Who Is This Grim Reaper-Looking Figure On The Set Of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’? Posted: 12 Sep 2011 09:33 PM PDT This might be absolutely nothing, but a mysterious figure all cloaked in black looking eerily similar to the Grim Reaper was spotted on the set of director Christopher Nolan's upcoming mega–sequel, The Dark Knight Rises. Not being very familiar with the Batman mythos, I can't say I have even the slightest idea who this might be—it could be a certain character in costume, it could be a secret character in hiding, or it could be some random dude who likes dressing up like the Reaper, for all we know. But while I haven't the foggiest who it might be, I know plenty of you will have ideas as to who it might be. So head on below now to check out the spy pics (be warned: they are small, low–resolution, and bunched together) and share your thoughts in the comments! [...] |
‘Hellraiser’ Remake Loses Its Creative Team Posted: 12 Sep 2011 05:41 PM PDT Despite a series of sequels that can best be described as trash, Hellraiser is still very much a beloved horror franchise, in desperate need of a new take and a new breath of fresh air. However, that bit of fresh air just got a little less interesting. Shock Til You Drop recently spoke to the pair of Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer (My Bloody Valentine, Drive Angry), who revealed that they had left their long-discussed remake, which has been in the works for just around a year now [...] |
‘The Descent’ Director Neil Marshall To Helm Season 2 Episode Of ‘Game Of Thrones’ Posted: 12 Sep 2011 04:01 PM PDT A handful of talents have been lined up to direct upcoming episodes of HBO's Game of Thrones, which is currently in production on its second season. One of said talents is popular UK director Neil Marshall, who's made such ultra–violent fare such as The Descent, Doomsday, and the more recent Centurion. And speaking of Centurion, the movie—which starred Michael Fassbender as a part of a small group of Roman soldiers who escape an attack on their legion but have to survive behind enemy lines—could prove to be useful experience for Marshall when it comes to taking on his episode of Game of Thrones. At the moment, it's unclear what the episode Marshall will direct is going to be about. Other directors lined up to captain episodes of the second season include Alan Taylor, David Nutter, Alik Sakharov, and David Petrarca. Taylor has a ton of TV experience in the past on shows like The West Wing, LOST, and Mad Men, but he's also dabbled in most of HBO's hit shows. Taylor has worked directing episodes of The Sopranos, Oz, Six Feet Under, Sex and the City, Carnivàle, Deadwood, Rome, Big Love, In Treatment, Bored to Death, Boardwalk Empire, and two episodes of the first season of Game of Thrones. See The New Spidey In His First Solo Story In ‘Ultimate Spider-Man #1′ Posted: 12 Sep 2011 02:09 PM PDT So it's finally here! The new Ultimate version of Spider-Man will debut in his own series on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 in Ultimate Spider-Man #1. We got a sneak peek at the new Spider-Man Miles Morales last month in Ultimate Comics Fallout #4. When the news hit that the new Spidey would be a half-black, half-Hispanic character, the internet was a buzzing. Now, the character has his first solo story in Ultimate Spider-Man #1, which launches a new ongoing comic book series at Marvel Comics [...] |
‘Top Gun’ Coming Back To Theaters In 3D Posted: 12 Sep 2011 01:02 PM PDT Nothing says 3D like a bunch of shirtless dudes playing volleyball. That's exactly what some people think, as, according to THR, Tony Scott's Top Gun is coming back to the big screen, and before it gets a sequel, it's getting 3D. No set release date has been announced as of yet, except a planned release for some time in 2012. The 2D to 3D conversion is being worked on by Legend 3D, the same crew behind the 3D on Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, so you know there is some sort of talent behind the conversion that will be taking place here [...] |
Watch Now: Darth Vader’s ‘Nooo!’ Re-Edited Into Classic Movies Posted: 12 Sep 2011 12:00 PM PDT The good folks over at CineWeekly have posted a new video featuring the infamous Darth Vader "Nooo!" scream from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith that was recently revealed to have been dubbed into the upcoming Blu-ray release of Return of the Jedi, but now re-edited into other classic films. You can watch the video here below. The video features select scenes from the movies like The Wizard of Oz, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Casablanca, Dumb & Dumber, The Godfather, Field of Dreams, The Empire Strikes Back, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, Reservoir Dogs, and Jurassic Park, all with the Vader yell included at inappropriate and occasionally appropriate moments [...] |
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Helming ‘Highlander’ Remake Posted: 12 Sep 2011 11:15 AM PDT How fast does it take for a remake to go from mildly intriguing to quite interesting? A matter of one single news story. With Justin Lin attached to the long talked about remake of Highlander one could definitely be interested. However, as Lin becomes something of a hot commodity in the film world, a new director is needed, and apparently, that director is none other than Juan Carlos Fresnadillo [...] |
