To Produce 84th Oscars Ceremony, The Academy Chooses … ‘Rush Hour’ Director Brett Ratner?! Posted: 04 Aug 2011 10:06 PM PDT No, ladies and gentlemen, that is not an inaccurate headline. Tom Sherak, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President, has chosen Don Mischer and Brett Ratner to producer their 84th Academy Awards telecast. Mischer produced last year, but this will, obviously, be the first time that Ratner will have taken on the job. Ratner, of course, is best known as the director behind the Rush Hour movies, Red Dragon, and X–Men: The Last Stand. Sherak explained his questionable decision, saying "I was so impressed with Brett when I met with him to discuss the Oscar show. He has an incredible love of film and its history and is a true student of the business of movies. He's unbelievably creative and knows how to take risks that are both interesting and inspiring. Together with Don Mischer – who, by the way, just earned an Emmy nomination for his work on the 83rd Academy Awards – I think these two will give us a fantastic Oscar show that you won't want to miss." ‘Heroes’ Star Zachary Quinto To Produce Horror Title ‘The Banshee Chapter’ Posted: 04 Aug 2011 06:22 PM PDT Zachary Quinto, star of the once–popular–but–now–canceled Heroes and J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, and his production company, Before The Door Pictures, have announced that they are partnering with Sunchaser Entertainment and German producer Christian Arnold-Beutel to produce the horror title, The Banshee Chapter. The movie is described as centering on a "young, female journalist who follows the mysterious trail of a missing friend who had been experimenting with mind-altering chemicals developed in secret government drug tests. A fast-paced blend of fact and fiction, the film is based on real documents, actual test subject testimony, and uncovered secrets about programs run by the CIA." Blair Erickson penned the screenplay for The Banshee Chapter, and will be making his feature film directorial debut on the film. Of the announcement, Quinto said "We are excited to branch out in our storytelling. We've produced a movie about the financial crash and an innovative, grounded romantic comedy. The Banshee Chapter is an opportunity for us to tackle another film with its roots in reality, but through the lens of horror." [...] |
Do You Want To See A ‘Say Anything’ Sequel? Director Cameron Crowe Might… Posted: 04 Aug 2011 04:29 PM PDT Say Anything... is one of the quintessential films of the '80s. It starred John Cusack as an unambitious kickboxer, unsure of what he wants to do with his life after graduating high school, who falls in love with the smart and focused valedictorian of his class (played by Ione Skye), whose father very much disapproves of her mutual interest in him. But would you ever expect to or even want to see a sequel to the popular movie? It appears as though some would, and one of them could be writer and director Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous, Jerry Maguire). When asked about the possibility of a Say Anything... sequel, Crowe said "It's the only thing that I've written that I would consider doing that with. I've thought about it from time to time and talked about it with John Cusack once and just said this is the only story that I kind of think there might be another chapter to that at some point." ‘Ghost Rider’ Director Mark Steven Johnson Still Finding Work; Helming ‘Autobahn’ Posted: 04 Aug 2011 03:32 PM PDT It's not rare for a filmmaker to somehow find work even after failing to make a critically adored film. Mark Steven Johnson is that very filmmaker. Best known for helming films like Daredevil and of course, the masterpiece known as Ghost Rider, Johnson is the poster boy for directors making the film world a lot less interesting. And now, according to Heat Vision, he's got a brand new project. The outlet reports that Johnson will helm the new thriller, Autobahn, for Inferno Entertainment. The script is penned by Greg Russo, and follows the story of "a washed-up ex-Formula One driver who wakes up trapped inside a BMW on the side of the Autobahn, Germany's famed high-speed roadway, which has no general speed limit. He answers a phone ringing in the glove box, only to be told that he has 90 minutes to deliver the bomb-rigged car to a target or his wife and daughter will be killed." [...] |
For J.J. Abrams, ‘Star Trek’ Characters Come Before A Release Date Posted: 04 Aug 2011 01:26 PM PDT If there is one thing J.J. Abrams is apparently really damn good at, it's putting a punch back into a seemingly stale franchise. Not only did he help revive the Mission: Impossible franchise, but following in the wake of his 2009 hit Star Trek, that sci-fi franchise couldn't be more popular. But that's not getting to the director's head, as to him, nothing comes before the characters and plot for the much anticipated sequel. The director recently spoke to Collider, and revealed that nothing will be happening until he gets the characters and script all set into place [...] |
Benjamin Walker To Play Archangel Michael In ‘Paradise Lost’ Posted: 04 Aug 2011 12:33 PM PDT From Abraham Lincoln, to the Archangel Michael, actor Benjamin Walker is having one hell of a run. The star of the upcoming film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has, according to Deadline, joined the cast of the equally intriguing Paradise Lost. Director Alex Proyas revealed that Walker will join the film's star, Bradley Cooper, in Paradise Lost, which takes on the legendary Milton story that follows the battle between Michael and Cooper's Lucifer. The film shoots this January, and will have a script worked on by Stuart Hazeldine, Lawrence Kasdan, and with a recent draft from Ryan Condal [...] |
New Beavis And Butt-Head To Mock ‘The Human Centipede’ Posted: 04 Aug 2011 11:24 AM PDT The duo of Beavis and Butt-Head may be best known for making fun of various music videos, but now, with the upcoming reboot of the iconic animated series, Beavis and Butt-Head, the pair are looking to riff on something a bit, shall we say, darker. Creator Mike Judge revealed in an interview with Screen Junkies that while they may still be talking about shows on their mother station, MTV, they will also be watching movies, and one of them will be the much talked about horror flick The Human Centipede. Judge talked about the inspiration for the upcoming episode [...] |
Parts Of The Earliest Known Alfred Hitchcock Film ‘The White Shadow’ Discovered Posted: 04 Aug 2011 09:55 AM PDT The name Alfred Hitchcock is synonymous with mystery and suspense filmmaking, and even those not familiar with his work still know the name. The man is a legend, and will remain so for all eternity. So you'll understand the elation being felt at the discovery of Hitchcock's earliest of works, a film titled The White Shadow. Only three film reels of a total of six have been found so far, but the movie was first released back in 1924 when Hitchcock was only 24 years of age. He didn't direct the movie as he would go on to do with so many classics such as North by Northwest, Pyscho, Rear Window, and Vertigo—that credit went to Graham Cutts—but he did act as writer, assistant director, editor, and art director on it. The silent film pulled off something done much more often in recent times, in that it had an actor playing two roles. Actress Betty Compson (seen in the image above—head to the National Film Preservation Foundation site for more images) plays twin sisters in the film, one "angelic" while the other "without a soul." First Official Look At Henry Cavill As Superman Posted: 04 Aug 2011 07:39 AM PDT Ever since it was announced back in January that Henry Cavill would be the new Superman in Zack Snyder's franchise reboot, people have wondered what the Tudors star would look like as the Man of Steel. There have been photoshopped images of the actor in the suit, and photos of Cavill from last month's San Diego Comic-Con have been popping up with the claim that he's sporting his Superman haircut (which I think is a bit of a stretch). The wait to see Cavill don the suit is finally over, as Warner Bros. has released the first official photo of the actor in costume from Man Of Steel. Check out the full, larger photo here below. In the photo, Cavill has the classic Superman slicked-back hair (but no visible spit curl) and the suit is muted primary colors with a scaled pattern. The image appears to be an action shot of Superman -- with a very serious face -- crushing a bank vault [...] |
