‘Twilight Saga’ Writer Melissa Rosenberg To Pen ‘Highlander’ Remake Posted: 09 Feb 2011 10:21 PM PST A new writer is set to take on Summit Entertainment's remake of the 1986 fantasy favorite, Highlander, which tells the story of a group of immortals who can only kill each other via decapitation, and acquire their foe's powers whenever they take their life. The studio has entered into negotiations with Melissa Rosenberg to craft the latest draft of the script, which has seen a few writers work on it already. Rosenberg is best known for her work on The Twilight Saga, where she penned the scripts for Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and both parts of Breaking Dawn. This may make Highlander fans uneasy and worried about a remake they likely don't even want to see to begin with, but fear not. While the Twilight franchise is a painful blemish on cinematic history, Rosenberg has some much better credits to her name, namely the eleven episodes of Dexter that she has written. The first attempt at the script was handled by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, followed by another draft by Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Sellek Wibberley. [...] |
Activision Kills Off ‘Guitar Hero’ Franchise, ‘DJ Hero’ & ‘True Crime’ Posted: 09 Feb 2011 06:01 PM PST A couple of significant bombs were dropped earlier today during Activision's quarterly financial conference, where reports swirled that massive layoffs at multiple divisions were handed out and that some of the company's bigger titles were being ended. As popularity in the music video games genre has slowly diminished, the studio has decided to shut down two of their popular titles including DJ Hero and the juggernaut that once was Guitar Hero, which had a new installment planned for 2011. At the moment Rock Band is the top title in said genre, so it only made sense for Activision to pull the plug and move on. And if the decline in popularity continues, the same fate is likely not too far off for Rock Band as well. In addition to this, it was announced that the development of True Crime: Hong Kong has been scrapped as well, killing off what was supposed to be a reboot of the franchise. [...] |

Julia Roberts Cast As Evil Queen In New ‘Snow White’ Posted: 09 Feb 2011 04:03 PM PST And here we are again! Upcoming films based on the tale of Snow White are all moving their pieces into place in an attempt to keep up with their competitors. We've heard about Universal Pictures' Snow White and the Huntsman lining up stars such as Charlize Theron, Viggo Mortensen, and Kristen Stewart for potential roles. Then came word that Disney, who's coming back with another take on the story they used for the 1937 animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs titled Snow and the Seven, had hired the writer of Toy Story 3 to pen their script. Being sure to keep pace with the others, Relativity Media's adaptation of the tale, titled The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, has acquired the services of a big name talent. In a press release sent out by the studio, they've announced that Julia Roberts has joined their film, and she will be playing their Evil Queen character. [...] |
Doom Deliveries: Quirk Books 2010 Mix Tape Posted: 09 Feb 2011 02:01 PM PST At the end of 2010, a nifty little item arrived from Quirk Books, the publisher of such titles as Dracula's Heir, Night of the Living Trekkies, The Encyclopedia Shatnerica, and of course, their most popular offering, the zombie/classic lit mash-up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: a Mix Tape! The image above was on the cover of the cassette case (click image to see the full view, including the actual tape), and inside was what looked like a cassette tape, but upon further inspection, I saw that it was actually a USB flash drive. A message inside explained that because the good folks at Quirk Books love me soooooo much, they put together a mix of songs as a thank you [...] |

‘Doctor Who’ Infographic By Bob Canada Posted: 09 Feb 2011 08:54 AM PST Artist Bob Canada has created a wonderful Doctor Who infographic with lots of great details about each of the eleven doctors and the Doctor's background, as well as information on the TARDIS and more. Along with the info comes the illustrations, which are awesome (it's got that Hanna-Barbera feel to it). The image above is a snippet from the infographic, so click it to see a larger, full view, and be sure to visit Bob Canada's Blogworld site to see the highly readable super-sized [and printable, I'd say] version of it, and to read the artist's thoughts on this project [...] |
