Steve Jobs Steps Down As Apple CEO; Health Concerns Increase Posted: 24 Aug 2011 08:49 PM PDT In one of the more shocking and unexpected announcements in recent memory, Steve Jobs has stepped down as CEO of Apple Inc.—the company he established in 1976 along with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne—leading many to grow worrisome of his decreasing health. Jobs has battled pancreatic cancer and other health issues over the years, one leading to a liver transplant in 2009. It's unclear whether his health issues are in fact directly responsible for his departure as the head of Apple, but he has been on medical leave since January 17, which he said was so that he could concentrate on his health. It is for this reason that those involved with Apple and its many fans and consumers are understandably worried for the well–being of Jobs. The man who stepped in as the CEO of Apple over the course of Jobs' various medical leaves, Tim Cook, has once again been named the new man in charge. Jobs, however, isn't completely stepping away from the company he's led in making many incredible technological advancements over the years, including the iPhone and iPad, both of which are the industry standard. Jobs will remain involved with the company as a chairman of the board. [...] |
Deleted Scene From ‘X-Men: First Class’ Hits Posted: 24 Aug 2011 06:01 PM PDT Ever wanted to see what Michael Fassbender would look like in drag? First, why is that something you think about? And second, now you have your wish, no matter how creepy or odd this writer may think it is. All joking aside, Entertainment Weekly has revealed a deleted scene from X-Men: First Class, which will be on the DVD and Blu-ray coming out on September 9, 2011 [...] |
Director Peter Jackson Funding Quest To Prove West Memphis Three’s Innocence, Find Real Killer Posted: 24 Aug 2011 05:14 PM PDT Just a few days ago, filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky were on hand to film a new ending for their hit HBO documentary series, Paradise Lost. The moment was was when the West Memphis Three—who had been imprisoned for almost two decades for the murders of three young boy scouts—were set free after DNA testing that didn't exist when they were convicted proved that none of them were involved. Some rather prestigious celebrity names were very supportive of the trio, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley, and their release, doing everything in their power to see justice done. They include Johnny Depp, Eddie Vedder, Henry Rollins, and Natalie Maines, as well as Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit director Peter Jackson and his partner, Fran Walsh. As it turns out, Jackson and Walsh have been helping to fund private investigations and forensics experts in hopes of proving the three men's innocence. And it doesn't end with their going free because the terms of their release still have many fuming angrily. [...] |
A Now-Slim Carrie Fisher Wants To Get Back Into The Princess Leia Metal Bikini Posted: 24 Aug 2011 03:00 PM PDT Carrie Fisher made an appearance this morning on The Today Show, where she showed off her new slim figure. The 54-year-old actress, who is best known for her portrayal of Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy, is currently a spokeperson for Jenny Craig and has lost 50 lbs. in 9 months on their weight loss program. While being interviewed on the morning show, Fisher talked about her weight loss, a Princess Leia strain of marijuana, and the infamous "Slave Leia" metal bikini. Of the popular garb she wore in 1983's Return Of The Jedi, Fisher told Today Show's Ann Curry, "I wanna get back in the metal bikini..." You can watch the video of Fisher's appearance here below. The Princess Leia talk begins at around the 4-minute mark [...] |
Damien Chazelle To Write ‘Last Exorcism’ Sequel Posted: 24 Aug 2011 02:00 PM PDT This sounds totally logical, because yes, when I think of a perfect name to write a new film around the world of exorcisms, I think of the same guy who penned a heartwarming indie musical like Guy And Madeline On A Park Bench. That's exactly the case, as THR is reporting that Guy And Madeline director Damien Chazelle has been tapped to write the sequel to last year's rather solid horror film, The Last Exorcism. The new film will begin production this Fall, and will follow the fall out from the first film, which followed a preacher who, with a documentary crew, gets in over their heads when a seemingly fraudulent exorcism becomes far more real than they could have expected [...] |
What Exactly Will Be Changed In The Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ Blu-ray? Posted: 24 Aug 2011 11:43 AM PDT When talking about the upcoming Star Wars Blu-ray Editions coming out in September, one has to be a bit concerned. Sure, director George Lucas has all the right in the world to go in and change what he sees fit, but to say that he's ruffled some fans' feathers is to put it shockingly light. So what exactly will be changed with this new release? Well, according to a story from The Digital Bits, things will be changed, but for the better. First off, the story mentions that the new release will include a new, all digital Yoda, during Episode One. I know that sounds awful, but there were a lot of moments during that first film where the puppet Yoda looked, for lack of a better term, odd, so it should look solid. Toss in some new work on effects some other glitches (like puppeteer's arms being visible), and an upgrade in the film's music track, and you have what sounds like a killer upgrade [...] |
True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard Joins ‘The East’ Posted: 24 Aug 2011 10:44 AM PDT Two of cinema's fasting rising stars, Alexander Skarsgard and Brit Marling, are apparently set to bring their white hot buzz together for a brand new flick. THR is reporting that the former, who stars in the HBO series True Blood, has signed on to join the upcoming thriller, The East, which would find Marling, who co-wrote the film, teaming up with her Sound Of My Voice collaborator once again, Zal Batmanglij. The film will follow "a female agent who infiltrates an eco-terrorist group." [...] |

Universal Drops Another Project, This Time It’s The ‘Ouija’ Movie Posted: 24 Aug 2011 08:01 AM PDT Universal is dump–happy lately, dropping numerous projects that they had been developing for multiple years. First was the Guillermo del Toro–directed H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, At the Mountains of Madness, which was followed by Ron Howard's The Dark Tower, the insanely big three–film and two–season TV series adaptation of Stephen King's book series of the same name. The studio also dumped two of its Hasbro board game movie projects not too long ago in Clue, which is being developed by Gore Verbinski, and Monopoly, which was being set up with Ridley Scott attached as a potential director. Now comes word that Universal has dropped yet another Hasbro board game project, Ouija, based of course on the popular game where kids pretend they can communicate with the dead. The Ouija movie is being developed by Michael Bay and his production company, Platinum Dunes, with Terminator Salvation director McG attached to helm the flick. [...] |
Must See: Live-Action ‘Portal’ Short Film ‘No Escape’ From ‘Totally Rad Show’ Host Dan Trachtenberg Posted: 24 Aug 2011 07:01 AM PDT A must–see new short film has come along that fans of the hit puzzle–solving game from Valve, Portal, will especially want to check out. It's titled Portal: No Escape. The short, directed by none other than Totally Rad Show host and Geeks of Doom friend, Dan Trachtenberg, is a live–action story set in the holding cells of Aperture Science, where a female captive (possibly Chell from the game?) is in an Oldboy sort of situation, being kept locked away for many days with no idea why. That is until she discovers a Handheld Portal Device in her cell, and, after a bit of testing, makes her break for freedom. Even if you've never played the games and have just a basic idea of what Portal is, this is a film that should impress you. Hell, even if you have no clue what the game is, this is a damn fine short everyone should check out once. It very much reminded me of those fantastic live–action Halo shorts that have been made. Check out Portal: No Escape below! [...] |
