On The 162nd Anniversary Of Edgar Allan Poe’s Death, ‘The Raven’ Gets An Official Trailer

Posted: 07 Oct 2011 03:33 PM PDT

The Raven

On this day 162 years ago, famed author and poet Edgar Allan Poe died.

In celebration of his life and his works, as well as the upcoming new Poe movie starring John Cusack in the lead, titled The Raven, an event was held in Baltimore, Maryland including director James McTeigue (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin) and co-star Luke Evans (Immortals, Robin Hood) meeting with press and members of the Poe House and Museum.

Also in conjunction with the anniversary and event, the official trailer for The Raven has been officially released online after debuting last night on G4's Attack of the Show.

You can check out the trailer as well as some unusual facts about Poe by continuing on over to the other side now.

* Poe wrote a fabricated news story of a balloon trip across the ocean to garner attention and publicity in New York City.

* Poe was a champion for higher wages for writers and international copyright law, as his writings were continuously published without him getting credit or compensation.

First Look At Lee Bermejo’s ‘Batman: Noel’

Posted: 07 Oct 2011 02:04 PM PDT

Batman: Noel

DC Comics showcased some really cool artwork and information for the upcoming Lee Bermejo scripted and drawn Batman: Noel that is scheduled to come out later this Fall.

If you're unaware of what it is that I'm talking about, Lee Bermejo, artist on the insanely beautiful Brian Azzarello-penned Joker graphic novel, will be taking his artistic prowess and expanding on it by branching out into the writing field on his own Batman-centric original graphic novel entitled Batman: Noel. And I've gotta give it to Bermejo on this one, not only does the preview art that DC released look really pretty, the concept for the story sounds awesome [...]

In the spirit of celebrating his legacy, we bring you The Poe Twisted Anthology, a collection of graphic stories inspired by select works of the Dark Master. These are not clever retellings; the words 'rehash' and 'regurgitation' do not apply here. The thirteen authors and artists accepted the challenge to create fifteen unique graphic pieces using Poe's work as their inspiration. From the introduction by Enrica Jang: "We pay tribute, we aspire, but in the end, we paint the pictures for you." [...]

Billy Ray Writing ‘The Thin Man’ For Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow

And this project just got a whole lot more interesting.

A remake of the brilliant Thin Man, itself based off of a Dashiell Hammett novel, isn't a piece that is being clamored about too much. It's a beloved classic, and at this point, it doesn't seem like it will be done the justice it deserves. That is, until this bit of news [...]

Johnny Depp To Jump Into The Wonderful World Of Dr. Seuss

Posted: 07 Oct 2011 07:00 AM PDT

Johnny Depp & Dr. Seuss

It's being reported that Johnny Depp and his Infinitum Nihil production company have teamed with Illumination Entertainment to develop a live–action movie about beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss, for Universal Pictures. The project is being developed with the potential for Depp to star in the lead role.

Seuss, who's real name is Theodor Geisel, wrote numerous timeless classics, many of which were eventually turned into feature films. His more notable works include How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, Horton Hears a Who!, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.

There's a lot of ways a movie like this could go, of course, and producers aren't sure exactly what route they'll take yet. Depp has played Seussical (not the musical; rather fantastical, fitting to the creations of Seuss himself) roles such as the Mad Hatter and Willy Wonka, so they could tell the story of Dr. Seuss's life along with animated glimpses of his infinitely wonderful and strange creations.
