Geek Discussion: Does Charlie Chaplin’s 1928 Film ‘The Circus’ Show Someone On A Cell Phone? Posted: 25 Oct 2010 04:54 PM PDT Who doesn't love a good mystery? Many of you who have a strong love of films and what goes into making them probably watch a lot of the special features that come on DVDs and Blu-rays. For some of us, they can sometimes be just as good or even better than the movie we've just seen. There's just something about seeing all of the many steps of creating a movie and seeing the cast and crew on the set doing their thing that's simply fascinating to witness. Along with these great making of features, there's often plenty of other features that concentrate on various parts of a movie's journey to the big screen and our waiting eyes. One such movie fan and filmmaker named George Clarke, while checking out some of the special features on Charlie Chaplin's 1928 film, The Circus, noticed something rather strange. The feature showcased the film's premier at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, and at one moment, it would appear that a woman walks by the camera while talking on a cell phone! Did we mention this was 1928?! [...] |
New Artwork Shows ‘What If’ The Avengers Existed Centuries Ago Posted: 25 Oct 2010 01:15 PM PDT Francisco Francavilla, formerly the artist for books such as Zorro and soon to be artist on Black Panther: Man Without Fear for Marvel as well as the Commissioner Gordon backups in Detective Comics for DC, has presented a unique vision of an Avengers team from the Dark Ages. Posted on the Comic Twart blog for their Marvel "What If" week, the sepia-toned cover image -- which has the title The Avengers: Earth's First Heroes -- shows what four of the Avengers might look like if they were around a few hundred years ago. Click the image here at right for larger, full view. Francavilla said the artwork was inspired by an old pitch idea he had for a Marvel "What If" story, and described the scenario as the Avengers fighting "evils and undead armies." [...] |
‘The Walking Dead’ Zombies To Hit Major Cities Tomorrow Posted: 25 Oct 2010 10:36 AM PDT Head's up tomorrow if you're heading into a major city, there's going to be zombie outbreaks to contend with! In a stunt for AMC's upcoming series The Walking Dead, several zombie outbreaks will occur in 26 major cities around major landmarks throughout the United States and internationally, starting at daybreak tomorrow. In my area, an event will be staged at New York's Brooklyn Bridge, while the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.; Big Ben in London; the Prado Museum in Madrid; the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul; and the Acropolis in Athens will also be hit during this global zombie invasion. Check out the list below of the cities being invaded tomorrow. The stunts will start overseas beginning at daybreak in Taipei and Hong Kong on Tuesday, October 26, and continue in the other cities, finishing up at the show's Los Angeles premiere. The Walking Dead premieres on AMC on Halloween, Sunday, October 31 at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. [...] |
Revisiting A Classic: 13 Moments From ‘Back To The Future’ That Still Get A Reaction Posted: 25 Oct 2010 08:39 AM PDT In honor of the 25th anniversary of the release of Back To The Future, which arrives for the first time on Blu-ray tomorrow, and the date when the events of the movie begin (October 25), Universal re-released the film this weekend in select theaters across the country. I went to a packed Saturday morning showing, and oh does this film totally hold up over time. I've seen Back To The Future countless times on DVD (and VHS!) and there are certain scenes and quotes that always make me laugh and several moments that give me chills or make me want to cheer. That's why going to see the movie in a theater filled with fellow fans is such a great experience -- there's an entire theater of people to laugh and clap along with. For instance, at a re-release of The Nightmare Before Christmas the audience sang along to all the tunes, while at a midnight showing of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan everyone held their fist up and yelled "Khaaaannnn!!!" along with Kirk.
