$5 MP3 Album Deal: ‘Thor – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack’ Posted: 29 Oct 2011 05:23 AM PDT Each month Amazon offers 100 album downloads for $5 each at their MP3 store. Among the more notable titles released this month is the original music score for the Marvel Studios summer superhero spectacular Thor. Composed by veteran movie music man Patrick Doyle, the Thor soundtrack is an exciting and suitably bombastic score, which is very fitting given that the movie it accompanies is an epic tale of a universe-spanning conflict between warrior gods that has its roots in both Norse mythology and 1960's comic book storytelling. I wrote a review of the soundtrack back in May, which you can read here [...] |
Geek Gear: ‘Doctor Pooh’ Shirt Posted: 28 Oct 2011 10:10 PM PDT The $10 t-shirt deal of the day over at RIPT Apparel is a mash-up of Doctor Who and Winnie The Pooh called "Doctor Pooh" by artist cubik. The sale at RIPT began today, Saturday, October 29, 2011, at midnight CST, and will continue for 24 hours from then, and once it's over, it will not be sold on the site anymore [...] |
Watch Now: New ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’ Trailer Posted: 28 Oct 2011 07:48 PM PDT The lackluster box office grosses (not a flop, but not a good omen either) for the 2006 sequel Mission: Impossible III had the studio suits at Paramount questioning the future of the once-viable tentpole action franchise, but after more than five years the blockbuster movie series is back with Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. The second trailer for the movie has been released and you can watch it here below. The first trailer did what a good teaser should do: give us minimal exposition and lots of little glimpses of the whiz-bang action set pieces that bring in the crowds. [...] |
$5 MP3 Album Deal: ‘Rockin’ The Suburbs’ By Ben Folds Posted: 28 Oct 2011 05:30 PM PDT If you're a music geek who likes their mp3 downloads nice and legal, you should go check out the this month's sale over at Amazon's MP3 store where they have 100 albums on sale for $5 each from various genres and artists. Most of these albums have ten or more tracks, and with single MP3s going for at least 99 cents, this deal gives you way more tuneage for your buck. There are several excellent albums being offered for the rest of October, but my personal favorite of the bunch would have to be Rockin' The Suburbs by Ben Folds, again for only $5 [...] |
Steven Spielberg Discusses Criticism Of ‘Indiana Jones and The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull’ Posted: 28 Oct 2011 04:05 PM PDT The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, already in release in the U.K., filmmaker Steven Spielberg granted an interview with the British film monthly Empire for their December issue. In the interview Spielberg discussed the future of the Indiana Jones (George Lucas is still working on the story for the fifth movie) and Jurassic Park (Mark Protosevich is writing the screenplay) franchises. Then he turned his attention to address grievances fans of the Indiana Jones series had with the previous sequel, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. [...] |

‘Avenging Spider-Man’ Gets Free Digital Copy Codes Posted: 28 Oct 2011 12:25 PM PDT Marvel is constantly working on ways to further embrace the digital evolution of comics without freaking out retailers. Earlier this month at New York Comic-Con, The House of Ideas announced that the premiere issue of the new series Avenging Spider-Man will come with a code for a free digital copy of the comic. The overwhelming popularity of the program in pre-orders has now inspired Marvel to go ahead and offer the codes for the entire first arc of the series. This means that issues 1, 2, and 3 of the series will be polybagged with a code for a digital copy of the issue [...] |
DC Relaunch: A Marvel Fan’s Take On DC’s New 52 Posted: 28 Oct 2011 10:19 AM PDT Since I've been reading comics I've always leaned toward Marvel's more grounded real world approach to storytelling. That doesn't take anything from DC's more sci-fi approach; Marvel's books were just my preference. Marvel's characters seem of the era in which they are written and they live in real cities and deal with real issues, whereas DC's characters live in fictional cities and even though they go through real drama, it always felt like it happened through a generally less gritty existence. Hardcore DC fans may disagree with me and that's fine. After all, this discussion is from a Marvel fan's perspective and as a Marvel fan this has always been my perception of DC books. I have read some DC. I've always been a fan of Green Lantern, Action Comics, the Justice League and the grittiest book in DC's line up Batman [...] |
Charlie Sheen’s ‘Anger Management’ Finds A Home At FX Posted: 28 Oct 2011 09:02 AM PDT Now that his antics have appeared to have died down, Charlie Sheen has just gotten some damn good news. The FX Network has announced that they have picked up the rights to the actor's new TV sitcom, Anger Management. The show will be loosely based on the 2003 flick of the same name, and finds the controversial former Two and a Half Men star heading back into the TV game, and this time, with a load of intrigue behind him [...] |
$5 MP3 Album Deal: Rush ‘Spirit Of Radio: Greatest Hits (1974-1987)’ Posted: 28 Oct 2011 08:29 AM PDT Amazon is currently running a deal through the end of the month on MP3 albums in their 100 Albums for $5 Each sale. One of the $5 albums is Rush's Spirit Of Radio: Greatest Hits (1974-1987), which contains 16 of the band's most popular songs, like "Tom Sawyer," "The Spirit Of Radio," and "Limelight." Tim Burton’s ‘Dark Shadows’ Adds Alice Cooper To The Cast Posted: 28 Oct 2011 08:01 AM PDT After being on the receiving of some mighty bad buzz last month all has been quiet on the production front of Tim Burton's big-screen adaptation of the classic Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. But a recent development has temporarily shone the spotlight on the movie in the form of the recently-announced casting of Alice Cooper, the star of such films as Sextette, Monster Dog, Prince of Darkness, and Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (his performance as Freddy Krueger's stepfather had Oscar gold written all over it-damn you Jack Palance). Apparently when Cooper isn't acting he's indulging his secret passion for making music, something he has been doing for more than four decades. Who knew? [...] |
Scripts For ‘Independence Day 2 & 3′ Almost Complete; Fox Willing To Make Without Will Smith Posted: 28 Oct 2011 07:00 AM PDT Last time we heard about the discussed sequels to 1996's Independence Day, it was just whispers and not much was thought of the rumor at the time. Now it looks like the movies are much more likely to happen than was once thought. So much so that it's being reported that director Roland Emmerich and screenwriter Dean Devlin are finishing up work on scripts for Independence Day 2 and Independence Day 3, with hopes being that they will be completed by mid-December. The plan as it stands right now is for the movies to be filmed back-to-back, which is quickly becoming the preferred production method for two planned sequels. [...] |
