Comic Book Art Blogs Worth Viewing: Robert Atkins Art Posted: 30 Aug 2011 08:12 PM PDT There are a lot of great comic book art blogs out there, beyond the deviantart pages of the world, and if you're a comic book fan, these are webpages that you should be checking out on a daily basis. This week, I'm going to highlight a few that I think are worthy of your attention or are just pages for some of my favorite artists. We start with Robert Atkins Art, the webpage for Robert Atkins, currently on the Snake Eyes ongoing from IDW, formerly of the main GI Joe series. Atkins has also done work on Amazing Spider-Man, Ultimate Fantastic Four, and others. Atkins has really stepped up his game on his webpage in the last few months, updating the site almost every day with sketches of various characters from across pop culture. He also chooses specific themes for each week, giving him a chance to stretch his muscles. What's the best part about this blog? Almost all of the sketches he posts are for sale at decent prices, so if you're a fan of original art, you have to check this out. There are several pieces on the site that I am kicking myself for not buying [...] |
The Torchwood TARDISblend 34: End Of The Road Posted: 30 Aug 2011 07:00 PM PDT Torchwood: Miracle Day reaches into exciting revelations, as Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and his Torchwood team begin discovering answers to the Miracle, stemming back almost a hundred years, and connected to his previous relationship with Angelo Colasanto (Daniele Favilli). But while the new Torchwood join forces with the CIA, Harkness unearths some surprising alien technology when they find out there is one other man who can face mortality as the rest of humanity deals with being immortal. During TARDISblend 34, we review the events of End of the Road, examining how Jack Harkness himself is at the center behind the cause of Miracle Day. Meanwhile, we examine the new character developments of Jilly Kitzinger (Lauren Ambrose), and deconstruct how Oswald Danes (Bill Pullman) could be more connected to those who caused the Miracle than we previously thought [...] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Nooooo!!! Did George Lucas Make Darth Vader Even Wimpier In The ‘Star Wars’ Blu-ray Edition? Posted: 30 Aug 2011 06:03 PM PDT It's a known fact - George Lucas cannot leave well enough alone. When it comes to his Star Wars saga, the man just can't help but go back in and fix what's not broken, over and over and over again. We've had to endure all sorts of indignities, like "Jedi Rocks," Han not shooting first, and, well, the list goes on and on, I could be here writing all day. By now, you must all know about the long-awaited Star Wars Blu-ray Editions coming out in September. Oh the excitement to finally see the saga in hi-def. As we learned last week, Lucas did dip back into the pool to do some tweaks, like the one to the Yoda Puppet in Episode I. Ok, fine, fine, I can overlook that. Now, rumor has it that another change is being made that there's no way in hell any Star Wars fan is gonna be OK with. Star Wars fan sites and forums are posting that in Return Of The Jedi in the scene where The Emperor is killing Luke with Force lightning as Darth Vader watches on, that Vader now yells, "Nooooo!!!!!!" as he lifts up the Emperor. Sound familiar? Yeah, sounds like that much-ridiculed ending of Episode III. Check out the video below of the scene, which syncs up the new audio with the existing video [...] |
Director Olivier Megaton Talks ‘Taken 2′ With Liam Neeson, Bigger Role For Maggie Grace Posted: 30 Aug 2011 05:00 PM PDT In addition to talking about how his latest film, Colombiana, began as a sequel to the 1994 Luc Besson film, The Professional, director Olivier Megaton also chatted about another sequel he has coming up in Taken 2. Megaton talked about approaching the sequel cautiously, as well as figuring out how to utilize star Liam Neeson, who even he admits was in a movie that was all too similar to Taken with the 2011 flick, Unknown. While promoting Colombiana at the Los Angeles press day, Megaton said: 'Taken' is a really difficult project because it was a big surprise for everybody. When the movie was released in France, it didn't work, and one year after in the U.S., it made a huge success. It was the same movie. So when you're making 'Taken 2,' you have to think about all of this – why it worked, and how did this movie work in the U.S. [...] |
DC Relaunch: New DC Comics (Week One) Posted: 30 Aug 2011 04:00 PM PDT As most of you may know by now, DC Comics is relaunching their entire line of comics this Fall alongside a day and date digital comics initiative. What you might not know, however, is that it all starts this week with the releases of the last issue of DC's summer event Flashpoint, and the beginning of the new universe with Justice League #1. There's a lot of books to look forward to in these upcoming weeks, as well as plenty that you'll probably want to stay away from for varying reasons. So, in the order of kindness and assignments from my editor, I will be breaking down each title with their creators, what they're about, and what you can expect from each of the new books. And, guess what? I'm not in love with a lot of the decisions that they've made, so this should be fun! Every Tuesday through the end of September, I will be writing another installment so you know when you can get yourself to the store, or to your mobile app, and purchase your new #1 from DC Comics! Also, it's worth noting, dear reader, that since you're coming to the game a little late, you can't be guaranteed an issue at the comic book store, so call ahead to see if they have it. Or if you go the store and they don't have any copies left of these DC books, you could always buy an indie comic like Invincible, Locke and Key, The Sixth Gun, and Skullkickers, which all come out this week, coincidentally. There's more to comics than just superheroes from DC and Marvel, you know? But that's probably why you're here, and now that I've gotten the indie comics alternative plug out of the way, let's talk about the universe that I'd rather live in, the DC Universe! [...] |
