[On the product page, click "See price in cart" for a pop-up window that shows you the discounted price.] From the Xbox 360 product page: L.A. Noire is a gritty, single player detective game set on the infamous streets and in the smoke-filled back rooms of postwar Los Angeles. Designed and developed with a nod to the classic film noire movie genre, L.A. Major Movie Studios Deciding They Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Comic-Con Posted: 13 Jun 2011 07:55 PM PDT It would appear that something of a rebellion is underway by major movie studios who are usually expected to show off big and exciting things from their upcoming slate every year at San Diego Comic-Con. A growing number of said studios have declared that they will not be attending Comic-Con this summer, and others are still pondering whether the yearly geek mecca is worth their time and promotional efforts. The New York Times is reporting that among the studios who have decided not to show up at Comic Con this year is Warner Brothers, Walt Disney, DreamWorks, and The Weinstein Company. Even bigger might be Marvel -- likely the most expected to show up and promote The Avengers -- who is apparently still "on the fence" as to if they want to attend this summer's convention. So many big studios not showing up could be devastating to many who so look forward to the extravaganza each year, but their reasoning behind said studios making this decision is not of the nonsensical variety. DC Relaunch: September’s Green Lantern Covers Posted: 13 Jun 2011 05:23 PM PDT DC Comics released the official covers from the upcoming Green Lantern family of titles Monday, which you may have noticed were missing from their initial announcement. Although I'm not entirely sure why they withheld the covers, it is convenient that these were released the same week that the live-action Green Lantern film hits theaters. It's also a great way for us to kick-off our Green Lantern Week of Geek! In case you've forgotten, and I don't see how that's possible, these new covers and titles are a part of the relaunch initiative that DC Comics has planned for September, so if you'll be going to see the new movie this weekend, make a note of the titles that you're interested in here, because you'll be able to start fresh with the comics in the Fall. I've included the covers along with each of their solicitations, so check them out here [...] |
Tom Hanks’ Playtone Developing Six Seasons Of Neil Gaiman’s ‘American Gods’ For HBO Posted: 13 Jun 2011 04:24 PM PDT Back in April it was reported that a new series based on Neil Gaiman's hit novel, American Gods, was being developed for HBO. At the time it was unclear whether it would ever actually happen or how exactly they would go about bringing it to the small screen, but it looks like big plans are in the works for the project. New reports reveal that Tom Hanks and his Playtone Productions are now developing what's being described as an "open-ended" series for HBO, with six seasons being set up already. Each season will run 10–12 episodes—each of which will run around an hour in length—and will cost about $35-40 millions per season. Hanks will act as an executive producer along with Gary Goetzman, Bob Richardson, and Gaiman, who will also act as a writer on the series. This is an interesting move because while fans of the book are intrigued by a series about Gaiman's book, it was hard to figure out how they would make more than one or two seasons out of it, let alone six with the possibility of more. RIP Roy Skelton – Voice Of The Daleks From Classic ‘Doctor Who’ Has Died Posted: 13 Jun 2011 02:55 PM PDT Roy Skelton, who is long-remembered as the voice of the Daleks in Classic Doctor Who, has passed away at the age of 79. Skelton had his first step into acting after leaving school and joining the National Association of Boys' Club Travelling Theatre, and then eventually training at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. After a variety of parts on the BBC, Skelton became known as a voice actor, which led to his first role as the voice of the Daleks in 1967's The Evil of the Daleks, a Classic Doctor Who adventure featuring Second Doctor Patrick Troughton. Skelton continued the Dalek role in Doctor Who until 1988, and also became the voice of other enemies, including the Cybermen and the Krotons [...] |

Interview: Black Country Communion’s Glenn Hughes Posted: 13 Jun 2011 09:12 AM PDT It was over 40 years when "the voice of rock" Glenn Hughes was at the epicenter of the rock explosion from middle England. He found success with the blues rock band Trapeze and went on to join Deep Purple and Black Sabbath (on the Seventh Star album, technically a Tony Iommi solo project) and sell countless albums under his own name. He has now found yet another winning combination in his latest band Black Country Communion. He talked with me, while still in his rock star PJs, just before BCC heads out on tour. He immediately radiates cool and positive vibes. "Just letting the dog's out. What's going on, mate?" Geeks of Doom: How did Black Country Communion come together? Glenn Hughes: Joe [Bonamassa] and I were playing at the House of Blues about 18 months ago. Kevin Shirley [BCC producer] was there and he thought it was insanely good and he thought Joe and I, instead of doing a duet album, we should form a rock and roll band. The likes [of which] haven't been seen for 20, 30 years. And that's what we did. Geeks of Doom: Are you comfortable with the 'Supergroup' tag? [...] |
Deal: Back To The Future 25th Anniversary Trilogy Blu-ray For $15! Posted: 13 Jun 2011 06:58 AM PDT Right now, Amazon is running an amazing deal on the Back To The Future 25th Anniversary Trilogy on Blu-ray for only $14.99 (that's 81% off the list price of $79.98). I wrote about this sale last week when it was down to $25 and I thought that was great, but this drop down to $15 is insane and is the lowest I've ever seen this set. There's no end date listed for this sale, but the Blu-ray is currently at #1 for Bestsellers in Blu-ray on Amazon, which means supplies can (and most likely will) run out real soon, so grab this item while it's drastically discounted -- and while it's cheaper than the DVD price! The Blu-ray set contains all three movies (Part I, II, and III), along with digital copies of each film, which you can use to watch them on your computer or portable devices like an iPod or iPad [...] |
