‘Electric Boogaloo: The Wild Untold Story of Canon Films’ Documents 80s Action Studio

Canon Logo

For a certain age group of young boys in particular the Canon Group shaped their expectations of action films. In the late 70s through the mid 80s they created action heroes (Chuck Norris, Jean Claude Van Damme) and pushed the boundaries of what could be done with a tiny budget. I always said the first superhero film I ever saw was Revenge of the Ninja. In that film ninjas climbed walls like Spider-Man, they had mind control powers, and better gadgets than Batman. Other similar classics include Missing in Action, The Delta Force, the Death Wish sequels, and Kickboxer. The Canon Group also dabbled in virtually every other genre of film too, including musical (Breakin' and Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo) and art house films [...]

Originally Released: September 10, 2011

As a rock fan and metalhead, it's hard for me to imagine in many ways that Pearl Jam is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. The time, in my mind's eye, has flown; but the more I think about it, the more I consider how much this band has been a part of my passion for music... something evidently experienced by other fans as portrayed in Pearl Jam Twenty.

When Pearl Jam was only just starting to achieve international recognition, I was entering my teens. Music was in a transitional period, as far as rock was concerned. In the background, you had your harder edged thrash bands (and up and coming death metal groups) there, consistent with their attack. In the forefront you had the glam and the rock of the 1980s - but not for long [...]

Rumor For Your Thoughts: Back-To-Back Seasons Of ‘Game Of Thrones’ To Cover ‘A Storm Of Swords’?

Posted: 02 Dec 2011 09:00 AM PST

Game of Thrones

While nothing is official yet, it looks like HBO is pondering possibly ordering not only season 3 of their hit series Game of Thrones, but a fourth season as well. And if they do, the plan will apparently be to film the two seasons back-to-back, which has become a popular option with movies.

The strategy would be attempted in order to best tackle book three in author George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, titled A Storm of Swords. [...]

Actor Jesse Eisenberg Sues Makers of ‘Camp Hell’ Over Misuse of His Image

Posted: 02 Dec 2011 07:12 AM PST

Camp Hell

DVD (or VHS) cover art that misrepresents how much screen time a very well-known actor or actress may or may not have had in the film being promoted is nothing new, especially to the longtime home entertainment media consumer. Some of the more low-rent distributors will do just about anything to ship copies of the crappy flicks that have sitting around in their warehouse collecting dust, even if it means engaging in blatant false advertising. Honestly, what do they care? If burning off every last shred of moral fiber in their being means they'll be able to move five more copies of some godawful public domain movie with video and audio quality that would be an epic overstatement to call sub-par off the shelves of Big Lots, then the only question they'll ask is, "Got a match?" [...]
