TMZ is reporting that rocker Jani Lane, former singer of the band Warrant, was found dead this evening at a hotel in Los Angeles. He was 47.

The singer's body was reportedly discovered at the Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills, CA. So far, no official cause of death has been released or any further details about Lane's recent activities.

Lane was born John Kennedy Oswald in Akron, Ohio on February 1, 1964. The blond long-haired singer began fronting the hair metal band Warrant in 1986 and wrote some of their biggest hits, like 1990's "Cherry Pie," as well as "Heaven" and "Down Boys." The band enjoyed great success with their first two albums, but eventually their popularity waned and in 1993, Lane left Warrant to pursue a solo career [...]

Stephen King's 11/22/63

Filmmaker Jonathan Demme has optioned the film rights for 11/22/63, the upcoming novel by Stephen King, with plans to write, direct, and produce the feature, according to Variety.

The story centers around Jake Epping, a 35-year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who discovers a portal that allows him to travel back in time to attempt to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

King's book, 11/22/63: A Novel, is scheduled for release on November 8, 2011 (seems like a missed release-date opportunity, doesn't it?) [...]

‘The Daily Show’ Revisits The Unforgivable ‘Saving Private Ryan’ & ‘Goodfellas’ Oscar Screwjobs

Posted: 11 Aug 2011 05:36 PM PDT

While discussing the London riots on The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart and senior European correspondent John Oliver took a bit of a detour.

After mentioning how horrible the riots are and how bad European wars are in general, Oliver notes that some good has come of them as well, such as the various movies about them including Saving Private Ryan.

After declaring Ryan a Best Picture Oscar winner, Stewart corrects Oliver and informs him that Shakespeare In Love was in fact the winner that year. This hilariously sets off the two on a mini–tirade about the atrocity that not only the Saving Private Ryan upset was, but also the loss of Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas to Kevin Costner's Dances With Wolves.

Check out the video below now. [...]

Trekkie Dream Come True: A ‘Star Trek’ Theme Park Is Officially On The Way

Posted: 11 Aug 2011 04:22 PM PDT

For decades, Trekkies everywhere have surely fantasized about a special place dedicated to the world of Gene Roddenberry's legendary creation, Star Trek. A place where they could escape their own boring lives, and become their favorite Trek characters for a day or two.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, just such a place is on its way...though there's a bit of a catch that comes with it.

As it turns out, Jordan's King Abdullah II once appeared in a non–speaking role on Star Trek: Voyager while he was still a prince (you can see it here), and he remains to this day a massive, massive Trekkie. So much so that he's willing and ready to drop a chunk of the jaw–dropping $1.5 billion cost to make the theme park a reality. [...]

Frank Darabont Didn’t Leave ‘The Walking Dead’, He Was Fired

Posted: 11 Aug 2011 01:41 PM PDT

We reported a few weeks ago about Frank Darabont's stepping down from his position as showrunner on AMC's hit horror television series The Walking Dead following his appearance with the cast and crew at the San Diego Comic-Con just a few weeks ago to promote the show's upcoming second season (you can read that story HERE).

Ever since last December when The Walking Dead's completed its first successful season, which premiered last Halloween night with a viewership of 5.3 million and a season finale that drew in 6 million watchers, there have been constant reports of behind-the-scenes battles between the network and the show's producers, including rumors of mass firing of the writing staff (which were debunked by Robert Kirkman, creator of the comic book the show is based on, HERE ) and demands for budget cuts from AMC executives. Now it seems that the official story behind the decision of Darabont, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker (The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist) who developed the series for television, to suddenly leave the show is starting to show cracks in its facade [...]

It has long been out of print, as you can currently only purchase the book in the paperback or Absolute formats. So collectors, get your PayPal accounts ready. Fantastic Four

Ok, those of us following the death of Johnny Storm and the creation of the new FF knew it was all temporary. Everything pretty much is just temporary in the world of comics. Still, the gap left by the lack of the super hero comedy/drama was a substantial one to hardcore fans.

Well, Fantastic Four fans rejoice because we are a mere few months away from a return, at least in part, to the Fantastic Four we all know and love. When their story is written well, it is great fun and a nice break from the darkness of so many other current comics.

All this week, Marvel has released images teasing the next big FF story, with yesterday's image showing the return of The Human Torch [read Marvel Teases The Return Of The Human Torch To The Fantastic Four].

Now, the cover art for Fantastic Four #600 has been revealed! Check out the cover by John Romita Jr. here below and get excited for the return of the original four, or get ticked off because you're enjoying the current FF, which is actually a great story. Sound off in the comments and let us know what you think! [...]

CBS Looks To Remake Classic TV Show ‘Bewitched’; Orders Script From Sony

Posted: 11 Aug 2011 09:01 AM PDT

It's never a shock to hear someone is rebooting anything these days, so perhaps the fact that in this case it's not something that still feels new helps to soften the blow.

It's being reported that CBS is interested in remaking the classic TV sitcom Bewitched, and that they have ordered a script from Sony Pictures Television. The original show ran for eight seasons on ABC, starting in 1964 and ending in 1972.

A movie version of the show starring Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman was made in 2005, but it arrived to very poor critical (25% Rotten, 4.8 out of 10 on IMDb) and box office (budget: $85 million, worldwide gross: $131 million) response.

Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher, who produced the '05 movie, will be executive producing this potential new series for CBS through their Red Wagon Entertainment. [...]
