Watch Now: Stephen Colbert Straightens Out Congress On ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Posted: 30 Jul 2011 12:31 AM PDT There's no greater Lord of the Rings fan than Stephen Colbert, host of the most awesomest television show, The Colbert Report. So, it's almost as if Congress was begging for a segment on his show when they recently referenced Lord of the Rings in comparison to the current debit crisis. Watch the 4-minute segment here below from The Colbert Report, where the host tries to straighten out the Lord of the Rings analogies. This latest incident was sparked by Sen. John McCain, who read from a Wall Street Journal editorial that referred the Tea Party members as "hobbits," stating that "...the Tea Party hobbits could return to Middle Earth having defeated Mordor," in regards to the Republicans refusal to raise the debt ceiling [...] |

Will HBO Go The Distance With ‘Game Of Thrones’? Posted: 29 Jul 2011 06:43 PM PDT The first season of the HBO series Game Of Thrones was a great success. Now that the debut season is over, fans are wondering what HBO has planned for the hit series. Will each season be based on one book of George R.R. Martin's Song Of Ice and Fire novel series? Will HBO adapt all of Martin's current and future novels in the series? And more importantly, will HBO cancel the series before its time? HBO Co-President Richard Plepler and HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo fielded these types of questions this week at a press conference with the Television Critics Association. According to HitFix, Lombardo said at the conference, "I can promise you that we won't stop it before it's ready to stop" with Plepler stating, "We told George [R.R. Martin] we'd go as long as he kept writing." Maybe Plepler thinks they show will go as long as Martin writes, but Lombardo is clearly more guarded about the situation. You can read a lot into his words -- who decides when it's "ready to stop"? [...] |

At the bottom is a Superboy Clone Map and an area for the Fifth Dimension [...] |
Watch Now: Red Band ‘Drive’ Trailer Posted: 29 Jul 2011 02:23 PM PDT Back in May during the Cannes Film Festival one of the movies that was in competition showed up on my radar: Drive, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn from the novel by James Sallis. The film went on to win the Best Director award for Refn, the Denmark-born filmmaker whose credits include the Pusher trilogy, Bronson, and Valhalla Rising. Last week the first trailer for Drive was released following the film's panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. You can watch the trailer here below. Be warned though; it's a red band trailer. The plot follows a Hollywood stunt driver (Ryan Gosling) who moonlights as a "wheelman," a getaway driver for various criminals. His double life gets compromised when he becomes involved with a woman (Carey Mulligan) and her ex-con husband (Oscar Issac) and finds himself running for his life from a crime boss (Albert Brooks) and his associate (Ron Perlman). Christina Hendricks and Bryan Cranston co-star and Oscar-nominated writer Hossein Amini (The Wings of the Dove) adapted the screenplay. The film also features heavyweight behind-the-camera talent like cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel (Three Kings, The Usual Suspects) and music composer Cliff Martinez (Narc) [...] |

John Romita’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Next In Artist’s Edition Series Posted: 29 Jul 2011 11:39 AM PDT If you thought IDW was done announcing new books in their Artist's Edition line, you'd be wrong. IDW announced the next book in the line and it is going to be John Romita's The Amazing Spider-Man. This will mark the second time that IDW has reprinted material originally from Marvel, following up on the recently released Walt Simonson's Thor. The volume will feature 144 pages reproduced directly from Romita's original art, in stunning oversized quality. This news comes hot on the heels of last week's announcement of the Wally Wood's EC Stories Artist's Edition, and according to IDW, there is still one more Artist's Edition yet to be announced. The Wally Wood volume will be released in October, with the John Romita Volume following in 2012 [...] |
‘Star Trek’ To Team Up With ‘The Legion of Superheroes’ In New Comic Book Series Posted: 29 Jul 2011 07:55 AM PDT This Fall, the legendary crew members of Star Trek will boldly go where they've never gone before -- to the DC Universe. In IDW's first ever crossover with DC Comics, the characters of Star Trek and The Legion of Superheroes will meet in Star Trek/Legion of Superheroes. The story takes place in an alternate universe where the Legionnaires and the crew of The Starship Enterprise both land in a world that is not their intended destination, and what they are greeted with is less than welcoming. The two groups will have to team up to save their universes against Borgs, Klingons, and Khunds so that they can find their way back home [...] |
