‘Mass Effect’-Style ‘Game Of Thrones’ RPG Video Game On The Way Posted: 03 Oct 2011 06:35 PM PDT Author George R.R. Martin's wildly popular A Song of Ice and Fire book series has had fans whisking themselves off to the lands of Westeros for many years now. And with the booming first–season success of HBO's adaptation of the book, Game of Thrones, people haven't been this excited about this particular brand of fantasy in a long, long time. But what if I told you we could soon take that geekdom for the world and its characters a step further? As you may have heard, a video game company called Cyanide Studio has been working on a real–time strategy game based on Martin's mythology titled Game of Thrones: Genesis. What you may not have heard, however, is that the studio is also working on a Game of Thrones role–playing game along the same lines as Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for the PC and next–generation consoles...and that, my dear friends, is something to be very excited about. In His New Book ‘Hercules’ Star Kevin Sorbo Reveals That He Suffered From Strokes Posted: 03 Oct 2011 05:18 PM PDT Kevin Sorbo, star of the late syndicated television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Andromeda, revealed in a recent interview with Neurology Now that during his time on Hercules the actor suffered no less than three strokes. The first stroke occurred in 1997 when the 38-year-old Sorbo was promoting the film Kull the Conqueror. Sorbo recalls, "I had several doctors on my publicity tour check me out, but they didn't believe it was anything serious. I even had what seemed like a rational explanation, having recently injured my ulnar nerve—the funny bone." After two more occasions when he experienced shoulder pain, dizziness, and slurred speech Sorbo underwent a surgical procedure where an angiogram tube was used to insert platinum coils around an aneurysm in an artery near his left shoulder that had caused a severe disruption of blood flow to his lower arm. It was only after the surgery when Sorbo learned that he had suffered three strokes. [...] |
Must Watch: 4-Year-Old Kid Sees ‘Empire Strikes Back’ Ending For First Time Posted: 03 Oct 2011 04:14 PM PDT Do you remember where you were when you first watched Star Wars sequel The Empire Strikes Back and experienced its big reveal at the end? Some of you likely do and many of you probably do not, but technology has come a long way and moments such as that can now be captured for all eternity. Enter Faris, a four–year–old who recently saw the ending of Empire for the first time, captured on camera by his parents. After recording the reaction they sent the video to Harry Knowles over at AICN, who started a column that looks at we who grew up as geeks and kids today who are well on their way. The column is called "Raising Geeks." You can see the video of young Faris reacting to the end of The Empire Strikes Back by continuing on below now, and you can see more by heading to the source link. [...] |
Watch The Trailer For Guitarist Tom Morello’s Comic Book ‘Orchid’ Posted: 03 Oct 2011 03:16 PM PDT Musician and activist Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave fame has turned his incredibly talented mind to the comic book page where he is telling the story of Orchid. According to the Dark Horse Comics solicitation, Orchid is "a tale about a teenaged prostitute that who learns that she is more than the role society has imposed upon her." The rest of the solicitation goes on to build a little bit more of the dystopian future world in which Orchid takes place. It sounds like a really cool concept, and if anybody should be telling this story, Morello is that person [...] |
Watch The ‘Community’ Parody Of ‘Doctor Who’ Inspector SpaceTime Posted: 03 Oct 2011 02:12 PM PDT NBC comedy television show Community recently included a very short parody/rip-off/tribute (choose your label) to Doctor Who. The clip shows a Doctor-like character called Inspector SpaceTime, who travels through history, and includes a Dalek-like villain. You can view the video of the Inspector SpaceTime portion of the episode here at the bottom of this post [...] |
Dante Harper Penning ‘Foundation’ For Roland Emmerich Posted: 03 Oct 2011 12:55 PM PDT Coming out of TIFF this year, one film that got a shockingly good amount of buzz was director Roland Emmerich's Anonymous. Now, good buzz isn't something usually said within the same sentence as Emmerich's name, but it appears as though that may be changing. Now, according to Deadline, the director has gotten a brand new writer for one of his upcoming projects, with the hopes of continuing this good streak [...] |

‘Arrested Development’ Getting A New Limited TV Series Posted: 03 Oct 2011 10:16 AM PDT While the best television shows often die an early death, it appears as though one of the best is getting a second chance at life. As talk continues to circulate around a possible film based on Arrested Development, it looks as though the TV series is coming back, as according to EW, producers of the series are in talks with the likes of Showtime and Netflix to bring back the show for a "limited number of original episodes." DC Comics Brings Collections To Kindle Fire Posted: 03 Oct 2011 09:02 AM PDT DC Comics announced last week that they will be bringing at least 100 collected works exclusively to Amazon's brand new Kindle Fire eReader. Contrary to the thoughts in my head, the Kindle Fire is not an unfortunate malfunction of the popular eReader. It is, in fact, a brand new model that allows full-color appreciation of digital media. And with this new device's announcement, it was only a matter of time until we started seeing information about comics. The interesting thing about this, though, is that DC will be offering these 100 books exclusively to the Kindle Fire. This sounds like a really big deal as it abandons the comiXology model and the extremely iOS devices from Apple. Well, at least it sounds like it's interesting [...] |
