Watch Now: ‘The Hobbit’ Production Video #2 Posted: 09 Jul 2011 06:02 AM PDT Director Peter Jackson has posted to his Facebook page the second production video blog from the set of The Hobbit movies in New Zealand. This new video blog was shot at the end of the first block of filming just as many of the cast and crew were going off on break until September, so there's interview footage of everyone saying what they are going to do during this time off. As you'll see, Jackson will only be stepping back from directing, as he still has to do script rewrites, video editing, and location scouting, as well as other responsibilities. The video shows some of the beautiful locations they are looking into using, as well as new sets. There's also some behind-the-scenes footage from the film, including Andy Serkis doing a motion-capture scene as Gollum (Serkis is also a second-unit director on the film), as well as a snippet of a scene with Bilbo (Martin Freeman) and Elrond (Hugo Weaving) [...] |

‘Space Invaders’ Is The Next Classic Game To Get A Movie Treatment Posted: 08 Jul 2011 03:34 PM PDT Unless you've been hibernating for the last decade or two, you know that Hollywood will make a movie based on pretty much any video game, toy, or theme park ride. It's something that we've grown used to over the years, and sometimes the movies actually end up being a lot of fun. The next classic game to get the movie treatment is one that any game fan born before 1990 has most likely played at least once in their lifetime: Space Invaders. The arcade game comes from designer Tomohiro Nishikado, and was first released by Japanese company Taito Corporation in 1978, and then in the United States through Midway Games. Because it's an arcade game, there's not a whole lot of story going on here. This isn't a movie that writes itself...not in the least. That leaves producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Gigi Pritzker of Odd Lot Entertainment—who joined forces to option the rights to and develop the movie adaptation together—currently seeking the perfect writer to structure a story out of the property. Book Review: The Astounding, The Amazing, and The Unknown Posted: 08 Jul 2011 01:30 PM PDT The Astounding, The Amazing, and The Unknown By Paul Malmont Hardcover | Kindle Simon & Schuster Release date: July 5, 2011 The Astounding, The Amazing, And The Unknown is a vibrant, highly suspenseful race to solve a Nikola Tesla mystery, defeat the Nazis, and help end World War II. In a desperate attempt to make that happen, the U.S. Navy forms a team of some of the best and brightest imaginations from the world of popular science fiction pulp magazines of their time. The team includes Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Walter Gibson (of The Shadow fame), and a pre-Scientology L. Ron Hubbard, all of whom were regular contributors to the pulps named in the title of this book. Using equal parts imagination and scientific research, the team attempts to accomplish their government-mandated goal of thwarting the enemy by creating death rays and invisibility cloaks for naval ships. In the midst of their research, the group stumbles upon an unconfirmed experiment of Tesla's that may have either led to free electricity across America or a super-bomb capable of completely obliterating a whole country half a world away, as well as an old rivalry between two scientists that may have led to murder. It's up to the team to sort out the mystery and complete Tesla's experiment before the military shuts down the project altogether or someone else shuts them up permanently [...] |
