Must Read: Joss Whedon Responds To ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ Reboot

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 06:18 PM PST

Mere hours ago, word hit the internet that Warner Brothers had acquired the rights to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and would be moving forward on a reboot of the property based on a pitch by Whit Anderson, who is currently working on the screenplay for her take on the character.

Well, it didn't take long for someone to get a hold of Joss Whedon, who wrote the script for the 1992 original Buffy starring Kristy Swanson, created, wrote, directed, and produced the mega-popular TV series of the same name starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, and is also responsible for things like Firefly, Angel, and Dollhouse. Whedon is busy working away on The Avengers, the Marvel comic book movie that's been set up over the past handful of years to become one of the biggest movies of all time, which he was hired to write and direct. Nevertheless, the fanboy favorite took the time to write a response letter sharing his feelings on the new reboot, and you don't want to miss what he had to say.

You can head on over to the other side to read the full letter from Whedon, and you should plan to giggle once or twice. [...]

‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ Reboot Moves Forward With Writer Whit Anderson

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 03:05 PM PST

A feature film reboot of the popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer is now moving forward with a new writer and major studio backing.

In May of 2009, it was reported that the reboot -- without the great Joss Whedon -- was possible, and that Kuzui Enterprises was receiving many inquires about sequels and reboots and many other things. It took a little while to get something done, but now Warner Brothers has stepped in to acquire the rights from Kuzui, and has joined forces with Vertigo Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment to make it happen.

Not only that, but a writer has been found to get the script going, and that writer is Whit Anderson. The 29-year-old Anderson is a newcomer to the business, with only three small credits to her name as an actress -- two in short films and one a small role in Yes Man -- and none as a writer. Anderson won the job based on a pitch that really appealed to those who back the film, who were impressed with her understanding of where they wanted to go with Buffy and the tone she was presenting. Netflix Unveils Streaming-Only Option, Raises Prices On Other Plans

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 02:00 PM PST

You've wanted it, and now you've got it: Netflix has announced their new streaming-only plan, for those of you who have no use for one or two DVDs out at a time, and are only interested in watching movies and TV shows directly on your computer, gaming console, or various other streaming options.

Netflix states that the new plan will cost you $7.99 a month, which is a dollar less than what the next plan up -- one DVD out at a time along with the instant streaming -- used to be.

This of course brings us to the next announcement Netflix made, which is increases to all of their prices. Due to the growing quantity of movie and TV show offerings that are streamed, the company will add $1 to the cost of their $8.99 and $13.99 plans. All plans after that will see multi-dollar increases in prices, anywhere from $3 to $8 more than they once were. [...]

Starz Unveils Trailer For ‘Spartacus: Blood And Sand’ Prequel ‘Gods Of The Arena’

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 07:00 AM PST

The first trailer for the mini-series prequel to Starz's hit show, Spartacus: Blood and Sand, has been released online.

The six-episode prequel, titled Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, was announced after series star Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, delaying production on season 2 of the show. Sadly, Whitfield has faced setbacks in his fight, and recently it was announced that the lead role would be re-cast. Starz has now narrowed their search down to just a few names, and we should get an announcement on who will be stepping into the role and when production on season 2 will begin in the near future.

Now you can see a trailer for Gods of the Arena by clicking over to the other side, which is accompanied by a lengthy synopsis. The prequel debuts on January 21 at 10pm EST on Starz.

SYNOPSIS
Before Spartacus struck down his first opponent in the arena, there were many gladiators who passed through the gates onto the sand. "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," tells the story of the original Champion of the House of Batiatus: Gannicus (Dustin Clare) in a more ruthless time before Spartacus' arrival where honor was just finding it's way into the arena.
