Christian E. Christiansen Confirmed For ‘Hellraiser’ Remake; Might Go For PG-13 Rating Posted: 18 Oct 2010 08:41 PM PDT At the end of the summer, it was reported that Dimension Films had been in talks with Christian E. Christiansen to direct their planned remake of Hellraiser, but that negotiations had ended. Tonight, the folks over at Bloody Disgusting are reporting that Christiansen (The Roommate) is now confirmed to direct the film, and that the studio wants Amber Heard (Zombieland, The Stepfather) for the female lead. The site states that they've received word that the studio wants to make this version of Hellraiser for "teens," meaning they'll be trying for a PG-13 rating. Putting Christiansen at the helm seems to follow this pattern, as he's just finished up on the PG-13 horror The Roommate, which looks to be like a watered-down teen version of Single White Female [...] |
DVD Review: The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss: There’s Nothing To Fear In Here Posted: 18 Oct 2010 07:30 PM PDT The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss: There's Nothing To Fear In Here DVD Directed by Steve Feldman Starring Anthony Asbury, John Kennedy, Bruce Lanoil, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, Kathryn Mullen Lionsgate Home Entertainment Release Date: October 5, 2010 All week long I've been watching scary movies like Trick R Treat, Night Of The Demons, and The Thing. Tonight, I viewed Paranormal Activity for the first time, but since it's nearing my bedtime, I don't think the last thing I see before closing my eyes should be a film about an invisible demon terrorizing a woman while she sleeps. As luck would have it, a package arrived earlier today with a DVD of The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss: There's Nothing To Fear In Here. What better way to erase the spookiness of my horror movie marathon than with a Dr. Seuss tale about how there's nothing to fear? I put in the DVD, which contains 3 episodes from what was a Jim Henson Company television series that ran in the mid-1990s, and what's the first tale about? A little girl who can't sleep at night because there's banging coming from within her closet and she's convinced the noise is being made by monsters living in there. Umm, how is this helping me forget Paranormal Activity, Dr. Seuss!? [...] |

Magnet Acquires Found Footage Film ‘The Troll Hunter’; Watch The Trailer Now! Posted: 18 Oct 2010 03:03 PM PDT A movie that has seen a some buzz recently with the release of a trailer and a festival cameo at Fantastic Fest, The Troll Hunter looks to become the next popular "found footage" film. Todd Wagner and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban's Magnet Releasing, a division of Magnolia Pictures, has announced today that they have acquired the worldwide release rights (excluding Europe) to the film. The movie tells the story of a group of Norwegian film students who set off to document the existence of trolls, which as it turns out actually exist and have been covered up by the government. What they film is an incredible and massive species, inexplicably hidden for so many years...and they're not so friendly towards others. Be sure to click on over to the other side to see one of the trailer that has been released for The Troll Hunter, which looks like the movie could be quite the wild ride. [...] |

President Barack Obama To Appear On Upcoming Episode Of ‘Mythbusters’ Posted: 18 Oct 2010 01:38 PM PDT It's been announced that Discovery Channel's popular proven-by-science show, Mythbusters, will have itself an interesting special guest during an upcoming episode: President Barack Obama. The White House has revealed that Obama has already filmed the segment, and that the episode he's set to appear on will air on December 8, 2010. The President is taking part with the show in an effort to better promote math and science education in the United States. And what will be up for busting on this special episode of Mythbusters? An old foe, of course. On two separate occasions, the team has attempted to prove whether or not Archimedes, a Greek scientist, was able to set fire to the ships of an Roman fleet that was attacking just by using a collection of mirrors and the sun's rays. Twice now this is something that has been busted, but the show has laid down the challenge to anyone to prove otherwise. Perhaps someone has done just that and this will be their stage to show how. Comic Review: The New Avengers: Luke Cage – Town Without Pity Posted: 18 Oct 2010 09:30 AM PDT The New Avengers: Luke Cage - Town Without Pity Trade Paperback Written by John Arcudi, various Art by Eric Canete & Pepe Larraz, various Colors by Chuck Chuckry, Andres Mossa, various Letters by Joe Sabino, Various Price: $14.99 Publisher: Marvel Comics Release date: September 22, 2010 Luke Cage's most recent solo adventure is the lead story collected in this trade paperback. The cover is a bit misleading because it implies that Ronin (now Hawkeye again) and Spider-Man play a major part in the series. Actually, they mainly appear in the first issue. The story takes place during the end of the Superhuman Registration Act era in the Marvel Universe. Luke Cage gets a call from his old friend Leodis Dyson. Dyson is beaten and hospitalized by gangsters in North Philadelphia, so Cage travels to Philly to help Dyson out. After he arrives, he encounters a much deeper scandal that involves corrupt politicians, gangs, and the return of a classic Luke Cage villain. John Arcudi's characterization of Luke Cage is consistent with Cage's current portrayal in the Marvel Universe. Arcudi also does an excellent job of capturing the dynamic between Cage and his wife, Jessica. They constantly bicker, but you can feel the genuine love and concern that the characters have for each other [...] |
Posted: 18 Oct 2010 06:06 AM PDT Enter The Void Directed by Gaspar Noe Starring Nathaniel Brown, Paz de la Huerta, Cyril Roy, Emily Alyn Lind, Jesse Kuhn Release date: September 24, 2010 (limited) The void, according to flamboyant director Gaspar Noe, is life. What a pessimistic outlook. But Noe does present to us through his new film Enter The Void potent, disturbing, and rotten instances that back his pessimistic perspective. As soon as we are born into this world (Noe gives us an unprecedented example of this) we have entered the void, and we only enhance the blackness of that void by making ourselves susceptible by living a life that approaches the disgusting, sick, and horror-stricken. His film is a fully realized portrait of a decaying city (Tokyo), but is it really about the world? And a fully realized portrait of its sinful inhabitants (Oscar, Linda, and their friends), but is it really supposed to represent all of humanity? Both city and its inhabitants, no matter what way you look at it, have entered the void long ago. Both have fallen victim to life's unfair ways and are guilty of self-annihilation ever since their conception. We follow Oscar (Nathaniel Brown), a twentysomething-year-old drug abuser and dealer living in Tokyo who was clean before he left New York City. He needs money to fly Linda (Paz de la Huerta), his sister, to Tokyo so they can be reunited after they have been split up due to the death of their parents. To get his sister a plane ticket Oscar turns to sex and drugs [...] |
