Hold Your Horses: ‘The Lone Ranger’ May Not Be Off The Books Just Yet

The Lone Ranger

A bit of a refresher.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Disney had decided to scrap plans surrounding a much talked about Gore Verbinski project, a new take on The Lone Ranger. Budgetary issues had been considered as the reasoning behind the project's demise. However, according to THR, that may not be the case any longer.

The outlet is reporting that Verbinski as well as the film's producers, are heading back to the drawing board, and are looking to take the scissors, for lack of a better phrase, to a collection of set pieces within the picture. Originally given a $244 million budget (for what reason, I'll never know), the studio is eyeing a $220 million or less budget for the film, which will be relatively difficult to come by, unless the right cuts are made [...]

Learn About Cut-Out Animation With Terry Gilliam

Posted: 17 Aug 2011 08:16 PM PDT

I was checking out the website Dangerous Minds earlier this week and I found this interesting clip taken from an episode of Bob Godfrey's Do-It-Yourself Animation Show, which first aired on British television back in 1974. The video is of a very young Terry Gilliam breaking down the techniques he employed as an animator on Monty Python's Flying Circus, a style of animation known as "cut-out." You can check out the full 14-minute clip below this article.

It's a nice little tutorial and the ever mirthful Gilliam in the years before he became one of cinema's most unique visionary directors makes an excellent instructor. Host Bob Godfrey sits in on the proceedings. Meanwhile, Gilliam's demonstration is intercut with clips of his animated segments from Flying Circus [...]

Billy Crystal Talks ‘Monsters, Inc. 2,’ Pixar, Working With John Goodman Again

Posted: 17 Aug 2011 05:35 PM PDT

Monsters Inc.

While at a 20th anniversary screening of his 1991 comedy western, City Slickers, Billy Crystal talked about the upcoming follow-up, Monsters, Inc. 2, which is in fact a prequel.

The movie, which is more officially titled Monsters University, follows future best buddies Mike Wazowski (Crystal) and James Sullivan (John Goodman) when they were back in college working their way towards jobs at Monsters, Incorporated. At the time, the two aren't friends but more like rivals before eventually forming the relationship we saw in the original.

Crystal's voice was going during the event, due to a 5 1/2–hour fourth recording session earlier in the day. Of the movie, he shared "I have to tell you something, it is hilarious. The Pixar people are geniuses. It's 10 years since the first movie. Yeah, it's crazy. And it's a prequel. They're in college. It's how they met, it's how Michael and Sully meet, and plan to become scarers at Monsters, Inc. — so this movie ends where the other one starts." [...]

Watch 5 New ‘Fright Night’ Clips, Including A Red Band Scene

Fright Night 2011

DreamWorks has released three brief new clips from their much-touted 3D remake of Fright Night, directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) and written by Marti Noxon (I Am Number Four), at the film's YouTube channel. EW has an exclusive clip, while IGN has an exclusive red band clip.

You can check them out below this article.

There's not much in the way of action or juicy gore on display in the YouTube videos, but in two of the clips we do get to see more of former Doctor Who star David Tennant as Peter Vincent, the reluctant vampire killer played by the late Roddy McDowall in the 1985 original. The IGN clip on the other hand features some intense action, flying dirt bikes, and a cool unbroken 360 degree interior tracking shot, while the EW clip shows what happens when a vampire comes up against a cross [...]

Guillermo del Toro Says New Game ‘inSANE’ Has H.P. Lovecraft Qualities

Posted: 17 Aug 2011 12:45 PM PDT

inSANE

Given that Universal Pictures recently denied us of another exciting Guillermo del Toro monster movie—the H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, At the Mountains of Madness—it's no great shock that the director has integrated a little Lovecraft inspiration into other projects of his.

For those who didn't know, del Toro is a geek and a gamer at heart, and he's been hard at work stepping into the realms of video games. He admittedly was clueless going in, but he's learned a lot as production on the game he's working on with THQ and Volition Inc., inSANE, has moved forward. And now del Toro shares that the game has a "Lovecraftian" quality to it, making it even more exciting than it once was.

Continue reading for more, and to see the super teaser trailer for inSANE you have not yet seen it.

Not much was known about the game other than it's being planned as a trilogy and that it's going to scare the life out of people, but del Toro added to that just a bit in a recent chat with MTV. [...]

Listen Now: ‘Game of Thrones’ Theme Song With Lyrics

Posted: 17 Aug 2011 10:59 AM PDT

Topless Robot has posted a video created by Karliene Reynolds and her collaborators at Cabinfever Production Studios inspired by the HBO series A Game of Thrones. Reynolds, with the assistance of Brian Horton, Lin Umstead, and Caleb Cox, created a new arrangement of the show's theme song "You Win or You Die," composed for the series by Ramin Djawadi, and added their own lyrics. Reynolds wrote the new lyrics and sang and performed piano on the arrangement. You can check out the video here below.

It's a very lovely arrangement of the theme and the lyrics are very fitting given the show's thematic elements. Strange, but I was expecting these lyrics to parody the show rather than honor it. Emotionally straightforward, sad, a bit hopeful at times, it's an excellent video and a great tribute to a series that's already shaping up to be another HBO classic [...]

‘Jersey Shore’ Audition Tapes For People You’d Actually Want To Watch!

Posted: 17 Aug 2011 09:40 AM PDT

South Park Jersey Shore

Fans of the unwatchable abomination that is MTV's (inexplicably) hit show, Jersey Shore, might not know this, but there were plenty of others who sent in audition tapes to be part of the show.

Unfortunately for those of us who can't stomach more than a few minutes of the show, these applicants weren't cast on the show, but their audition tapes have now leaked.

You can see the video of these auditions below now!

Conan O'Brien first showed off the video on his TBS late–night show, Conan, which shows favorites like John Lithgow (Dexter), Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), DJ Qualls (Road Trip), and Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) all reading for roles on the Shore. [...]

Daniel Radcliffe in The Woman in Black

There is no better way to shed a Harry Potter-style character than by jumping into the world of creepy, bone-chilling horror films. And that is exactly what Daniel Radcliffe has done in his latest film, The Woman In Black.

Yahoo! has released a new trailer for the film, which comes to us thanks to director James Watkins, and follows the story a young man, a lawyer, who comes to a town on the east coast of England to finalize the estate for a recently passed elderly woman. Spooky happenings follow, and it appears as though the atmosphere fits the narrative like a glove.
