Mega Millions Lottery Almost Delivers Hurley’s Cursed ‘LOST’ Numbers

Posted: 05 Jan 2011 08:42 PM PST

There were a ton of great characters on ABC's brilliant show, LOST, and they were played by an incredibly talented group of actors. But there were also a few characters on the show that didn't require actors, and one of them were the infamous cursed numbers.

The numbers first showed up in season one when a flashback revealed that Hurley was actually incredibly rich after hitting the lottery. But after winning this vast amount of wealth, things start to go very, very badly for Hurley, and he becomes convinced that the numbers are cursed. After that, the numbers -- 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 -- take on a life of their own, and we see them tie deeply into LOST's intricate plot as the series moved forward.

As proof of how insanely popular the show became in its time on the air, people all over play these numbers on a regular basis when they take part in the lottery. As you'd expect, this very rarely pays off as, well, what are the chances...right? [...]

See What the Visitors From ‘V’ Really Look Like

Posted: 05 Jan 2011 06:31 PM PST

V Logo

While the second season of ABC's V premiered to decent ratings last night, the network isn't slowing down any promotion for its top sci-fi show.

In an exclusive story with USA Today, ABC released an official image that shows exactly what the alien Visitors look like underneath all that human flesh. We've included the full image and analysis after the jump for those that want to avoid some major spoilers.

According to the USA Today piece, over the course of the second season's ten episodes, viewers will get looks and glances at the V's appearance, but the full alien won't be unveiled until the season finale. Executive Producer Scott Rosenbaum had this to say on the new look [...]

The CW Releases New ‘Smallville’ Teaser Poster

Posted: 05 Jan 2011 05:12 PM PST

Destiny is Now

On Friday, January 29th, Smallville will begin the run of its final episodes leading up to the Series Finale of what has been the longest-running Superman television show in history and to celebrate this tremendous occasion, The CW released an exclusive poster to the DC Source Blog yesterday morning.

We've included the poster here at right (click for larger, full view). While the poster is pretty neat within itself, it has a even bigger surprise if you take a closer look (hint: take a good look at Clark's reflection).

As the poster clearly states, Destiny is Now for Clark Kent. These final episodes will lead up to a finale which will hopefully see Tom Welling don the iconic Superman suit, thus finally embracing the destiny that he was born to live as he becomes the legendary Man of Steel. From the spoilers and coverage I've read online, it sounds like Smallville fans are in for a real treat for these final episodes and I'm eager to see what showrunners Brian Peterson and Kelly Saunders and the rest of the writing staff have in store for us [...]

Homeless Man With “Golden Voice” Finds Happy Ending After Incredible Offers

Posted: 05 Jan 2011 03:52 PM PST

Earlier today, we shared with you the story that's been sweeping the country about a homeless man with one of the best radio voices you'll ever hear, a happy ending has already presented itself.

While doing a lengthy radio interview with WNCI 97.9 in Columbus, Ohio, Ted Williams -- now clean-cut and looking in much higher spirits -- talked about becoming an overnight sensation and how all he was really humbly looking for was a second chance. The radio DJs that brought him in, Dave & Jimmy, were so inspired by his story that they wanted to get him on the air, and see if they could get any job or work opportunities to come through for Ted. What happened after that was nothing short of amazing.

In the first part, the station fielded some calls from people who had been moved by the story. The first was associated with MTV and wanted to fly Williams out to LA for some work as a guest announcer on one of their shows. Next up came a pair of people who turned out to be two of the top voice over talents working today -- even going so far as to show off their talents as the guy we hear on CBS promos and the woman we hear during the Academy Awards telecast -- who wanted to offer Williams the chance to compete in a competition to find the next big voice. Bagley went to work on various DC projects while Bendis has worked on major Marvel events and on the Avengers titles.

Not only will the story be in Ultimate Spider-Man but it will crossover into Ultimate Avengers VS New Ultimates. Marvel has not revealed many details about the story and how Spidey will be laid to rest, but it will be a major blow to the Ultimate Universe and all of its characters. Misa Digital ‘TRON’-Style Guitar Now Available For Pre-Order

Posted: 05 Jan 2011 11:03 AM PST

Misa Digital Guitar

When we first reported on the Misa Digital Guitar about a year ago, it was a prototype guitar that looked like a Guitar Hero controller with a touch pad, which was indeed an actual musical instrument. [READ: Guitar Hero Eat Your Heart Out – Misa Digital Guitar]

A really cool looking instrument.

In a post-TRON: Legacy pop culture world, I'm more inclined to compare it to something you'd find played in Castor's EOLC (End of Line Club) rather than a toy you plug into a gaming console.

Misa is now taking pre-orders on two versions of their guitar: The Kitara ($849), which "is crafted with high-density injection-molded ABS polymer, MIDI controller and onboard digital synthesizer with an eight-inch multi-touch screen" and the Kitara Limited Edition ($2,899) that sports a solid aluminum body [...]

Gemma Arterton Joins Jeremy Renner In ‘Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters’

Posted: 05 Jan 2011 08:58 AM PST

Gemma Arterton has been cast as Gretel in Paramount Pictures' upcoming action/horror/fantasy sequel to the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel.

The new movie, titled Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, is considered more of a continuation of the tale than a sequel, and sees the siblings many years later, now spending their days as bounty hunters. It also stars Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) as Hansel.

Arterton has been a steadily growing star over the past couple of years with appearances in films like Quantum of Solace, The Disappearance of Alice Creed, Clash of the Titans, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters will be directed by Tommy Wirkola, the Norwegian talent who's previous work includes the Nazi zombie horror flick, Dead Snow. Wirkola has promised that his Hansel and Gretel has all sorts of good fun blood and gore and will come with the badge of honor R-rating. [...]

UPDATED! Must See/Hear: Homeless Man With Perfect Radio Voice Hopes For A Second Chance

Posted: 05 Jan 2011 07:13 AM PST

While this may not be all that fitting to the movies and comics and other geek-related things we cover, radio is a form of media and this is simply too good to ignore.

Recently in Columbus, Ohio, a homeless man named Ted Williams was discovered with a sign saying "I have a God-given gift of voice. I'm an ex-radio announcer who has fallen on hard times. Please! Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Thank you and God bless you." It was decided to test this man and see if it was all just a ruse to try and make a quick buck. It was not.

The result will absolutely astonish you, perhaps even to a point where you'll think it's a dubbed video. If it would have stopped after the first thing he said I would have sworn it was fake, but then it keeps going. Mind. Blown.

The man lets one of the greatest radio voices you'll ever hear, and makes his case for work in radio, voice over, and other various other areas. [...]
