DC Relaunch: New DC Comics (Week Four) Posted: 20 Sep 2011 07:00 PM PDT As most of you may know by now, DC Comics is relaunching their entire line of comic books this Fall alongside a day and date digital comics initiative. What you might not know, however, is that it all started three weeks ago with the releases of the last issue of DC's summer event Flashpoint, and the beginning of the new universe with Justice League #1. This Wednesday is the third big week of releases and I'm picking up a lot of these books, and there are still a lot of books to look forward to in these upcoming weeks, as well as plenty that you and I will probably want to stay away from for varying reasons. So, in the order of kindness and assignments from my editor, I will be breaking down each title with their creators, what they're about, and what you can expect from each of the new books. And, guess what? I'm not in love with a lot of the decisions that they've made, so this should be fun! [...] |
Comic Review: The Guild: Clara Posted: 20 Sep 2011 06:01 PM PDT The Guild: Clara One-shot Written By Felicia Day, Kim Evey Art by Ron Chan Letters by Nate Piekos Cover by Howard Chaykin with Jesus Aburto Dark Horse Comics Release Date: September 21, 2011 Price: $3.50 One of my favorite web series out on the web is The Guild and when I found out that Dark Horse was coming out with a one-shot comic book about the characters from the show I just knew I had to read it. The Guild: Clara in particular is about Clara who is the lovable but ignorant member of the group. The story starts with an in-game meeting in the MMORPG that they play, while in the meeting Clara's husband starts getting angry with her about not cleaning up their bedroom that has all of their moving boxes from 10 months back. He gives her an ultimatum that if she doesn't clean the room by the end of the weekend, she can't play the game for a week. Clara, while cleaning the room with her kids, stumbles upon all of her keepsakes and starts telling the stories behind each one. Her husband comes home and is surprised that she has kept all of these keepsakes [...] |

Advanced TV Review: New Girl: Series Premiere Posted: 20 Sep 2011 03:00 PM PDT New Girl Series Premiere Starring Zooey Deschanel, Jake M. Johnson, Max Greenfield, Damon Wayans Jr. Written by Elizabeth Meriwether Fox Air date: Tuesday, September 20, 2011 9/8c New Girl, the new sitcom from Fox, is the best new show of the TV season. Okay, that is a pretty bold statement. I have not seen any other show from the new Fall lineup, but if the preview that I saw of the pilot episode is an indicator of how the series will play out, then those other new shows will have to have to bring their A game to the table. Right about now, I am sure you are wondering why this show is so great. Is the premise really that original? Well, no. The premise is pretty much a staple of in the landscape of TV sitcoms. A recently single girl, Jess (Zooey Deschanel), moves into an apartment with a group of guys she has nothing in common with [...] |

Comic Review: Kevin Smith’s The Bionic Man #2 Posted: 20 Sep 2011 10:14 AM PDT Kevin Smith's The Bionic Man #2 Written by Kevin Smith, Phil Hester Art By Jonathan Lau Colors by Ivan Nunes Letters by Simon Bowland Covers by Alex Ross, Jonathan Lau Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: September 21, 2011 Cover Price: $3.99 When tackling an existing property, creators throughout all mediums often find themselves in an unenviable position. They are forced to walk the line of fan expectation to honor the source material, yet their final product must also be fresh and original. This is never an easy feat, as many Hollywood scribes will tell you, but in Dynamite Entertainment's The Bionic Man, Kevin Smith, Phil Hester, and Jonathan Lau manage to not only meet expectation, but exceed it as well. The Bionic Man #2 opens strong, with Steve Austin in trouble after a catastrophic accident while testing a new fighter jet for the government. With Steve's life on the line, we get to know a little more about the villain Hull by meeting the people who gave him his bionic attributes. Hull was meant for more than his murderous ways, but as we learn by issue's end, he is not open to discussion about his path. He is a focused man with a strong agenda, and nothing will deter his will [...] |

You can see a video showing a bunch of movies—including the ones above and many more...like Raiders of the Lost Ark, very fittingly—with the Selleck 'stache added by clicking on over to the other side now.
