‘Star Trek’ Writer Says Upcoming Video Game Will Be ‘Canon’

Posted: 05 Jul 2011 08:14 PM PDT

Last month during the E3 convention, we reported that the upcoming Star Trek video game would bridge the gap between J.J. Abrams' 2009 cinematic reboot and its planned sequel, scheduled for theatrical release in 2012.

Now, Star Trek screenwriter Roberto Orci, who's been consulting on the game's development, has stated that he feels the game's storyline will be part of franchise canon.

True fans will tell you that canon is only what's filmed. I'm not an authority on what is canon. However, I will tell you that this may be the first game that falls within the parameters of the people who are in charge of canon for now; the "supreme court," as we call ourselves because we are the ones in charge of Star Trek for now. We won't be in charge forever, but for right now we're deciding what canon is, so I can tell you this is the first time where the game itself is generated by the people who are deciding canon and we generated the game to fit within canon.

I always loved that Star Trek had a very rich and continuous canon, that's one of the reasons why Alex and I and Damon and J. J. even though it's not our responsibility, and we don't care what we get paid for it, we want to help make the games, the comics; we want consistency. We do it because we love Star Trek.

Starz Decides Not To Renew ‘Camelot’ For Season 2

Posted: 05 Jul 2011 06:45 PM PDT

This news was reported last week, but if 4th of July festivities kept you a bit out of the loop, Starz announced that they wouldn't be renewing their original series, Camelot, for a second season.

The reasoning behind the decision is a mixture of things not working out, but the ratings don't appear to be one of them...at least not primarily. After scoring big numbers in its premiere, ratings did dwindle a bit, but the last few episodes of the first season made an impressive showing and the finale brought in 1.5 million viewers to finish very strong.

One of the reasons the show has been canceled, however, is said to be scheduling conflicts with some of the actors in the cast, which included some top–tier talent like Eva Green and Joseph Fiennes.

For me personally, the show was tough to latch onto. I watched about half of the first season (mostly On Demand) before losing track, swept away by instantly compelling and instantly gratifying shows like Game of Thrones. [...]

Comedy Central Announces Roast Of Charlie Sheen; To Air After Ashton Kutcher’s First ‘Two And A Half Men’

Posted: 05 Jul 2011 02:48 PM PDT

It shouldn't be all that surprising to see, but Charlie Sheen is prepared and ready to get roasted with the announcement of The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen.

The network announced that the roast will be filmed on September 10, and will air on September 19—the very same night that Ashton Kutcher, who was chosen to replace Sheen on Two and a Half Men, makes his debut on the show. Kutcher's first run on Two and a Half Men airs at 9pm EST, while Sheen's roast will hit at 10pm.

Of the announcement, Sheen said "You could say I've been providing kindling for this roast for a while. It's time to light it up. It's going to be epic." And he would be right. It should be...interesting, to say the least. Comedy Central's head of programming, Kent Alterman, added "Charlie has assured us that nothing will be off limits in this roast...which scares even us." New ‘Fright Night’ Posters Showcases Characters

David Tennant

The remake of Fright Night is right around the corner, to be released on August 19, 2011, and stars Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Imogen Poots, and David Tennant. With the countdown on, the studio has released some new international posters, focusing on the main characters, which you can see at the bottom of this post.

I'm looking forward to seeing this flick, but like I've mentioned in a few previous posts, when it comes to remakes it always counts to be cautious. Best approach this one with a "not sure if want" attitude, folks.

Having said that, however, the trailers thus far have looked impressive; and in addition we get to see Doctor Who's David Tennant on the big screen again. I know there's a lot of Who fans out there that are anticipating this film simply because of Tennant's role - and it could potentially be a bit of a springboard for the actor into some future bigger roles.

Here's hoping so, anyway. Enjoy the posters [...]

Comic Review: Snarked #0

Snarked

Snarked #0
Written & Drawn by Roger Langridge
Cover by Roger Langridge
Price: $1.00
BOOM! Studios
Release date: August 2011

If the Eisner awards for comics still had the "Talent Deserving of Wider Recognition" category, Roger Langridge would be a shoe-in to win this year. His runs on The Muppet Show comic for BOOM! Studios and The Mighty Thor for Marvel were well loved by critics and the people who actually read it, but sold in pretty small numbers. Langridge is back with a new series, Snarked, also from BOOM! Judging from the preview issue, Snarked #0, it is another series that deserves a bigger audience than it may reach.

Snarked centers on two characters, Wilberforce J Walrus and Clyde McDunk, also known as the Carpenter. If you're familiar with Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass, you may recognize the names of those characters. Snarked takes the characters from Carroll's poem, and puts them in their own little universe. In this introductory issue, we meet the two main characters and get a good sense of their personalities. Walrus is a grifter, a cheat, a smooth talker, and a layabout. The Carpenter is stupid. He is a dupe, a rube, and a simpleton. There is a Laurel and Hardy feel to their relationship that is perfectly expressed within the first few pages. We've all read these types of characters before, but there is still humor to be mined from them by a skilled writer [...]
