Book Review: The Zombie Combat Manual Posted: 16 May 2011 06:02 PM PDT The Zombie Combat Manual A Guide to Fighting the Living Dead Paperback | Kindle by Roger Ma Berkley Trade Release Date: April 6, 2010 Sooner or later we're going to be faced with the zombie apocalypse. It's gonna happen folks. They're coming to get you Barbara, or Bob, or Philippe, or whatever. The warning signs are everywhere, and the success of The Walking Dead is just the latest. One of these days you're going to be in your backyard relaxing in a hammock with a tall, cool glass of fresh lemonade, the warm summer air and the serene peacefulness of the day lulling you into an afternoon nap, when all of a sudden a horde of the flesh-crazed undead will come busting through your fence (which you just painted after the wife had been nagging at you all week to get it done.... damn it) howling and drooling and ready to take a chomp out of your worthless hide. They're dead, they're all messed up, you know? Now you have but only a few seconds to respond, so what do you do? Risk becoming either a meal for an army of slobbering, shambling corpses or perhaps become one of them, or you get up off your ass and take the matter into your own hands? Don't you know what's going on out there? There is no Sunday school picnic goddamnit! Whatever your decision may be, it would help to have a copy of Roger Ma's The Zombie Combat Manual at your side. When the stinking cesspool of Hades starts cracking down on their admission policy, your life just might depend on it. Die, or survive.... your call [...] |
‘Thor’ Star Chris Hemsworth To Star Opposite Of Kristen Stewart In ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ Posted: 16 May 2011 04:02 PM PDT As many of you know, there's a few new Snow White projects in development. One of these projects is titled Snow White and the Huntsman, which once upon a time had Kristen Stewart in line to star in the lead, and names like Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron said to be up for roles as well. Theron is still expected to play the Evil Queen and Stewart has since been confirmed to play Snow White in the movie, but her huntsman -- expected to be the aforementioned Mortensen -- has now changed. It's been reported and confirmed that Chris Hemsworth, star of the new Marvel summer blockbuster, Thor, will be playing the male lead instead. The news comes after some whispers of Hemsworth being a possibility for the role were swirling, and it is undoubtedly a strong signing with Hemsworth right on the brink of becoming quite the hot commodity in Hollywood...much the same as we recently saw with someone like Sam Worthington, for instance. Adam WarRock To Release New Album On May 17 Posted: 16 May 2011 01:01 PM PDT On Tuesday, May 17th, "The Internet's foremost comic book rapper" Adam WarRock will release his highly anticipated follow-up EP, This Man... This Emcee!, to the critically acclaimed debut album The War For Infinity. The album features production from Dale Chase, and includes nerdcore guests Dual Core and Beefy. The upcoming album features the Free Comic Book Day single, "Marvel vs. DC," which is easily one of my favorite showings from the up and coming geek-influenced emcee. If the idea of music about comics seems cool to you, then Adam WarRock is your man. I've been a fan of his since I heard the original War Rocket Ajax theme song a couple of years ago, and he's only gotten better. Adam WarRock continues to grow as an artist with each release, and after hearing "Marvel vs. DC," it seems that this EP will be no exception, so needless to say, I'm ecstatic over this news [...] |
Video Game Review: Gears of War 3 Beta Posted: 16 May 2011 11:47 AM PDT Gears of War 3 Beta Platform: Xbox Developer: Epic Games, Inc. Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios Release date: September 20, 2011 (full product) The Gears of War series has been one where I have loved the single-player campaign; it's got lots of action and is just really fun to play. I have always felt the multiplayer lagged behind other games, especially Halo and Call of Duty. With this said, I was very anxious to try out the final game in the series, Gears of War 3, and see if they had brought their multiplayer up to snuff. Several of my gripes have been dealt with, others not so much. Hopefully they can be fixed before the final build; this is after all only the beta. Here are my long-standing complaints with Gears multiplayer and how they have been addressed [...] |
‘Superman Beyond’ Coming This Summer Posted: 16 May 2011 10:01 AM PDT Fans of the animated series Batman Beyond were given a treat in the spring of 2010 with the arrival of Superman/Batman Annual #4. Written by Paul Levitz and featuring the art of Renato Guedes, readers were greeted to not only the excited antics of the elderly Bruce Wayne and future Batman, Terry McGinnis, but we also got a glimpse into the future of Superman. Fans were ecstatic with this brave, darkened take on the character that showed Superman leaving his heroic ways after the deaths of everyone he loved, which lead to the takeover of Metropolis by an evil Lex Luthor. Flash forward to the late summer of 2011 when we will see this beloved character, referred to as "Superman Beyond," in a one-shot entitled Superman Beyond #0 written by Tom DeFalco and featuring the art of Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema on interiors with a stunning cover piece by Dustin Nguyen. Check out the cover art here at right (click for larger, full view) [...] |
Remembering Ronnie James Dio: First Anniversary Of Metal Singer’s Death Posted: 16 May 2011 07:52 AM PDT Today commemorates the first anniversary since the death of metal legend Ronnie James Dio. Diminutive in stature, mighty in voice, Dio was infectiously passionate about his music and his fans. Born Ronald James Padovano in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1942 he spent the late-'50s and '60s playing in a number of touring bands, changing his name to Dio in 1961. He worked with some of the very best metal musicians and was constantly in demand. It was in the early '70s and his work with the band Elf that bought his special voice to the attention of ex-Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore when he was setting up a new band. Rainbow was Blackmore's project, but his lead singer and co-writer quickly became the talking point. Together they released some great albums, including the stunning Rising and Long Live Rock 'n' Roll [...] |
