DreamWorks Buys Roald Dahl’s ‘The BFG’ Posted: 26 Sep 2011 08:54 PM PDT Apparently it's a big week for DreamWorks, and it's only Monday. With the animation side of the mega-studio teaming with Netflix for a new streaming deal, the studio proper is still looking to make a splash, as The Wrap is reporting that they have bought up the rights to Roald Dahl's beloved book, The BFG [...] |
Comic Review: Insurrection V3.6 #1 Posted: 26 Sep 2011 08:15 PM PDT Insurrection V3.6 #1 Written by Blake Masters, Michael Alan Nelson Art by Michael Penick Covers by Karl Richardson, Rael Lyra BOOM! Studios Release Date: September 7, 2011 Cover Price: $3.99 When it comes to comic books I love all kinds, especially science fiction books. I recently sat down and read Insurrection V3.6 #1 from BOOM Studios. Insurrection V3.6 takes place in the year 3000 and sets the backdrop that our planet has become a utopian society where crime and war is a thing of the past and peace and philosophy reign. Corporations have risen up and have taken their mining operations to other planets to ship the materials back to our planet. But on one world what would be regular mining becomes difficult because of constant conflict. One company called Glomrat uses A.I. units as security for day to day operations and to defend facilities [...] |
Comic Review: Marksmen Issues #1 and #2 Posted: 26 Sep 2011 07:34 PM PDT Marksmen, Issues #1 and #2 Written by David Baxter and Dave Elliott Art by Javier Aranda, Jessica Kholine and Garry Leach Cover by Tomm Coker Image Comics Release Dates: Issue #1, July 20, 2011; Issue #2, August 24, 2011 Cover Price: Issue #1, $1.00; Issue #2, $2.99 Today's society is so dependent on fossil fuels, it is hard to imagine a world without them. We have been trying to develop alternative fuels for years, but the vast majority of the world still depends on oil to maintain their everyday lives. Apart from the environmental implications, alternative fuels are being sought out because one day, there may not be any more oil for us to burn up. When that day comes, how we will carry on? What will happen to American culture as we know it? This is the kind of stark future depicted in Image Comics Marksmen, written by David Baxter with art by Javier Aranda, Garry Leach, and Jessica Kholine [...] |
‘Red Dawn’ Remake To Get 2012 Release Through FilmDistrict Posted: 26 Sep 2011 06:57 PM PDT Better late than never, I guess. After what seems like years and years of waiting in release purgatory, the long gestating remake of the, for some reason, beloved film Red Dawn, has found a brand new distributor to finally bring it to the public. With a digitally assisted move from Chinese to Korean baddies, the film has been the focus of more than its fair share of controversy, and itself was addled by it, thanks to a long standing bankruptcy battle involving the original studio, MGM. Now, according to the LA Times, the film will be released thanks to FilmDistrict in 2012, nearly three years after the film was originally slated to make its mark. Personally, as mentioned above, I have absolutely no appreciation or nostalgia for the first film, and with the digital alteration of the film's baddies in the back of this writer's mind, it is going to be one hell of a hill for the film to climb to being something worth watching. Must Hear! Queen Frontman Freddie Mercury Has Been Reborn Posted: 26 Sep 2011 04:40 PM PDT A new massively popular viral video is making the rounds, showing someone singing the hit Queen song "Somebody To Love," and sounding very, VERY much like the late, great Freddie Mercury while doing so. As it turns out, the man singing the song is Marc Martel, vocalist for the Canadian Christian rock band, Downhere. Fans of the band will surely already be aware of this uncanny resemblance—the band has been around for a decade already—but for the rest of us, you simply have to hear it to believe just how incredible the man's voice is. There will never be another Freddie Mercury, but just the fact that there's someone who's this close is astounding. Continue on below now to check out the video, as well as a bonus video of Martel throwing down a little "Bohemian Rhapsody." [...] |
Watch This Very Brief ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 2 Terror Teaser Trailer Posted: 26 Sep 2011 03:11 PM PDT HBO has released the first ultra–teaser trailer for season 2 of their hit fantasy series, Game of Thrones. The "Terror Tease" only runs 17 seconds and only presents something of a tagline also spoken by someone in voice over. It says only "The night is dark and full of terrors," which some of you fans of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series could be familiar with, while those who watched the first season could have hunches about what it might mean. You can check out the teaser trailer for season 2 of HBO's Game of Thrones by heading on below now. [...] |
Teaser For HBO and Michael Mann’s ‘Luck’ Hits Posted: 26 Sep 2011 02:06 PM PDT Michael Mann and horse racing. A pair not often uttered in the same breath. West, a former Frito-Lay executive, passed away in Dallas on September 20, 2011, and will be buried with the chips he created. During a graveside service set for October 1, West's family will be throwing the Doritos onto the grave before the dirt is put in [...] |
