The Stand

Back in August we reported that Warner Bros. had signed Harry Potter writer-director team Steve Kloves and David Yates to work their magic on an epic adaptation of Stephen King's epic 1978 apocalyptic horror fantasy The Stand, which had previously been made into a television miniseries for ABC in 1994.

Top Picks From The ‘Superman/Batman’ Comic Book Series

Posted: 22 Oct 2011 04:28 PM PDT

Best of SuperBat

Superman/Batman was an interesting series. It was based off of the silver age team-ups in World's Finest and the desperate need for comics fans to see the two biggest superheroes fighting side by side.

Right now, there's a sale on the digital version of the series this weekend for only 99 cents each issue. Now, not every issue was that great, but for 99 cents a piece, who really cares? Well, you should. So, in the interest of fairness, I'm going to tell you a few of the storylines and issues that I enjoyed the most, because there are some absolute must-reads going on in this sale. And even when the sale ends, you're still going to want to check these issues out. There's a lot of them, so for you're benefit, try to get in on the sale, but if not, at least they're available digitally now! [...]

DVD Review: The Beaver [UK Edition]

The Beaver

The Beaver
UK Edition DVD
DVD | Blu-ray (U.S.)
Directed by Jodie Foster
Starring Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, Jennifer Lawrence, Anton Yelchin
Rating 12
Release date: October 10, 2011 (UK)

Let's be honest; The Beaver is an incredibly hard sell. It's about a man (Mel Gibson directed by Jodie Foster) who is so incredibly depressed that everything in his life – wife, kids, job – falls away and the only way he can cope is by communicating through a hand puppet in the shape of a wild animal. There is a worry that Jodie Foster's Beaver is unlikely to appeal to many. Add in a leading man whose most popular release in the last couple of years was courtesy of an answering machine and, well, it's likely to go down like a fart in the bath. But here goes [...]

Comic Review: Snake Eyes #6

Snake Eyes #6

Snake Eyes #6
Written by Chuck Dixon
Art by Casey Maloney
Inks by Juan Castro
Colors by Simon Gough, Romulo Fajardo, Jr.
Letters by Neil UyeTake
Covers by Robert Atkins, Agustin Padilla
IDW Publishing
Release Date: October 19, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99

What I really like about Snake Eyes #6 is that it showed a different side of the Cobra Civil War storyline. There's plenty of Joes and Cobras to go around, so it's nice to get a little glimpse on what the coolest member of the GI Joe team is up to while the rest of the team is scrambling to hold their own and the forces of Cobra are launching all out war on the Joes.

What I liked most about this issue was the constant action. In the whole book there's maybe one whole page of "talking heads" and that's it. And that's the way a Snake Eyes comic should be [...]

Digital Comics Deal: ‘Superman/Batman’ For 99 Cents Each

Posted: 22 Oct 2011 11:01 AM PDT

Out of all of the digital comics deals I've seen, this might just be the most impressive. And why is that? Well, every single issue of the 87-issue run is on sale for a mere 99 cents. Yes, that's right. Every. Single. Issue. [...]

Fox Ready To Bring ‘The Punisher’ To The Small Screen

Posted: 22 Oct 2011 06:48 AM PDT

The Punisher

The intimidating presence of Marvel Comics anti–hero Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher, is heading to the small screen...or so it would appear.

FOX has reached a deal on a put pilot agreement for a potential new Punisher series from Ed Bernero, who has previously created shows like Third Watch and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, and ABC Studios. The "put" pilot commitment means that Fox is contractually obligated to air the pilot episode, which also means that in all likelihood the network will make a full season order at some point. If something goes horribly wrong and they decide not to air the pilot, they would have to pay up on some penalties. [...]
