10 Situations In Which It’s Appropriate To Use The ‘Inception’ Button

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 09:08 PM PDT

You know how they say that when you find The One (in a romantic sense, not in the Keanu Reeves in The Matrix sense), you realize you've been waiting for this person since before you knew they existed?

That is exactly how I feel about the Inception BRRAAAAHHHMM! button that's been making the rounds today that gives you a familiar snippet from Hans Zimmer's score. It's dramatic, exciting, attention-grabbing -- and versatile, too! I intend to have this open in my browser always from now on, because I never know when I might be in a situation where a little "BRRAAAAHHHMM" could add some pizazz, some gravitas, or just some punctuation.

Here's 10 Situations In Which It's Appropriate To Use The Inception BRRAAAAHHHMM Button [...]

Check It Out: Five Minutes Of ‘The Walking Dead’ Pilot

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 06:16 PM PDT

Walking Dead

Well Walking Dead fans, AMC has released an exclusive clip from the brand new series based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, which will premiere on Halloween night at 10/9c.

The clip is 5 minutes from the pilot episode and showcases the main character of Rick Grimes waking up in the hospital. I have to say this show looks good and so far, it seems like it captures the feel of the comic book. The video is embedded here below, so check it out and let us know what you think.

The video shows officer Rick Grimes just waking up some time after he is shot while chasing down a criminal. Rick looks to his right and sees flowers that are all dried up, which would indicate they've been there a while. He struggles to get up out of bed and falls on the ground and tries calling for a nurse, but no one answers his calls. He eventually walks out of his room and down a dirty hospital hallway with thrown papers and blood spots all over the floor and walls. He tries the phone, but it doesn't work. He looks through a window and sees a dead body on the floor that seems to be stripped of any skin and organs. The clip ends as Rick walks up to a boarded door that is chained closed, and on it are the words, "Don't Open - Dead Inside." [...]

Tom Cruise Shares Numberless New Title For ‘Mission: Impossible 4′

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 02:46 PM PDT

During a press conference in Dubai, Tom Cruise decided to reveal the new title for the fourth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, and as with many titles these days, it may have some fans scratching their heads.

Cruise said "One of the things I always wanted for the franchise was for it not to have a number afterwards. I've never done sequels to films and I never thought of these films as sequels. Paramount has done a great job in coming up with a title, so it's not going to be MI2, 3, 4: It's going to be Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol."

As you can tell, something about it doesn't feel right. Even the simple adjustment of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol would be an improvement, but it still would sound very much cheesy. Especially being directed by someone like Brad Bird, who's known for classics like The Incredibles and Ratatouille, you would think a much better title could have been set. [...]

First Official Photo Of Chris Evans As Captain America [Updated]

Captain America FIrst Look

*UPDATED BELOW*

Well, after what seems like months of nothing but unofficial set photos and test shots to go on, Entertainment Weekly has the first official pictures of Chris Evans as Captain America in the upcoming film Captain America: The First Avenger.

In the upcoming issue, of which Evans as Cap graces the cover, Evans talks about his doubts about taking the role. The article also reveals that Cap's enemy, the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) has a "plan for world domination [that] involves a magical object known as The Tesseract" (aka, The Cosmic Cube).

I have to admit, I was not pleased when they first announced Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, since he's already played Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies. I am not really fond of actors playing different characters in the same comic book universe; it tends to ruin my "make-believe time." Also, I was unsure whether Evans could bulk up to really look the part [...]

5 Things We Hope To See In A New ‘Superman’ Film

Superman

The Man of Steel has not fared well on the big screen in the last few decades. After some very well-remembered work by the Salkinds, Richard Donner, and Richard Lester in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Superman movie franchise found itself out in the wilderness. It first passed through the hands of Menachem Golan and Yoram Globus (best known for making B-grade action flicks with likes of Sylvester Stallone, Chuck Norris, and Jean-Claude Van Damme), only to move through nearly 20 years of development hell under the supervision of Jon Peters (originally known as Barbara Streisand's hair stylist, but later the producer of Flashdance, The Color Purple, Batman, and Batman Returns, among others.) These changes have not been kind to the franchise, moving it from broad comedy (Superman III) to low budget mess (Superman IV: The Quest For Peace) to high budget mediocrity (Superman Returns). It's enough to make the conspiracy-minded think that the bottled water served in Los Angeles is spiked with Kryptonite.

Lately, Superman fans have new reasons for hope that Hollywood will restore luster to the franchise. Warner Brothers has put creative control of the next Superman film in the hands of Christoper Nolan. Mr. Nolan brought his Batman Begins/The Dark Knight collaborator David S. Goyer on board to write the script and brought in Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) to direct. This is a creative team known for turning comic books and superheroes into films that are true to their roots, popular with both fans and the general public, and critically well-received. Where past films attempted more to bring Superman to a particular genre (comedy, CGI action), perhaps the last son of Krypton will finally get a story that says something more uniquely about him.

It is in this spirit that I offer these 5 ideas about what the next Superman film should include. [...]

I'll start things of with a personal admission of guilt: when it comes to anything set far, far back in time, especially those that involve swords and shields and horses and bloody chaotic battles, I'm usually a fan. Movies like Gladiator and Braveheart or TV shows like HBO's Rome have all left me gleefully satisfied upon watching, and I'm always hungry for more of the same.

Because of this, you could say I might be a little biased towards a show like Starz's Spartacus: Blood and Sand, and you could be right. The moment I saw that this new show was coming, I was filled with excitement and couldn't wait to get my eyes on it.

But to be perfectly honest, things did not start off too well for me and this show. [...]

Comic Review: Superman Earth One

Superman Earth One

Superman: Earth One
Hardcover
Written by J. Michael Straczynski
Art by Shane Davis
DC Comics
Released Date: October 27, 2010

Superman: Earth One is an exciting, modern revamp of a character that most everyone reading this has been familiar with as long as memory serves us. In a lot of fans' opinions, Superman doesn't need changing, but in the eyes of the majority, he needed an upgrade, and Earth One is a brilliant example of how to take the character in a new, relevant direction.

As reported, this is an origin story of Superman taking place in a modern setting. An alien boy is found in a small country town in Kansas named Smallville. When he's older, Clark Kent goes from Smallville to the big city of Metropolis with a gift. His parents encourage the young man to stand up for what is morally right, but he is uncertain of himself. Clark is searching for jobs and positions to help his widowed mother, and he stumbles upon a local newspaper named The Daily Planet. A villainous force comes to Metropolis to find Clark, and he finds the will to protect the Earth. This is your typical origin story for Superman. The main difference? Superman is not a boyscout, and I believe it's for the better [...]
