Bruce Campbell Wants Sequel To ‘My Name Is Bruce’ To Be ‘The Expendables’ Of Horror Posted: 08 Sep 2010 05:23 AM PDT In a recent chit-chat, cult superstar Bruce Campbell touched briefly on a sequel to his movie, My Name is Bruce, which told the story of a small town that mistakes Campbell for his popular Evil Dead trilogy character, Ash, and asks him to help save their town from the evil monsters that terrorize them. Most of the conversation was about his time working on the Evil Dead movies and the many stories that came from his experiences with director Sam Raimi, as well as whether the long-rumored new sequel would ever get made. As for that, Campbell said they'd all like to make another Evil Dead but no one has the time right now. He joked that Raimi puts out fake statements from time to time to get people excited, but with his blockbuster movie projects piling up and Campbell's TV show, Burn Notice, it just isn't happening soon. When the topic switched to the My Name is Bruce sequel, which will be called Bruce vs. Frankenstein, Campbell made things interesting with an idea he has. His hope is to not only make the sequel, but to make it in the same vein as The Expendables with as many horror stars as humanly possible. [...] |
Dragon*Con 2010: Avengers Cosplay Photo Gallery Posted: 07 Sep 2010 07:43 PM PDT Ever since Marvel Entertainment confirmed that Joss Whedon had been chosen to direct their big budget Avengers film, the fan community has vocalized their support or distaste of the decision. The point being? There is a renewed interest in all things Avengers. For proof, one need only look to the attendees of Dragon*Con 2010, who showed off a plethora of well crafted costumes this year that featured Avengers both new and old. We've attempted to capture a handful of what we saw while covering the event this past weekend in the photo gallery embedded below. It's also worth noting that Geeks of Doom photographer Derek Deweese let his fanboyism run wild in some of these photos by attempting to mirror popular comic book covers. (Neither of us remember the issue of The Ultimates where Captain America points to the "A" on his helmet. If you know the cover we're talking about then by all means educate us in the Comments section below.) [...] |

Book Review: Night Of The Living Trekkies Posted: 07 Sep 2010 03:37 PM PDT Night Of The Living Trekkies Paperback By Kevin David Anderson and Sam Stall Quirk Books Release date: September 1, 2010 Quirk Books has already proved successful with their literary monster mash-ups like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, and it looks like they've scored another hit with Night Of The Living Trekkies, a brand new tale based on two popular genres, zombies and scifi. Written by Kevin David Anderson and Sam Stall, Night Of The Living Trekkies takes place during GulfCon, an annual Star Trek convention in Houston, Texas hosted at the Botany Bay [wink wink] Hotel and Conference Center. This is not your simple Con -- at this event, Trekkies and Trekkers (yes, there's a difference and this story explains what it is) go out of their way to dress as the most obscure characters from the Star Trek franchise. The level of intensity in their planning and creating of their costumes seems somewhat like that of the attendees of Dragon*Con in Atlanta, a cosplay-centered Con that takes place each year on Labor Day weekend, which was an appropriate time to release Night Of The Living Trekkies [...] |

Costumed Men of Dragon*Con 2010 Posted: 07 Sep 2010 11:16 AM PDT In terms of cosplay at fan conventions, Dragon*Con is by far the cream of the crop -- so much so that I barely pay attention to those who dress up at San Diego Comic-Con and San Francisco's WonderCon. For instance, the guy decked out as Kratos from God of War stood a good 6 1/2 feet tall and painted every inch of his exposed skin. Unfortunately for those who prefer the masculine of the sexes, Kratos is not the norm among men. Most male geeks who dress up opt for costumes that don't celebrate their gender in the same way that their female counterparts do. Still, Geeks of Doom photographer Derek Deweese staked out the entire convention area to find some of the best at this year's event. Check out the thumbnails below for 20 Men of Dragon*Con. Also, check out our earlier posts featuring this year's Cosplay Babes of Dragon*Con: Part 1 & Part 2 [...] |
Feast Your Eyes On These Brilliant ‘BioShock Infinite’ Game Informer Covers Posted: 07 Sep 2010 10:15 AM PDT It hasn't been too long since the surprise teaser trailer for BioShock Infinite leaped onto the web and made us fans all very, very excited for more (Read: MUST WATCH! 'BioShock 3′ Announced With 'BioShock Infinite' Trailer). The prequel is set decades before our time spent in the underwater city of Rapture, in the year 1912. It tells the story of a Pinkerton agent sent to a floating city called Columbia to find a girl who's been held captive there since she was a child. Though we know very little about the new game thus far, more details are rapidly approaching. In the fall issue of Game Informer magazine, you can expect to read all about BioShock Infinite, which should be enough to pick up a copy. But if that's not enough for some reason, the issue will feature three specially created covers dedicated to the game. The special covers were crafted to mimic the style of magazines of the time, and that true BioShock vibe. To put it quite frankly, these covers are outstanding and not to be missed. You can check them out by heading over to the other side now! [...] |
Mark Millar’s ‘Superior’ Auction Posted: 07 Sep 2010 07:38 AM PDT Mark Millar, creator of many of the most talked about comic books of recent memory including Kick-Ass, Nemesis, Old Man Logan, and Civil War, has posted an interesting auction on Ebay for his next creation, Superior. In this auction, Millar has left it to fans and do-gooders alike to name the title character's secret identity, all in the name of charity. In the past, Millar has held auctions for roles in Kick-Ass and Nemesis on behalf of special needs units in a school where his brother, Dr. Bobby Millar, has tirelessly raised money for many handicapped children, and the Superior auction is no exception. Millar describes his motivations [...] |
