Geeks of Doom vs. New York Comic Con 2011

Unfortunately, I missed the Batman: Arkham City due to quite a few complications, but luckily my favorite editors/site owners in the world, Empress Eve and Dave3, were there and provided me with some notes and an awesome video of some recorded live gameplay footage!

You can watch 7 1/2 minutes of the gameplay footage demo'd at the panel right here below. (Yes, they played the game right at the panel; it's not a pre-recorded demo, it's all new!) [...]

The power players from DC Entertainment's Animated Universe hit the stage at New York Comic-Con this weekend to discuss some of their upcoming projects including Batman: Year One, the Catwoman animated short, and Justice League: Doom.

The panelists on stage for the discussion were voice casting director Andrea Romano, Bruce Timm, and Batman himself, Kevin Conroy, who was a surprise panelist (Conroy had been in the IGN Theater early in the day for the panel for Batman: Arkham Asylum, in which he also voices Batman) [...]

NYCC 2011: Preview Night: Awesome Ruby Rhod (Fifth Element) cosplay

Ahh, New York Comic-Con is here again. Or as I like to call it 'OMG! I wanna buy everything I see. Please stop me! Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie noooowww!... What's that smell?'

Yes, it is indeed that time of the year and the GoDs and I are here covering this east coast comic geek mecca all weekend. Last night was preview night and Henchman21, MK2Fac3, and I were there on the Convention floor getting the lay of the land, picking up some choice items, and snapping a few pictures of the booths and anything that catches the eye.

I took a whole bunch of photos from Preview Night of cosplayers, booths, and cool items being offered up at the Con. Check them out here below [...]

‘X-Men: First Class’ Writers Chosen To Pen ‘Top Gun’ Sequel

Posted: 14 Oct 2011 04:42 PM PDT

Top Gun

Paramount Pictures along with Skydance Productions is moving forward with their planned sequel to the 1986 action hit, Top Gun, which starred Tom Cruise as a cocky and talented young fighter pilot.

It's being reported that Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have been chosen to write the screenplay for the planned sequel, and that the duo are currently in negotiations on a deal.

Miller and Stentz have recently made splashes in the comic book movie relams, penning the scripts for both Thor and X–Men: First Class for Marvel. They've also worked together as writers and producers on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Fringe.

It's not yet known exactly where the sequel will go in terms of story and as a continuation of the original movie, nor is it known whether Tony Scott, who directed the first, or Cruise will be coming back in some capacity or not. [...]

Hulu Has A Change Of Heart, Decides Not To Sell Company

Posted: 14 Oct 2011 03:00 PM PDT

Hulu

Since June, Hulu has been listening to offers from various interested parties who might want to purchase the popular TV and movie–watching service, but it appears that they've had a change of heart.

In a joint announcement from Hulu and its owners, News Corporation, Providence Equity Partners, and The Walt Disney Company have announced that won't be selling Hulu, and that they will now continue to focus on improving and evolving the service.

The short statement made read "Since Hulu holds a unique and compelling strategic value to each of its owners, we have terminated the sale process and look forward to working together to continue mapping out its path to even greater success. Our focus now rests solely on ensuring that our efforts as owners contribute in a meaningful way to the exciting future that lies ahead for Hulu."

A reason for why the group of owners decided to put a stop on the sale process is not yet known, but it's assumed that the offers they were receiving weren't exactly as high as they were hoping they would be. [...]

Watch Now: Cameron McCulloch’s Short Zombie Film ‘Home’

Posted: 14 Oct 2011 02:00 PM PDT

The Australian short zombie film Home

Cameron McCulloch's short film Home is a striking tale of the everyday travails of an unnamed woman (Jamie McDowell) struggling to survive in the wake of a zombie outbreak and the consequences that her actions have on her soul.

You can watch the full short film here.

The entire story is told in stark imagery, without a single line of dialogue. It's a more effective adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic novel I Am Legend than the 2007 blockbuster with Will Smith, even though it's not really that at all. The story and tone of Home reminded me of the Matheson story for some reason [...]

Alexander Payne Hoping To Get Gene Hackman For ‘Nebraska’

Posted: 14 Oct 2011 01:00 PM PDT

While he may not have the pull of a bigger named director, Alexander Payne sure as hell will try to pull his weight to get one of the greatest actors around to jump back into the game.

Vulture is reporting that Payne is set to shoot his upcoming film, Nebraska, in black and white, but must cut his budget to $10 million, and find a big name to grab the lead role. Who does he have his eye on? Amongst a list including the likes of Jack Nicholson and Robert Duvall is the one and only Gene Hackman [...]

Sample John Williams’ Score For ‘The Adventures of Tintin’

Posted: 14 Oct 2011 12:00 PM PDT

Steven Spielberg's motion-capture animated spectacular The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn won't be released in theaters until around Christmas, but now you can listen to snippets of the music score by John Williams online at the German website Cinema Musica.

There will be 18 tracks in all on the U.S. release and the Cinema Musica article features brief cuts from each track. The score sounds absolutely wonderful, sprighty old school Williams adventure music with an airy European touch [...]

Watch Now: Fearnet Presents ‘Trick ‘r Treat: Making Friends’

Trick R Treat: Making Friends

Michael Dougherty's 2008 cult classic horror anthology Trick 'r Treat (which, I must confess, I still haven't seen yet) has finally been sequelized, sort of. To promote its upcoming Trick 'r Treat marathon, Fearnet commissioned a short from Dougherty called "Making Friends" for the occasion.

Must See: Awesome ‘True Blood’ Bloody Fountain In Romania

Posted: 14 Oct 2011 10:00 AM PDT

Romanian True Blood Fountain

Season 4 of HBO's hit vampire drama True Blood has come and gone here in the States, but over in Romania it's just getting started. And in celebration of the new season, a pretty insane marketing campaign has been put together.

Collider's Steve Weintraub happened to be in Romania when he came across the campaign, which is quite literally a massive bloody fountain you'd expect to see outside the Overlook Hotel, spurting streams of red high into the air.

Click on over to the other side to check out a video of the fountain, and head to the source link below for more images.

Can you imagine if someone tried this somewhere in America? An army of conservative soccer moms would collectively go into angry chicken mode and we'd all be doomed! [...]

When it comes to incomprehensible titles, we may have just found a new champion.

Originally known as Bop Decameron, director Woody Allen has shifted the title of his next film, a Rome-set picture starring Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, Alec Baldwin, Penelope Cruz, Roberto Benigni, Judy Davis, and Greta Gerwig. It'll now be known as, get this, Nero Fiddled [...]
