RELEASE DATE: October 21, 2011 (limited)

Everyone has those movies they have a certain kind of special attachment to—movies that moved them, that struck an emotional chord, and left a lasting imprint.

For me, one of those movies was 2006's Once, which tells the story of musician known only as "Guy" who works at his dad's vacuum repair shop and makes a little extra coin by singing his songs on the streets of Ireland, and the young Czech girl he meets one day (fittingly dubbed "Girl") who sells flowers and is also a musician. The two form a strong bond through their music and common troubles they have with former lovers, but, as they go on to collaborate on some incredible music together, each is unsure what it is they want in life and for their futures. Danny Huston is in talks to play the president who's last name plays the latter part of that title, and for the former, who better than Eric Bana? Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham-Carter Offered Roles In ‘Akira’

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 02:45 PM PDT

Akira

Despite being one of the more maligned remakes currently in production, you have to admit, the cast for the long-discussed remake of the beloved anime flick Akira maybe just got a whole lot interesting.

Twitch is reporting that the pair of Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham-Carter have been offered the roles of Colonel and Lady Miyako, respectively. The film will be helmed by Jaume Collet-Sera, and is currently being set up with Garret Hedlund in the film's lead role (or at least, as of the writing of this, he's in discussion for the role of Kaneda), so it does appear as though this is definitely on its way [...]

Deadline is reporting that WB has tapped Drew Pearce to pen a third film in the franchise, which is interesting, if only for the fact that Pearce is also the man behind the pen for the third film in the Iron Man franchise [...]

Book Review: ‘Nerd Do Well’ By Simon Pegg

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 07:20 AM PDT

Nerd Do Well

Nerd Do Well
A Small Boy's Journey to Becoming a Big Kid
Hardcover | Paperback | Kindle
By Simon Pegg
Gotham Books
Release date: June 09, 2011

Despite what you've been lead to believe, Nerd Do Well is not an autobiography. Except that it is, but it isn't... It's a crafty book disguise designed by Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek) as memoirs, within which he has been able to insert the true book: The Adventure of Suave Superhero Simon Pegg and his Amazing Robot Butler.

Yes, you read that accurately.

Stuffed very cleverly in between different chapters reviewing Pegg's life is this crafty, and hysterical, tale of him as a secret agent superhero, with an automaton sidekick that he would have you believe bears absolutely no resemblance to any robot sidekick ever used. Get that vision of C-3PO out of your head right now, because Canterbury (the robot) is, at Pegg's insistence, nothing like the Star Wars droid [...]
