Comic-Con International To Stay In San Diego

Organizers for Comic-Con International: San Diego announced today plans to keep the mega convention in the city that gave it birth for what it calls "the foreseeable future." In a press release sent out today, it was announced that the convention would stay in the city at least through 2015. Anyone who has attended the convention knows that the show has reached the maximum amount of people that can fit in the San Diego Convention Center, but with an expansion planned for the convention center, capacity should increase somewhat and we can expect even more people to be able to attend.

The big rumor for the last few years was that the city of San Diego and specifically the Convention Center could no longer hold the influx of people that attend the show, and that it would move to one of several competing cities. The most likely names thrown out as new locations were Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Anaheim, and some thought the move would be inevitable with the show gaining importance for Hollywood folks, and that it would be better suited for them if it was closer to LA [...]

Whatever your thoughts are of Ben Affleck, there is no denying that the guy has an eye for directing. Even before Gone Baby Gone hit the theaters, there was already a considerable buzz surrounding his directorial debut and for good reason. The movie was a taut and gripping drama and showed a side of Affleck few knew even existed. While few can deny that that movie was well received, many wondered if Affleck would fair just as well, if not better, with his follow-up project, The Town.

The Town, based on the book Prince of Thieves, is a crime heist movie in the name of Michael Mann's Heat with the heart and soul of Good Will Hunting. The film focuses on a gang of bank robbers in Charlestown, Massachusetts. After a recent bank heist, the group discovers that the bank teller they took hostage (Rebecca Hall) lives in their neighborhood. Fearing they will be recognized, Doug, their de-facto leader volunteers to check her out. In the process, he gets to know the woman and falls for her. Now Doug must choose between the life he can have with the woman he loves or the loyalty of his friends [...]

‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Adds Christopher Plummer To Cast

Actor Christopher Plummer (Up, The Last Station) has joined the cast of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the adaptation of the acclaimed novel of the same name by author Stieg Larsson. The book was first adapted in the 2009 Swedish film, which has received critical acclaim since its release.

The movie tells the story of a journalist and a tech-savvy girl who are hired by a former CEO who wants them to solve a 40-year-old cold case involving the disappearance of his great niece. As their investigation moves forward, many deep and dark secrets about the family come to surface.

Plummer will be playing the role of the former CEO, Henrik Vagner. Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, Defiance) will play the journalist, Mikael Blomkvist, while Rooney Mara (A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Social Network) will take on the role of the young hacker, Lisbeth Salander. The movie also stars Robin Wright (The Princess Bride, Beowulf) as Erika Berger and Stellan Skarsgård (Good Will Hunting, Pirates of the Caribbean) as Martin Vagner. [...]

Legendary Actor Tony Curtis Dies At The Age Of 85

One of the great performers Hollywood has had the great pleasure of seeing, Tony Curtis passed away yesterday at the age of 85. Curtis's cause of death was cardiac arrest, suffered in his home near Las Vegas.

Born as Bernard Schwartz in 1925 to Jewish immigrants in the Bronx, Curtis led the life of a poor family, living in a confined space behind the tailor shop that they owned before his parents -- unable to take care of their children -- placed he and his brother in state care. After high school, Curtis served in the Navy during World War II, and watched through a pair of binoculars during Japan's formal surrender.

After that, he took up acting classes and in 1949, he began his career in films like City Across the River and Criss Cross. This set in motion what would become almost 130 acting credits. Over the next couple of decades is when Curtis really made his mark on Hollywood. Beloved classics like Sweet Smell of Success, The Defiant Ones (which nabbed the actor his first and only Academy Award nomination), Some Like it Hot, and Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus, among many, many others. Ever since the very first news that famed director Ridley Scott would be making a realistic and historically accurate new take on the fabled tale of Robin of Loxsley, I've been about as excited as you can be. Hearing that a story that I and many, many others have grown up knowing being recreated in the same vein as Scott's Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven is beautiful music to the ears of those with a love for epic period pieces, and Robin Hood just couldn't come quickly enough for me.

Instead of using the traditional story -- focusing on Robin and his Merry Men feuding with the interim king and the Sheriff of Nottingham as they steal from the wealthy and help the less fortunate -- the filmmakers decided to go in a different path. This movie is about Robin Longstride (Russell Crowe), an archer in Richard the the Lionheart's (Danny Huston) army in the year 1199. While off fighting the French, things take a turn for the worst and Robin and three of his fellow soldiers, Will Scarlett (Scott Grimes), Little John (Kevin Durand), and Alan A'Dale (Alan Doyle, in the musician's film debut), decide to get out while they still could.
