Geek Gear: Even Sonic The Hedgehog Can’t Escape The Recession Posted: 02 Dec 2010 09:46 PM PST There's yet another great new t-shirt is up over at TeeFury, and this time it jumps into the realms of SEGA Genesis's Sonic the Hedgehog. The shirt is titled 16 Bit Recession, and tells a story of how even our favorite video game characters just aren't able to escape the harsh financial times we all live in these days. It shows Sonic, with a few boxes packed full of the shiny golden rings he's been collecting over the years, standing at a Cash for Gold, ready to pawn his livelihood off for whatever bit of cash he can pocket. The shirt, as always, will run you the more-than-fair price of $9, and comes in guy's and girl's sizes small through extra large, with the additional XXL size available for men. Today's design comes from torakamikaze, and will be available for the normal 24-hour period until midnight EST tonight. After that, it will be gone forever. [...] |
Blend Of Doom: Determining The Ultimate Geek Movies Of All Time Posted: 02 Dec 2010 06:56 PM PST This week, the podcast Social Blend, which I co-host with Jay Fowler aka SilentJay74, was invaded by the Geeks of Doom! Empress Eve and Tched were considerate enough to join us in a discussion focusing on what we believe to be The Ultimate Geek Movies of All Time. Quite frequently, you will find some blogs try to come up with some attempt at a "Top 10" list of best movies within any given subject area, but for this special edition of Social Blend, we decided to simply discuss, debate, and squabble about (and in some cases, ridicule) the movies we collectively believe should be on every geek's DVD shelf. Aside from the obvious selections from the dominions of Star Wars and Star Trek, we had a look at all kinds of movies from a wide range of genres and categories -- from movies based on comics, to science fiction, to music-based films, to horror and beyond [...] |
Craig Ferguson’s ‘Doctor Who’ Musical Intro Leaks Online Posted: 02 Dec 2010 06:01 PM PST Doctor Who fans will remember last month that current Time Lord, Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor, made an appearance on the U.S. talk show The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Those who watched the episode and interview with Matt Smith may recall that there were some vague references to a particular "musical number" that Ferguson jokingly worried that might "leak online." That particular musical skit is now on the web, and Ferguson tweeted it out today lightheartedly mentioning it had finally been "leaked." You can see the music intro they did for the show (which concludes with a special guest), as well as the full interview with Matt Smith below [...] |
Blu-ray Review: Scooby-Doo 1 & 2 Collection Posted: 02 Dec 2010 04:39 PM PST Scooby-Doo 1 & 2 Collection Blu-ray Directed by Raja Gosnell Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Release date: November 10, 2010 I have never been a big Scooby-Doo fan. I was more involved with mutant turtles and tiny toons to pay attention, but I had some passing knowledge of the popular cartoon. Next to Mickey Mouse, Scooby-Doo is pretty high up on the animated animal chart so it was only natural that his presence would be felt on the big screen. Enter Scooby-Doo and its sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, which were recently re-released on Blu-ray as a two-pack. Scooby-Doo brings the famous Mystery Inc. detective agency together in their first live-action adventure. After a solving case involving a flying "ghost," the Scooby gang gets into a heated argument, resulting in Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby going their separate ways. Two years pass and the former Scooby gang are brought back together once more by an eccentric millionaire. It seems his amusement park, Spooky Island, is having an odd effect on his guests and he wants the top detective agency to solve the mystery. In Scooby Doo-2, the sequel picks up with Mystery Inc. right at the height of their popularity up until some of their foes from their cartoon past make their presence appear, causing all sorts of havoc on their lives [...] |
Theme Park Watch: Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Winter Castle Posted: 02 Dec 2010 01:38 PM PST Disney Parks Blog has posted a time-lapsed video of Sleeping Beauty's Winter Castle at Disneyland Park as it transforms from its daytime appearance to its lit up nighttime look. Watch the video here below. The 45-second video, set to the classic Christmas tune "Carol Of The Bells," shows Sleeping Beauty's Castle at the California theme park decorated with a beautiful winter wonderland design. We then see as the sky darkens, the lights on the castle begin to glow, sparkle, and change colors. The end of the time-lapsed video shows part of one of the nighttime light shows. At the end of the video, you saw a quickened version of one of the nighttime light shows. The Sleeping Beauty Winter Castle light show is divided into three "acts" over the course of the evening. Each one begins at the Castle and travels the length of Main Street, U.S.A., finishing at the Town Square Christmas tree. Each act features a magical snowfall, and the final act concludes with "Believe…in Holiday Magic" fireworks. [...] |
Release Date, Cover Art For ‘All-Star Superman’ Animated Feature Posted: 02 Dec 2010 11:13 AM PST A lot of comic fans have been looking forward to the next DC Universe Animated Feature, All-Star Superman, and now they have a date to look forward to. It was announced that the DVD and Blu-ray will be released on February 22, 2011. We also got a look at the cover which doesn't look like it was actually done by Frank Quietly, artist of the comic series the movie is based on, but it does look very similar to his style. See the cover art here at right. All-Star Superman is as I said, based on the comic of the same name, written by Grant Morrison with art by Quietly. The story follows a dying Superman as he faces his last days and has one last battle with Lex Luthor. The comic is one of the best series of the last few years, and it will be interesting to see how the unique story is translated into a 70-minute movie. The movie is executive produced by Bruce Timm (mastermind of the DC animated universe), directed by Sam Liu (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths) and written by Dwayne McDuffie (also Crisis on Two Earths, as well as a bunch of Justice League Unlimited episodes). The movie features James Denton as Superman, Christina Hendricks as Lois Lane, and Anthony LaPaglia as Lex Luther [...] |

Introducing The TARDIS Bed: Just What The Doctor Ordered Posted: 02 Dec 2010 09:13 AM PST It may look like a single bed, but I've been assured it's bigger on the inside. Imagine having your own bed, just like this one, based on the TARDIS. Doctor Who fans, here's your chance, because this unique TARDIS Murphy Bed is currently up for auction over at TradeMe.co.nz, a bidding site based in New Zealand. This bed was built by an exceptionally talented New Zealand fan, who assembled this TARDIS bed for his son. While it looks cool, there's some hidden features here that are just awesome. The police light on top of the TARDIS works, and also doubles as a star projector, which projects the mighty Southern Cross onto the ceiling. The telephone doesn't work, but it does have a secret button that you can press to play the sound effects of the TARDIS. On top of that, there's also a series of LED lights, with different settings for a variety of pulse patterns [...] |
Original Stars Marc Singer, Jane Badler To Join ABC’s ‘V’ Posted: 02 Dec 2010 08:03 AM PST According to sources, Marc Singer will be joining the cast of ABC's alien invasion series, V. Singer is no stranger to that world, as the actor played the lead role of Mike Donovan on the original V, which aired in the '80s. The actor, who is perhaps best known from his lead role in The Beastmaster, will be playing Lars Tremont, one of the members of a secret organization consisting of top military and government leaders from all over the world This goes along with the news that Jane Badler, who also starred as Diana in the original series opposite of Singer, will be joining the cast of the ABC's reboot. Badler will take on the role of the evil mother of Anna, played by fanboy favorite Morena Baccarin of Firefly and Serenity fame, and she'll make her debut on the January 4, 2011 premiere of season 2. For those excited about the news of Singer's return to the world of V, the news is a little less exciting. [...] |
