the rope incident but right before they go to the porn place. It definitely fits in with the characterization of the first film, especially since Troy Duffy is co-writing.

The book itself was a lot of fun but it works in at a measly ten pages. So if you are looking for a big story you are getting the wrong book. The story, even though short, is a lot of fun. [...]

DVD Review: Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Season 1 (Part 1)

Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Season 1, Part 1 DVD

Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Season 1 (Part 1)
DVD
Starring: Diedrich Bader, John DiMaggio, Will Friedle, James Arnold Taylor
Warner Home Video
Released date: August 17, 2010

Batman: The Brave and the Bold is one of my favorite animated TV shows of the past few years, so for me, it's really exciting that Warner Home Video and DC Comics have released the first part to the first season on DVD on a two-disc set. Season One of Batman: The Brave and The Bold took a refreshing look at The Caped Crusader for kids and fans alike by teaming him up with a cast array of DC Comics characters including The Red Tornado, Green Arrow, The Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes), Robin, Aquaman, and many others.

The creators of the show took the recent dark tone of the of the 1990s and 2000s and turned it on its head by brightening the character up through animation style, score, and the brilliant voice acting on the series from veterans Diedrich Bader as Batman, John DiMaggio as Aquaman, and James Arnold Taylor as Green Arrow. The show is based in the silver age of comics, and centers around the concept introduced in The Brave and the Bold comic series from DC Comics that featured team-ups from B, C, and D list heroes teaming with A list heroes, so in this show, you see a lot of characters that you wouldn't imagine would ever get the animated series treatment including The Golden Age Flash, Jay Garrick […]
