Movie Review: The Social Network

The Social Network movie poster The Social Network
Directed by David Fincher
Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Armie Hammer, Justin Timberlake, Joseph Mazzello
Release date: September 24, 2010

"I need to do something substantial in order to get the attention of the clubs because they are exclusive and lead to a better life."

This quote comes from Harvard sophomore Mark Zuckerberg, a founder of Facebook, while discussing to his soon to be ex-girlfriend what he hopes to get out of the Harvard experience. The movie shows the pursuit and systematic exercise of belonging. No matter how we get the observation from someone we are dying to impress or mock, just as long as we get it. The infectious poison that urges man to reign over all has been rapidly diffused throughout David Fincher's new film The Social Network. The movie is about the consequences of moral transgressions and the physical, social, and moral decay. The decay pervades our sordid society; a society that feasts on fame, glory and fortune.

Fincher's films tend to see America as being corrupt, beyond excessive, and pretty much beyond any help [...]

Get 200 Free Microsoft Points

Microsoft is really trying to push the Bing search engine, and you my friends, can take advantage of it.

Currently Microsoft is giving away 250 Bing rewards points. I myself will never use Bing enough to build up points to buy anything cool. However, you can buy 100 Microsoft Points with 100 Bing rewards points. Thus netting yourself a cool 200 Microsoft Points that you can use either in the Xbox Live Marketplace or Zune Marketplace. I like free stuff.

A couple caveats. One, you have to download and install the Bing toolbar. The other is that supposedly it only works with Internet Explorer 7 or higher; however, I just used Firefox and got my free points just fine. I think I'll buy a nice warm jacket for my avatar, winter is right around the corner after all [...]

ScreenTribe Looks To Revolutionize TV and Movies As A Social Platform

ScreenTribe

I'm a big fan of apps that let you share what you're watching with all your social networks. Miso and GetGlue are the two that I use on a regular basis to let all my Twitter followers know when I'm watching the latest episode of Mad Men or the newest release at my local theater. Now, a newcomer has entered my social platforming orbit.

The service is called ScreenTribe and while it's similar to the previous apps I mentioned, it also sets itself apart from the crowd in many ways.

Aside from allowing you to let everyone know what you're watching, ScreenTribe also lets you compete with other users and earn physical prizes in the process. "Tuning in" to content earns players points that can be redeemed for real life rewards like gift cards, movie tickets, and non-profit charity donations. Users are also rewarded with badges when they complete special tasks like tuning in for the first time or watching a certain number of movies from one era [...]

Watch Now: ‘All Star Superman’ Animated Trailer

All Star Superman

MTV's Splash Page has brought unto the world a gift from DC Entertainment's animated department, the trailer for the adaptation to Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's All Star Superman.

Watch it here below!

As previously reported, longtime DCAU writer Dwayne McDuffie will be heading up the script, and he will once again be working with Bruce Timm and Crisis on Two Earths director Sam Liu.

Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely are easily one of my favorite creative teams, and All Star Superman is high on my list of top comics of all time, so, while I am immensely excited for this project, I also want very little about the story and style to change, but if the trailer is any indication of what's to happen in this animated feature, I will be let down. The animation lightly mimics Quitely's art, which is fine. The amount of detail that goes into Frank Quitely's art is nearly impossible to adapt into animation, but it's close on a surface level [...]
