Dragon*Con 2011 Video: ‘Eureka’ Star Colin Ferguson To Direct Syfy Original Movies

Geeks of Doom Invades: Dragon*Con 2011

Eureka's Colin Ferguson and Chris Gauthier

Colin Ferguson, who plays Sheriff Jack Carter on sci-fi TV show Eureka, will direct at least one future Syfy Channel original movie, the actor announced during a panel Sunday at Dragon*Con 2011.

In the past, fans have often ridiculed Syfy's made-for-TV movies, which feature hokey stories and awful dialog -- especially when compared to the network's original TV shows like Eureka.

Like the good sport he is, Ferguson also poked fun at past Syfy original movies along with the other fellow cast members on the panel, which included Wil Wheaton (Dr. Isaac Parrish), Jordan Hinson (Zoe Carter), and Chris Gauthier (Vincent) as well as the show's science consultant Kevin Robert Grazier.

Ferguson and Wheaton recited a list of story ideas for possible movies that Syfy executives rejected, like The Mexercist, Diary of Anne Frankenstein, and Manchilla (a movie about a creature that's part-man, part-chinchilla) [...]

Tenth Doctor And K9

Simply put: Doctor Who is huge at this year's giant geek gathering in Atlanta, Georgia, known as Dragon*Con.

Seriously though. The abundance of long colorful scarves, sonic screwdrivers, and dalek dresses is ridiculous and wonderful all at the same time.

Because of this (and due to the fact that I co-host Geeks of Doom's Doctor Who podcast called the TARDISblend with Greg Davies), we're presenting you with the best Whovian cosplay we found covering the convention floor [...]

Dragon*Con 2011: Quite Possibly The Best TARDIS Dress We’ve Ever Seen (Photo)

TARDIS Dress

Among all the great Doctor Who cosplayers at Dragon*Con 2011 who turn props from the TV show into elegant dresses, none of them come close to the one we spotted in the photo above.

Modeled after the Doctor's police box time machine, the TARDIS ballroom dress was created by Kelldar, who is known by frequent convention goers for her awesome costuming skills.

Kelldar said the inspiration for the dress came after getting an incorrect shade of blue -- "TARDIS Blue" as she called it -- fabric for a Marie Antoinette dress she wanted to make. Rather than ship it back, she decided to go with it [...]

CCI has announced that Wonder-Con will be leaving its home in San Francisco at the Moscone Center, which is undergoing renovations, and will now be taking place at the Anaheim Convention Center. The event will be held from March 16-18, 2012, which is interesting, as ReedPop's C2E2 is held during the same month [...]

Comics Review: Days Missing: Kestus: Vol. 2

Days Missing: Kestus, Vol. 2

Days Missing, Vol. 2: Kestus
Hardcover
Written by Phil Hester
Illustrated by David Marquez
Cover by Alex Ross
Archaia Black Label w/ Roddenberry Productions Release date: August 2, 2011
As a life-long fan of science fiction, one thing I've gotten used to is questions without answers. Whether in comics, television, or film series, the best sci-fi makes you think as much as it entertains, but can often belabor ideas to the point of exhaustion and frustration. With Roddenberry and Archaia's Days Missing, you won't find such unsatisfying storytelling. Each issue provides questions as well as answers, but leads the reader along just enough to keep you hungry for more. I felt this way before I read Days Missing: Volume Two: Kestus, and I feel the same way now.

Days Missing is a sprawling sci-fi epic that reveals as much of human history as it teaches. The series follows the life of The Steward, a being of unknown origin who has watched over Earth from the beginning of time. He longs for the greatness humanity can achieve, hoping that one day they will become his equal. To ensure their ongoing development, The Steward has helped mankind navigate catastrophes throughout history. Rather than fight their battles for them, he gives them the tools necessary for their success and folds the day around them, removing himself from the struggle. Those left behind do not remember The Steward himself, but they retain the ideas he has implanted [...]

Marvel's The Avengers

The new photos show show stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Tom Hiddleston, Scarlet Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, and more at the outdoor set in New York [...]

Watch Dick Cheney As Darth Vader On ‘The Tonight Show’

Posted: 04 Sep 2011 08:01 AM PDT

Dick Cheney As Darth Vader - The Tonight Show

Jay Leno just reminded me why only grandparents think he's hip by having former VP Dick Cheney dress up as Darth Vader for a recent segment of The Tonight Show, which you can watch here below.

Simply put, I don't think Darth Vader is quite villainous enough for old, dark Dick. If Cheney really wants to look like the villain he is, I think he should don the Penguin costume. He's already got the voice [...]
