REMINDER: Neil Gaiman’s ‘Doctor Who’ Episode To Air This Saturday! Posted: 13 May 2011 08:34 PM PDT The long-awaited episode of Doctor Who penned by fan favorite Neil Gaiman is set to air in the UK on BBC and in the USA on BBC America this Saturday night. In the run up to the broadcast of the show, entitled The Doctor's Wife, the BBC has released a whole bunch of videos and images, which you can view below. The Gaiman episode has been highly anticipated by fans and features Suranne Jones acting as Idris who teams up with the Doctor (Matt Smith) in an adventure set on a junkyard planet. Regular companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) are also in the show, as is a cameo of a set that has not been seen for quite some time: the TARDIS console room used by previous Doctor, David Tennant. As always, the TARDISblend podcast will review this episode after it airs, and you'll be able to hear the show right here at Geeks of Doom. In the meantime, enjoy the video previews and the image gallery below... just beware of spoilers! [...] |
Countdown To Smallville: Top Meteor Freaks Posted: 13 May 2011 04:25 PM PDT Tonight, superhero and science fiction television history will be made with the finale episode of the decade-spanning CW program, Smallville. Smallville has made its way into all hearts, whether loved or hated, there's no doubting the power that this show has had. In an effort to honor the epic two-hour finale, Geeks of Doom has taken it upon some its writers to remember the show in its final moments, and for this man, one of my favorite parts of the early days were those one-off shows that fans lovingly referred to as "Freaks of the Week." As the show continued, we saw the evolution from "meteor freaks" to metahumans, and in the past few seasons, DC Universe cameos, but the meteor freaks from the first seasons still have a large piece of my heart. This is not a comprehensive or "best of list" because I wouldn't dare say that one of these is better than the other, but listed below are some of my personal favorites. Whether being the guest character in an amazing one-off episode, or a character that had an incredibly amount of heart, these are my Top Meteor Freaks [...] |
TV Madness: NBC Renews ‘Chuck,’ Cancels ‘The Event’; ABC Cancels ‘V’ Posted: 13 May 2011 02:31 PM PDT As you may have noticed, there's been a bit of television shuffling lately. It's that purely chaotic time of year when networks decide what shows they keep and what shows they kill, as well as what new shows they'll order seasons of. Last night news broke that CBS was going to keep pressing on with their seemingly doomed Two and a Half Men by replacing Charlie Sheen with Ashton Kutcher. Then, late last night, it was reported that NBC was not going to take the chance everyone thought they would on the much talked about comic book adaptation, Wonder Woman. This has continued today with a mess of announcements and updates making their way across the 'net. Some will not matter much to anyone while others will either excite or devastate loyal fans of these various titles facing the firing squad. Let's start with the good news: fans of the hit NBC show, Chuck, will be happy to know that despite some fears of its demise, the network has decided to renew for a "fifth and final" season, which will run 13 new episodes. Countdown To Smallville: What You Need To Know Posted: 13 May 2011 01:16 PM PDT Well, the time has come. The Smallville series finale is upon us. Some are happy to see it go, others (like myself) will miss it terribly, and still others could swear it ended five years ago. Regardless, millions will tune in for what fans are calling "The End of the Beginning" tonight at 8/7c on the CW. But what if you haven't watched the show since before Clark Kent even had a Fortress of Solitude? Or if you've never seen an episode at all? What if there was a series recap that gave you a complete guide to everything you needed to know going into the finale? That would be the best article ever, wouldn't it? Well, hold on to your capes, because you're about to experience 10 years of Smallville in about 10 minutes! MAJOR SPOILERS for Smallville follow! [...] |

TV Review: ‘Doctor Who: Day of the Moon, The Curse of the Black Spot’ Posted: 13 May 2011 11:42 AM PDT Doctor Who Series 6, Episode 2 (Day of the Moon) and 3 (The Curse of the Black Spot) Directed by Toby Haynes (Day of the Moon) and Jeremy Webb (The Curse of the Black Spot) Written by Steven Moffat (Day of the Moon) and Steve Thompson (The Curse of the Black Spot) Staring: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Alex Kingston, Mark Sheppard, Stuart Milligan, Chukwudi Iwuji, Hugh Bonneville, Lily Cole, and Frances Barber BBC America Air date: April 30, May 7, 2011 Exams put my review of the new Doctor Who episodes Day of the Moon behind a bit more than I'd like, so I figured I'd lump it in with my The Curse of the Black Spot review. This ended up being a good thing, cause I have lots to say about one of these episodes and not so much to say about the other. Hit the jump for the full review [...] |
‘Today’ Host Meredith Vieira Films ‘Doctor Who’ Cameo – and Reveals Some Big Spoilers! Posted: 13 May 2011 10:16 AM PDT In one of perhaps the most unusual cameos to ever happen in Doctor Who ever, NBC's Meredith Vieira from the Today show makes an appearance on one of the closing episodes of the current series. After filming her cameo, Vieira aired a segment on her morning talk show, which you can check out at the bottom of this post. Vieira's segment not only features some cool "in-character" interviews with The Doctor (Matt Smith) and River Song (Alex Kingston), but some spoilery revelations as well. While I love the fact that showrunner Steven Moffat and the Doctor Who crew give out little tidbits, teasers, and clues in the lead-up to the airing of episodes; I'm extremely surprised that they let some of these spoilers slip out (and be seen!) in Vieira's segment for the Today show. That being said, some of the footage and discussion in the video does match up with some of the theories that we've recently been discussing on the TARDISblend podcast [...] |
NBC Does Us All A Favor, Kills Off ‘Wonder Woman’ Before It Even Starts Posted: 13 May 2011 08:45 AM PDT NBC has been known for producing some pretty unwatchable shows in the past -- the later seasons of Heroes and The Cape jump to mind -- but even they see things for what they are before it's too late on occasion. It's being reported that NBC has chosen to pass up on the Wonder Woman TV series they once saved from death. After many attempts to make the heroine into a movie, Warner Brothers decided to try the TV format. At one point it looked like no one would even touch the show, which was being developed by David E. Kelley, but then rose NBC, out of the shadows to pay some major coin to give Wonder Woman her shot. Much work was done to prepare a pilot, which was filmed and delivered to what was said to be some "positive reactions," but when it came down to choosing their fall lineup, NBC decided the show just wasn't worth putting more money into.
