Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones
Season One, Episode Ten – Fire & Blood

I hope everyone enjoyed the first episode of Season Two of Game of Thrones.

Confused? Let me explain.

"Fire and Blood" is in a unique position in that it feels more like the first episode of season two rather than the season one finale. The cliffhanger in "Baelor" felt more like a traditional finale, where the majority of this episode sets up our various players for the next round of the game [...]

‘Columbo’ & ‘Princess Bride’ Star Peter Falk Dies At Age 83

Posted: 24 Jun 2011 02:48 PM PDT

After a wonderful career including memorable performances on the stage and screens, big and small, the great Peter Falk passed away at his Beverly Hills home Thursday night at the age of 83. The actor had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease at the time of his passing.

Though he performed in movies and on the stage as well, it is his TV work for which he will be best remembered. Falk starred on the hit crime series, Columbo, which ran sporadically from 1971 to 2003. Only 68 episodes were produced in all—running 2 to 8 episodes per year from '71 to '78 before taking over a decade off, and then returning from '89 to '03 for a few episodes here and there—and the show was noted for revealing who committed the crimes at the very start of the show, leaving viewers to only wait and see how the crafty Columbo figures out who it is for himself.

Falk was nominated for ten Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmys for Columbo, taking home four of those awards. [...]

A Spoilerific Discussion Of The Death of Spider-Man

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #160

The Death of Spider-Man arc, as it happened in Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, is over now with this week's unnecessarily polybagged issue #160 (I read it on the iPad). If you haven't read it yet, you may want to stop now as this feature will be spoilerific. You can't discuss the story, without discussing the story. Marvel announced this event in November and as with every major comic book event, the mainstream media has already reported on the outcome just as the final issue was released.

The big two (that's Marvel and DC in case you aren't in the know) have a long tradition of killing off characters only to bring them back sometime later usually with a big to do. Most recently Marvel did this with Captain America and DC most famously did it with Superman and with The Flash and Green Lantern. It would be interesting to see one of these companies take a tentpole character and truly kill him off, never to bring him back, but of course neither of the companies can really afford to do that.

Eureka

Amongst all the Mega this and Giant that of the Syfy Saturday movies the network also has some pretty great television series. Two of those shows, Warehouse 13 and Eureka, are coming back for new seasons on July 11, 2011. To whet your appetite for the premieres we have some information about the upcoming seasons of these shows along with a couple of advance preview clips from their premieres.

Eureka is bringing on the geek goodness this season with Felicia Day (Doctor Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) joining the cast for a 7-episode story arc starting with the July 18th episode. She plays Dr. Holly Marten, a quirky Department of Defense visitor to Eureka tasked with evaluating eager candidates for a special mission that has been given to Global Dynamics and will pit the town's scientists against one another [...]
