Balance is a challenging mouse-based physics game Posted: 01 Jul 2011 07:52 AM PDT Years of computer use have taught us that the mouse cursor is “above” the windows. It doesn’t push anything around; at least not without you clicking anything. Balance takes that ingrained bit of knowledge and cancels it out. Suddenly your cursor (a blue dot) is solid – and if it touches the blue block, it pushes it around. Your job is to use your cursor to nudge the blue block over to the orange block. You will have to push it, lift it and even flip it on its side, and then balance it. It’s a very tricky game – one I wouldn’t recommend tackling with a laptop trackpad. Still, if you have a mouse and a hankering for a little physics gameplay, this is a cute little game. I like how the blue block never stops smiling, it makes me feel better about the world. YouTube Live now streaming select partners in real time Posted: 01 Jul 2011 05:52 AM PDT Not content with limiting its dominance in streaming uploaded videos, YouTube is now ready to take on competitors like Justin.TV and Ustream. The new YouTube Live service is being rolled out to select YouTube partners and will enable real-time broadcasting. In its official announcement, Google states that “The goal is to provide thousands of partners with the capability to live stream from their channels in the months ahead.” You can check out live broadcasts at http://www.youtube.com/live, where you’ll also find a schedule of upcoming episodes from beta partners like Revision3 and Destructoid. You’re also able to subscribe to YouTube Live broadcasts — which will ensure you’re notified when a new episode is coming up. RIM Responds to ‘Open Letter’ Criticisms with More Nonsensical Business Jargon [Smartphones] Posted: 01 Jul 2011 03:52 AM PDT Why is it that RIM, when faced with legitimate criticisms about the state of its company, can only spit out garbled bullshit in response? The latest example lies within their retort to an open letter from a supposed senior-level RIM employee. More »

Vanquish Hotdogs and Marshmallows with the BBQ Sword Posted: 01 Jul 2011 01:52 AM PDT I’m not sure if it’s due to the fact that I’ve been watching Game of Thrones on HBO, but I couldn’t help but smile when I saw the Swashbuckling BBQ Sword on ThinkGeek. This cleverly shaped cooking skewer will be the envy of your buddies at your next cookout. It’s 19″ long, made of heavy [...] Source: http://the-gadgeteer.com/2011/06/28/vanquish-hotdogs-and-marshmallows-with-the-bbq-sword/ |
Google toeing the photo-sharing waters with Pool Party Posted: 30 Jun 2011 11:52 PM PDT Google has been rolling out an array of new services this week, most recently being their social effort, called Google+. Now it is rumored that they’ve been developing a photo sharing service named Pool Party. Android has long lacked a photo sharing app that has been able to grab the masses like Instagram does on iOS. Lightbox is the most recent app to come around and is the one most likely to fill that void. However, if these rumors about Pool Party are correct, a photo sharing app from Google will likely have incredible traction. Here is what is known about Pool Party thus far:
While it is available in the Market and will download to your device, you won’t be able to sign up without an email "approved" by the developers; that is, have an invitation from someone who is already a user. Much is still unknown about Pool Party, but the concept of a photo sharing app developed by Google is extremely intriguing and one that I would love to try out. The link to the app after the break. But unless you’re in on the beta, you’ll be left high and dry. Source: TechCrunch