Ti West Working On A New Werewolf Film? Posted: 30 Aug 2011 03:02 PM PDT While his latest film, The Innkeepers may not have been the best horror film to follow up his masterpiece House Of The Devil with, Ti West appears to be on the hunt for some new projects. HeyUGuys reports that not only does West have a new film, a space project The Side Effects in the works, but he's also setting up a yet-to-be-titled werewolf picture [...] |
ABC Picks Up Western From Ronald D. Moore Posted: 30 Aug 2011 02:01 PM PDT Still upset by the departure of Battlestar Galactica? Well, while it's not on its way back, showrunner Ronald D. Moore sure as hell is. Deadline is reporting that ABC has picked up a new series from Moore, entitled Hangtown. A western, the series is created by Moore and his Caprica writer Matt Roberts. The series [...] |
Is ‘Bond 23′ Now ‘Carte Blanche’? Posted: 30 Aug 2011 01:05 PM PDT Who said investigative reporting is dead? Okay, so maybe this isn't what one thinks of when those two words are put together, but when it comes to film reporting, this is about all we can get. Bleeding Cool has gone out of their way to report that, while it's a rumor by definition, they believe the title of the upcoming 23rd James Bond feature is actually set to be Carte Blanche. Ranging from a Serbian paper chatting with cellist Jelena Mihailovic (who is penning the opening score for the film) who said that she would be working on the film, to the fact that the 37th Bond novel has just been released in June under the title, and finally, with reports saying that production was looking for a large train sequence (the novel follows Bond trying to stop a train from reaching its destination), it appears this may be the case [...] |
Clooney Out Of Soderbergh’s ‘Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ Posted: 30 Aug 2011 12:11 PM PDT - Normally it's not news when an actor isn't a part of a project, but when it involves the relationship between both George Clooney and his director BFF Steven Soderbergh, it makes your head turn. Deadline is reporting that, while he's been attached to the film since pretty much day one, Clooney will not star in the director's upcoming film, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Based on the 1960s TV series, the film is one that WB has been attempting to get off the ground for a while now, and is penned by Scott Z. Burns [...] |
Make This Happen! The ‘Fallout’ Inspired ‘Monopoly’ Gamers Will Probably Want Posted: 30 Aug 2011 11:00 AM PDT Monopoly is without doubt of the most popular and most recognizable board games ever created. And when it comes to the game, Hasbro has released about as many variations on it as possible—over 550 of them, ranging anywhere from Star Wars and Star Trek, to The Simpsons and Family Guy, Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean—all except one, that is. Elisabeth Redel of Germany has created her own variation of Monopoly, this one inspired by the hit video game franchise, Fallout, which is owned by Bethesda Softworks. Redel spent many hours crafting the special game for her boyfriend...who I'm very, very jealous of. Continue on over to the other side to check out some images of Redel's work. Now all we need is for Hasbro to see this and deliver a real Fallout version of Monopoly so we can all own it. That, or I need Miss Redel to make a second one for me. [...] |
Anne Hathaway Joining ‘Les Miserables’? Posted: 30 Aug 2011 10:08 AM PDT Despite what you may or may not think of actress Anne Hathaway, one thing is pretty much set in stone. The woman has a great set of pipes. Given her experience as a musical artist through various songs in various films in her canon, Hathaway has gone on to get the wheels moving on a still-gestating biopic on the life of Judy Garland, a film that she is still hoping to get made one of these days. And that's not all apparently. Broadway World is reporting that Hathaway is set to star in the upcoming musical Les Miserables [...] |
Wait, What? ‘Colombiana’ Started As A Sequel To ‘Léon: The Professional’ Posted: 30 Aug 2011 09:01 AM PDT The new Zoe Saldana action flick that hit theaters this past weekend, Colombiana, arrived to pretty mediocre box office numbers and overall critical response. But did you know the movie actually started off as a sequel to the 1994 Luc Besson–directed film, Léon: The Professional. The Professional starred Jean Reno as a quiet and reclusive mob hitman named Léon who befriends a young girl named Mathilda (Natalie Portman) after her entire family is murdered by a corrupt DEA agent with a drug problem named Stansfield (Gary Oldman). She begs Léon to teach her what he knows so she can get revenge on Stansfield for killing her four–year–old brother—the only member of her dysfunctional family she really cared about—while in return she cleans his apartment and teaches him how to read. At the Los Angeles press day for Colombiana, director Olivier Megaton revealed that it was that old foe time that prevented his movie—which is also written and produced by Besson—from becoming The Professional 2. [...] |