Posted: 12 Sep 2011 11:00 AM PDT Ready Player One By Ernest Cline Hardcover | Kindle Crown Release Date: August 16, 2011 In a not so distant future, the world is in shambles. Instead of the dealing with the truth of reality, the people of this bleak world create an escape by using OASIS, a virtual reality world where you can create your perfect reality and do everyday things like going to school or meeting new people. When James Halliday, the creator of OASIS and the richest man to ever have lived, dies, it initiates a contest that Halliday leaves behind in his will. There are three keys that for whoever finds all three will win Halliday's entire fortune. The contest won't be easy to win, but protagonist Wade Watts is determined to be the victor. Ready Player One was one of the most innovative and entertaining books that I've read in a very long time. The book is truly a love letter to the era of the 1980s. With references to 80's video games, movies, and television, the book is like a geek bible to those who grew up in the 80's or is just a fan of that time period. The author, Ernest Cline (screenwriter of 2009's Fanboys), has a vast knowledge of the 1980s and it definitely shows. Cline also makes very likeable characters in the novel. Wade and his group of friends were very relatable in the book. You understand their poverty stricken world and their need to constantly escape into OASIS to make a new world for them [...] |

Comic Review: Elric: The Balance Lost #3 Posted: 12 Sep 2011 09:00 AM PDT Elric: The Balance Lost #3 Elric created by Michael Moorcock Written By Chris Roberson Art by Francesco Biagini BOOM! Studios Release Date: September 7, 2011 Cover Price: $3.99 Again I am pleased to be able to review what I consider one of the best new comics out these days. It amazes me how someone can take something so huge and make it seem even bigger. Chris Roberson manages to continue to convey a sense of vastness to this series by continuing to keep multiple storylines moving at a fast pace. You feel a sense of continuity and yet also feel as if the characters are eons and lightyears apart, which they are...probably. That's the trouble with time travel, it's hard to determine not just where you are but also when... My favorite parts of Elric: The Balance Lost #3 were the locations: New Orleans (a couple of different ones, mind you), London, and a few others that I won't spoil for you. Watching Elric, Corum, Hawkmoon, and Eric in their various timelines interacting with old and new places and people really makes this series come alive. There are so many things going on that you might find yourself going back and forth staring at the wonderful art that Francesco Biagini was kind enough to create [...] |
Posted: 12 Sep 2011 08:01 AM PDT After quietly filing out of the theater after screening Contagion, one question popped into my head: What marketing genius over at Warner Bros. decided to open a movie in which millions of [fictional] people die on THIS weekend of all the other weekends one could have picked? Though one may never get an answer, if you do choose to see Contagion, it's the scariest non-horror movie you'll see all year, and is worth the price of admission just to see so many recognizable actors bite it. Not even having an Academy Award can prevent you from a gruesome death as the cast boasts four Oscar Winners (Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow), not including Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh (Out of Sight, The Informant), along with 3 other nominees (Jude Law, Laurence Fishburne, and Winter's Bone's John Hawkes) all serving the ensemble but never overshadowing the main story. If it weren't for the mega-wattage stars highlighting which characters you should be paying attention to, the movie almost has a documentary feel, with other than the most obvious concessions that yes, you really are just watching a movie [...] |
Comic Review: Green Hornet Strikes #9 Posted: 12 Sep 2011 07:00 AM PDT Green Hornet Strikes #9 Written by Brett Matthews Art by Ariel Padilla Dynamite Entertainment Cover Price: $3.99 Release Date: September 7, 2011 Dynamite Entertainment has done a very good job with the Green Hornet license since they got it a few years back. Green Hornet Strikes #9 is the second to last issue of the story of the Green Hornet of the future. It is a different take on the characters, but it still maintains all of the classic elements that make the Green Hornet memorable. White guy in a mask? Check. Sidekick who is a master of martial arts? Check. Big car? Check and mate. It's familiar enough to feel comfortable, yet different enough to seem somewhat new and fresh. Luke lives in a future Chicago that is ravaged by financial disaster and gang warfare. Into this world, he looks to right wrongs and set his own path as the new Green Hornet. As always, The Green Hornet pretends to be a bad guy in order to bring the really bad guys to justice. By this point in Green Hornet Strikes, Luke has met the Kato of the past, and been partnered up with a new Kato. He is now ready to make his final blow against an evil corporation that has kidnapped his would-be girlfriend [...] |
