Posted: 25 Sep 2011 05:37 PM PDT Dead Island Xbox 360 I PS3 I PC DEVELOPER: Techland PUBLISHER: Deep Silver RELEASE DATE: September 06, 2011 Ever since the release of that incredible first cinematic trailer, fans of horror video games and the zombie sub–genre have been frothing at the mouth to get their hands on the latest title from developer Techland (Call of Juarez and its two sequels, Bound in Blood and The Cartel) and publisher Deep Silver, Dead Island. The game takes place on the island of Banoi at a beautiful vacation resort. Unfortunately, the beauty is quickly diluted by pure hell when a plague breaks out, turning most of the tourists on the island into bloodthirsty zombies and leaving you to fight to survive and try and escape the many horrors you'll encounter. But does the game live up to all the hype created by that first trailer, or does it fall a little short? First of all let me just say I never allow my anticipation levels for a game to elevate over a cinematic trailer (apart from Skyrim, perhaps). [...] |

Comic Review: Kato Origins #11 Posted: 25 Sep 2011 02:47 PM PDT Kato Origin #11 Written by Jai Nitz Pencils by Colton Worley Inks by Colton Worley Colors by Carlos Lopez Letters by Simon Bowland Covers by Colton Worley, Francesco Francavilla Dynamite Entertainment Release date: August 31, 2011 Cover Price: $3.99 I want to say upfront that I have not read the other books in the Kato Origins line. Normally this isn't that big of a hindrance when reading a single issue. There is normally a brief recap, and then plenty of information to keep you in the know. This isn't necessarily the case, and I'll get to why that is in a moment [...] |
Comic Review: Zorro Rides Again #2 Posted: 25 Sep 2011 02:02 PM PDT Zorro Rides Again #2 Written by Matt Wagner Art by Esteve Polls Colors by Oscar Manuel Martin Letters by Simon Bowland Cover by Matt Wagner Dynamite Entertainment Release date: August 31, 2011 Cover Price: $3.99 I've always found Zorro interesting, although I sometimes confuse him with the Lone Ranger. (Even though the Ranger has a sidekick and Zorro doesn't, figure that out.) Zorro Rides Again is the kind of comic book that shows why comic books get to keep the word book in their name. This book takes place in a Spanish colony, where corruption runs rampant, and the weak need to be defended, by none other than Zorro! [...] |

Interview: Cactus and Vanilla Fudge Bass Player Tim Bogert Posted: 25 Sep 2011 09:53 AM PDT When it comes to influential rock bands, not many can claim to have been a part of three of them. For Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, and Beck, Bogert & Appice, bass player Tim Bogert has been an integral part. I gave him a call at his Californian hill-top house to talk about his cocaine snorting, women chasing days in Cactus, quitting the music business to work at the Musicians Institute, and dealing with a "moody" Jeff Beck [...] |
