Ryan Reynolds has been chosen to play the ring-bearing superhero. The studio picked Reynolds over Chris Pine, Sam Worthington, Jared Leto, Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake, and Brian Austin Green. The Canadian actor has previously played a comic book character in movies like Blade: Trinity, and X-Men: Origins, and will also soon appear in Deadpool and R.I.P.D. In the film, Reynolds will be playing Hal Jordan, a cocky test pilot of the US Air Force. He was then chosen to be part of the elite group called the Green Lantern Corps, who have sworn duty to protect the whole universe. Tim Robbins has signed on to play US Senator Robert Hammond, the father of Dr. Hector, while Angela Bassett will be playing a former congressional aide and government agent Dr. Amanda Waller.

The movie is directed by Martin Campbell, who is best known for directing the James Bond movies GoldenEye and Casino Royale. The film is set to hit theaters this June 17.
