Movie Review: Paranormal Activity 2 Posted: 24 Oct 2010 04:57 AM PDT Paranormal Activity 2 Directed by Tod Williams Starring Sprague Grayden, Katie Featherston, Brian Boland, Molly Ephram, Micah Sloat Paramount Pictures Release date: October 22, 2010 It should be noted that a majority of this review was typed on a smartphone while sitting in the theater waiting for something to happen. Okay not really, but it could have been done that way given the amount of down time viewers have between scary parts of Paranormal Activity 2. It came as no surprise that after the original ultra-low budget original film made millions worldwide that Hollywood would try to capture lightning in a bottle a second time with a sequel. While others have done the same before with weak results (Blair Witch anyone?), it's likely Paranormal Activity 2 will get the same reaction as the first... because it IS the same as the first. The first important detail the previews left out is that this sequel is, for 97% of the film, a prequel to the original film. Set roughly two months prior to the events of the first film, Paranormal Activity 2 follows the Rey family, a married couple with two children, including newborn Hunter. After finding their home in disarray from what they believe to be a break-in, they have several security cameras installed. The film combines the footage from these cameras and a single hand-held camera that switches hands at several points [...] |
DVD Review: After Dark Horrorfest IV – Hidden Posted: 23 Oct 2010 06:32 PM PDT Hidden DVD DIRECTOR: Pål Øie STARRING: Arthur Berning, Knut Morten Brekke, Gabriel August Gjønnes, Agnes Karin Haaskjold, Andreas Haugsbø Lionsgate Home Entertainment RELEASE DATE: March 23, 2010 For four straight years now, After Dark Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For has been unleashed. Eight original horror films to quench your thirst for blood and gore and screams galore. Last year I was able to check out and review their third collection of horrors (Read: DVD Review: After Dark Horrorfest III: 8 Films To Die For), and was rather excited to check out their new slate this year! Instead of cramming every review into one mammoth review, this year we'll take it one flick at a time, with this little opener stuck at the top of each one. With each Horrorfest (the last two anyway), there's a foreign horror title included. This year, the movie came from Norway and is called Hidden (Skjult). While there are other titles that hail from other overseas locations like the UK and New Zealand, I say "foreign" meaning that this one is fully subtitled. Beginning with a tragic accident that sees a boy's family killed, the story revolves around Kai (Kristoffer Joner) who witnessed the tragedy and is brought back to the town it occurred in when his mother dies. Six Flags Unveils Absolutely Ridiculous New Superman and Green Lantern Roller Coasters Posted: 23 Oct 2010 02:04 PM PDT Considering how pocket-draining expensive it is just to park at a Six Flags, let along actually go inside and perhaps even buy something to attempt to eat, it's not always so exciting to attend the amusement park. To keep their customers coming back, Six Flags likes to build crazy new attractions, especially roller coasters for all of those enthusiasts out there who are addicted to the thrill. The problem with that is that these days it's really hard to figure out a way to keep making them bigger, faster, and more extreme than has ever been seen before. With that, Six Flags would like to introduce us to their new coasters at Magic Mountain: Superman: Escape from Krypton, and Green Lantern. Be sure to click on over to the other side to see a cool video that gives you an idea of what riding these attractions will do to your equilibrium. Hint: it's not good things. [...] |
Disney’s ‘Prep & Landing’ To Return With ‘Operation: Secret Santa’ Posted: 23 Oct 2010 07:01 AM PDT Last year, Disney premiered Prep & Landing, a half-hour television special about an elite unit of Santa's Elves known as Prep & Landing. Walt Disney Animation Studios is planning to bring the unit back in a 7-minute animated short called Prep & Landing: Operation: Secret Santa, with Betty White as the voice of Mrs. Claus. Prep & Landing: Operation: Secret Santa will air on Tuesday, December 8, 2010 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) during the holiday classic A Charlie Brown Christmas. Both programs will repeat on Thursday, December 16 from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET. The original Prep & Landing was the first television special produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and premiered last December. Aside from being from Disney, which is enough right there to get me to check it out, the original Christmas special also had Dave Foley as the voice of Wayne, one of the elite elves, and Foley is back for this new adventure! I totally loved the first Prep & Landing and was hoping by now it would be out on DVD, as I think it's a great holiday story that I'd love to see every year. I actually still have it saved on my DVR (luckily!), and have watched it a few times already, so I'm really looking forward to this follow-up. I only wish it was longer than just 7 minutes [...] |
