Warner Brothers Still Plans To Make More ‘Green Lantern’ Movies Despite Poor Box Office Numbers Posted: 27 Jun 2011 08:27 PM PDT Nothing is officially greenlit yet, but sources are saying that Warner Brothers is still planning to continue on with their Green Lantern franchise even though the movie hasn't quite lived up to the massive amounts of money put into making and marketing it. The DC Comics superhero flick, which stars Ryan Reynolds in the lead, cost WB around $200 million to make, and so far has only made $118 million worldwide in two weeks of release. Adding salt to the wound, the price tag doesn't even include said marketing fees, which are reportedly some of the highest ever paid to promote a movie. Many who saw the endless TV spots and trailers for Green Lantern, a large chunk of those marketing costs, responded very negatively to the CGI effects, which did look pretty cartoony. And so spending so much to get the movie to as many eyes as possible may have ultimately hurt its success more than it helped. [...] |
G4 To Pay Tribute To ‘Jackass’ Star Ryan Dunn Before ‘Proving Ground’ Returns Posted: 27 Jun 2011 06:02 PM PDT Before he was killed in a terrible car accident a week ago, Jackass star Ryan Dunn had just made his debut on G4 in the new show Proving Ground with co-host Jessica Chobot. In the wake of his untimely death, it was decided to put the rest of the show's episodes on hold. Now G4 has announced that they will air a special hour–long tribute to Dunn on Attack of the Show that will air on July 19th at 7pm EST. In the tribute some of Dunn's memorable moments will be shown, accompanied by interviews with his friends, family, and colleagues. After the special tribute concludes, Proving Ground will resume airing the 9–episode season in its original time slot of 8pm EST. In the show, the two hosts take popular video games and movies like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Mario Kart, and The Goonies and see if they can recreate them in real life with the help of many experts, prop masters, and perhaps an unlucky producer or two. Watch Now: ‘Boardwalk Empire’ Season 2 Teaser Trailer Posted: 27 Jun 2011 02:03 PM PDT The first season of HBO's Game of Thrones came and went so quickly it almost feels like we're still waiting for its arrival, meaning the wait for season 2 will be a long and painful one. But thankfully for those of us who look to the cable network's programming to find the best shows on TV, that's not the only series they have. Their Southern Gothic vampire drama, True Blood, started back up last night to the delight of many, and the return of their 1920s prohibition drama, Boardwalk Empire, sits in the not–so–distant future. With shows like this the wait for new seasons to arrive is much less painful, and if HBO added one or two more of this caliber to their lineup (say an American Gods, perhaps) we might just be spoiled rotten year–round. Speaking of Boardwalk Empire, HBO has unveiled the first teaser trailer for season 2 of the hit show. And as you might have expected, it's looking to be a wild and intense ride as everyone scrambles to get their pieces into place. You can see the trailer below now! [...] |

Posted: 27 Jun 2011 08:45 AM PDT Cars 2 Directed by John Lasseter Starring (voices): Larry the Cable Guy, Owen Wilson, Michael Caine, Emily Mortimer, John Turturro, Eddie Izzard Release Date: June 24, 2011 Any human aspect or human presence cannot be located in the original Cars or in Pixar's latest film Cars 2. This is the films' biggest set back. We who have become transfixed by the genius behind the films of Pixar (which is celebrating 25 years of studio existence this year) remember all too vividly the ruthless food critic, Anton Ego, of Ratatouille swallowing a bit of ratatouille and immediately becoming reacquainted with a childhood he had seemingly forgotten. And who can forget Andy's feeling of anguish and the sad grimace that takes over his face in Toy Story 3 when he finally figures out that he needs to give away his toys. Almost all of the successful Pixar films have an unbreakable relationship with all things human. Cars 2 veers from that ostensibly perfect trajectory to embrace a world where no existence of human life has ever been documented. This all sounds a tad bleak, but that is the world we are thrust into with the Cars' films [...] |
