Comic Review: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season Eight, Vol. 8: Last Gleaming Posted: 23 Aug 2011 03:24 PM PDT Buffy the Vampire Slayer Trade Paperback Season Eight, Volume 8: Last Gleaming Written by Joss Whedon, Jane Espenson, Scott Allie Art by Georges Jeanty, Karl Moline Dark Horse Comics Release date: June 1, 2011 The end is near! In Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight Vol. 8: Last Gleaming, Buffy, her army of vampire slayers, and the original Scooby gang face the biggest challenge of their lives. With an onslaught of demons coming to destroy the world, Buffy and her team must defeat the demonic threat while also facing the biggest betrayal in Buffy's history as a vampire slayer. I've been a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer throughout its entire 7-season television run. When creator Joss Whedon decided to continue the series in the comic book medium, I was really excited. I read most of the season 8 run, but felt that it was stretched out a bit too long. When Whedon said that Season 8 was ending with Issue #40, I wanted to see how it was going to end. I'm glad that I caught up with Season 8, because this volume is a nice wrap up that leaves a huge plot to be fleshed out in the upcoming Season 9 series [...] |
BioWare Aiming To Combine The Best Of Two Worlds For ‘Dragon Age 3′ Posted: 23 Aug 2011 02:09 PM PDT If there's one thing that Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game studio BioWare doesn't get enough credit for, it's taking what their fans say to heart, and using that feedback to try and improve future installments of their various franchises. This commendable effort doesn't always pay off, however, as was the case with Dragon Age 2, the follow–up to their awesome fantasy title, Dragon Age: Origins. While the game had a lot of positives to offer and was still a solid play, some things were just too distracting to ignore, such as a mind–boggling amount of recycled locations and a combat system that "evolved" from strategic and satisfying to an chaotic mess of button–mashing madness (if you were a warrior, anyway). When it comes to Dragon Age 3, the game isn't even officially announced yet, but that's not stopping BioWare from planning ahead and figuring how to make it the best in the series. [...] |
Comic Review: Baltimore, Vol. 1: The Plague Ships Posted: 23 Aug 2011 12:00 PM PDT Baltimore, Vol. 1: The Plague Ships Hardcover Written by Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden Art by Ben Stenbeck Dark Horse Comics Release date: June 8, 2011 In Baltimore, Vol. 1: The Plague Ships, the end of World War I brings about a plague that overruns Europe with the existence of vampires. Lord Henry Baltimore, a former soldier, dedicates his life to making these monsters extinct and searches for the one monster that ruined his life. I have to admit that I've never read a comic by Mike Mignola. I've only seen the Hellboy films and I enjoyed both of them. When I got a chance to read Baltimore: The Plague Ships, I was hesitant. The story seemed like it could be good or bad. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the book. I really liked the character of Lord Henry Baltimore. He not only has physical scars from war, but emotional scars from these vampires killing his fellow soldiers and his family [...] |
Trailer For Steampunk Noir Drama ‘Thelomeris’ Starring Mark Hamill Released Posted: 23 Aug 2011 10:50 AM PDT A new teaser trailer for the very dark upcoming steampunk/noir drama, Thelomeris, has been released online. The movie, which is directed by 28–year-old Hungarian Balazs Hatvani in his feature debut, stars Mark Hamill (Star Wars, Batman fan–favorite voice of the Joker), James Purefoy (Rome, A Knight's Tale), Lance Henriksen (Aliens, The Terminator), and DJ Qualls (Road Trip, Hustle & Flow). Continue reading to read a synopsis for the movie and check out the teaser trailer now! Here's the rather lengthy synopsis from Wiki—it's unknown if this is a 100% accurate outline, but it seems legit. SYNOPSIS Dark clouds are crowding in the sky above the endless metropolis. This is Thelomeris, the city of cogwheels and clocks. The citizens are living their lives in order to operate the clock factory and make it work as effectively as possible and create more energy for making even more clockworks. No one knows who established the city and why, or how long it has existed. Its ancient bordering walls and looming skyscrapers are reaching for the sky silently. Enormous metal cogs are working at the heart of the clock factory, as it casts dark shadows onto the city. [...] |

Geek Discussion: Will Michael Shannon’s General Zod Have A CGI Suit In ‘Man Of Steel’? Posted: 23 Aug 2011 08:27 AM PDT Some snapshots from the set of Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, Man of Steel, have found their way to the 'net, and one of the images has folks talking about a potential decision that could have fans quite angry. The images come from the Kent farmhouse set, where young Superman (Henry Cavill) was raised by Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner). In one image in particular it appears that the villain, General Zod (Michael Shannon, or his stunt double), is visiting the Kent house, and it looks like he's wearing some sort of performance capture suit, leading many to wonder if his suit will be added digitally later. This has been done once before, when it was announced that Ryan Reynolds' superhero suit would be completely CGI in Green Lantern, which was, well...frowned upon by many. Continue on below now to check out the image for yourself and share your thoughts on what might be going on, as well as your feeling if it is indeed another CGI suit–in-the–making. [...] |
