Music Review: Thor: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Posted: 06 May 2011 06:19 PM PDT Thor: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack CD | MP3 By Patrick Doyle Buena Vista Records Release Date: May 3, 2011 One of the things I love most about seeing a movie for the first time is experiencing its music score. I have many favorites but the ones that affect me the most are the great adventure scores, from Erich Wolfgang Korngold's jaunty and propulsive The Adventures of Robin Hood to John Williams' endlessly hum-worthy Raiders of the Lost Ark. The best of these scores tend to plant themselves deep in my mind and always pipe up at moments when I need those sounds the most and my MP3 player is nowhere to be found. They calm my soul and motivate me to conquer each of life's challenges, be they minor or potentially life-threatening, with a hearty laugh and my arms jutted forward like I could take off flying at any moment [...] |
Geek Discussion: Do YOU Want To See Keanu Reeves Play Kaneda In An ‘Akira’ Movie? Posted: 06 May 2011 05:02 PM PDT A live-action American adaptation of the popular Japanese manga and animated feature film, Akira, has been on the way for a while now with Albert Hughes (of the Hughes Brothers) attached to direct. Many rumors have swirled around the proposed film, but nothing quite solid has ever manifested yet. And that seems to be just fine with Akira fans everywhere, who have made it pretty clear that they don't think a live-action adaptation would work and they don't want to see it happen. Of course that's just what they say now, and if a really well-done movie is made with the proper cast and an intriguing trailer is released, those very same fans would likely be singing a different tune. Which brings us to today. Heath Vision is reporting that Warner Brothers has had some discussions with Keanu Reeves, star of the very successful Matrix franchise, about playing one of the lead roles in Akira, Kaneda. Keep in mind that Reeves isn't even officially "in talks" for the role yet, but all signs point to he and Warner Bros. being very interested. [...] |
‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Writers Want To Create ‘Alien’ & ‘Terminator’ Level Female Lead Posted: 06 May 2011 03:26 PM PDT A pair of writers have been hired to pen the script for a planned reboot of the Tomb Raider movie franchise. GK Films has brought in Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who have worked together on movies like Children of Men, Iron Man, and Cowboys & Aliens, to write the reboot...and they have big plans in mind. The duo boldly state that they want to take the strong lead female character, Lara Croft, and put together an origins story that will see her joining the ranks of the all-time most badass female leads like Ripley from Alien (Sigourney Weaver) and Sarah Connor from the Terminator movies (most notably played by Linda Hamilton). At the moment only the writers have been signed and no actresses have been discussed as potential stars for the iconic role, nor has a director been hired. But the plan is to have the ambitious reboot finished for a 2013 release, so expect to hear much more about this movie in the coming months. [...] |
Book Review: Everyone Loves You When You’re Dead Posted: 06 May 2011 02:45 PM PDT Everyone Loves You When You're Dead Journeys Into Fame And Madness Paperback By Neil Strauss HarperCollins/It Books Release date: March 15, 2011 To say that Everyone Loves You When You're Dead is merely a collection of interviews with celebrities and major contributors to decades of pop culture would be to sell it short. There's a lot more to this book, just as there's a lot more to a person beyond their fame and public achievements. Behind the personas that are created to market the products of their talents are (surprise!) real people. In his latest book, author Neil Strauss does what he does best: drawing the famous (and in some cases, the not-so-famous-but-should-be) out of their protective shells and somehow getting them to voluntarily lift up their skirts and show him their knickers, whether they be pretty, plastic, stained, or bloody. We get the unabashed truth, not a stylized or sanitized version of it [...] |
